Where can I get a good water testing kit (Canada) for my chlorine pool? Taylor kits are not available for a reasonable exchange rate.

We are getting a new vinyl pool liner and I think it's time to upgrade to a better system than the generic-results of Test Strips. Also, I've heard it's better to use a DPD based test rather than an OTO based test for chlorine as DPD gives you the level of each type of chlorine: Total, Free and Combined. We use Dazzle Pool products to treat our pool and it's usually pretty trouble-free, but our liner is badly bleached and I feel like our water gets "sticky" despite coming out "perfect" at the pool store.

Hi there!  There are many options for testing your pool water at home.  To provide a comprehensive list would be a tall task.  As you've seen, just Taylor alone provide a number of test kits.  By the way, Taylor test kits are available through most pool and hot tub professionals.  As you indicated, they are not inexpensive.  The selection may be limited but will cover what you need.

My best advice would be to determine what is most important to you.  The accuracy of the test or the cost.  As you can imagine, the more accurate the test becomes, the more it can cost.

Most retailers like to promote the test strip or OTO/phenol red drops.  These are both generally sufficient to provide an accurate reading of the chlorine level and the pH.  Testing for hardness, stabilizer etc, should be done in-store as the labs they use are much more accurate.  Changes in those levels are minimal and can be managed on a monthly basis.

I think if you speak to your local retailer, they could provide you with some options that will fit your budget and testing needs.

Let me know if I can help further.
