topic_getRelatedTopics images

The documentation shows that images should return an image_topic_relevance element, but they are returning an image_story_relevance instead. Which is correct, the documentation, or the data being returned?

Thanks

image_topic_relevance is returned when you call topic_getRelatedImages with a source_filter_id for licensed images.

topic_getRelatedTopics returns a set of image tags inside tag if there is a editorially selected image for the topic.
An tag is also returned if include_image is set to 1, and you have a source_filter_id giving you access to licensed images. I do see there is a score returned there, which is a bug.

If you can tell me what you are trying to implement, I might be able to help you with the right set of API calls and parameter values.

  • Hi Vineet,

The BeHeard.com account that I'm using has the necessary licensing for images and we are setting the including_image to 1. Everyday at 2am PT, we are retrieving a list of all the topics that are related to 'Politics', storing them in our system, and then later using those topics for other calls. The system is still in development, but will be using the images in the future.

I need to make sure that the data that we are receiving is correct, so that we can store the correct information in the database. Its a question of which is correct, the documentation, or the actual data? Once this coding is complete, we don't want to have to come back to this and refactor everything due to a correction in the data feed.

The documentation states that we should be receiving an image_topic_relevance element within the image element, but we are receiving an image_story_relevance element instead.

    Thanks,
    Bill

  • On another note, I forgot to report an issue with topic_getRelatedArticles when using a valid source_filter_id and setting include_image to 1. The image being returned within the article, also contains a copy of the base article, so we basically get the article twice. The image element probably shouldn't contain an article element at all.

  • Bill,

The documentation is correct - but for the topic_getRelatedImage call - you will get an image_topic_relevacne score inside the tag.

The tag returned inside the tag from topic_getRelatedTopics should not have that tag - and that is a bug. You should not store that relevance value in your database. We cannot give you a image_topic_confidence for each topic as it is a expensive operation for us to retrieve that for every topic. At this point, you will get the one latest image for the topic if available as part of the tag in topic_getRelatedTopics.

You can call topic_getRelatedImages with one topic_id, and you will get back image_topic_relevance scores per image there.

  • About the repeated within the - that is extraneous data being returned, which we hope to fix some day.

  • Vineet,

Are you saying that setting include_image to 1 in a topic_getRelatedTopics call, just returns the latest image that topic_getRelatedImage would return? And that it does not affect the <hero_image> element, which is always returned in a topic_getRelatedTopics call, correct? If so, we'll just turn off that setting as we do topic_getRelatedImage in other calls.

    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Yes, include_image=1 will return the first image that you will get with topic_getRelatedImages. It does not affect the at all. is always returned if there was one configured for a topic on our side here. Hero images are manually added to a topic, and we are continuously adding hero images to topics.

Sounds like you can use the if available from topic_getRelatedTopics response, or pick up the image for that topic from topic_getRelatedImages
