Pool crystal clear BUT dirt and insects appear in same areas just a day after cleaning.

Not sure whats going on here as the pool in general is looking great. Due to the fact that i have to clean nearly everyday thou. No problems with clarity just dirt constantly in the same places i wonder if filter is doing its job?

I initially thought i could work through it by pumping to waste until it clears, but it keeps appearing and im just wasting water.

If i clean through filter the pressure just builds and a have to backwash again after 1-2 attempts.

Sand filter is about 4 years old but as i say the water is clear appart from depositing aload of muck over 48 hours, i did wonder if the pool filter is just sending it all back out again?

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear your pool is giving you some trouble.  It sounds like there may be some adjustments needed to both the circulation and filtration system.

The circulation part is pretty easy to check.  First the pump should be running 24hrs per day ideally.  The pool returns should be aimed downward at a 45 degree angle.  This will create a convection current in the pool that will churn the water at the bottom towards the top.  This will also minimize dead spots (areas where the bugs and dirt settle).  You may also consider adding a device like the Circulator to your pool.  This will help to increase the movement of water in your pool significantly.  The device screws into most pool returns simply.

The filter may be more difficult to check.  If the dirt is either making its way through the filter OR is coming from the filter there could be some bigger issues.  I normally recommend that you get a service technician to take a look at it.  If there are cracks in the laterals or stand pipe, the sand will need to be removed to find that out.  These cracks could allow for filter sand and dirt to pass through the filter. Before getting a service technician to come, some things you can do are:

chemically clean the filter with Rapid Action Filter Cleanse

make sure the pressure goes down after a backwash.

consider a 10 minute backwash to really freshen up the filter and see if it makes a difference

If doing these doesn't solve the problem, then I'd suggest having a service technician come and inspect the system to find out why the dirt keeps coming back.

    I hope this helps!

  • Thanks for that. It seems odd that i also get the same particles when on recycle which i assume should by pass the filter completely. Could this be a gasket in the multi value!

    Thanks

Hi again.  When you say recycle, do you mean re-circulate?  If so, the water is not passing through the filter at all.  It goes in the filter head, by-passes the filter and comes out the return line.  This would be normal.

When it comes to the intricacies of whether a gasket is still in good working shape or not, I would have to defer back to the retailer.  They would be best suited to have someone take a look at it.

They would likely suggest cleaning the filter chemically if it hasn't been done recently.  This will clean out any dirt and debris that may be making the sand work inefficiently.  If after that the filter doesn't appear to be working quite right, then the next step is to have a physical inspection done. This would require a service technician from your retailer coming and removing the top of the filter, checking the gasket, the stand pipe, laterals (sand change required for this).

I hope this helps.  Let me know if I can assist further.
