Installation and licensing

Installation - Is it imperative that SQL Server needs to be stopped during the installation process as this makes deployment slightly problematic within our 24/7 operating environment.

Additionally I am assuming that the licence agreement allow multiple installations on server connected to different Salesforce DBs’. I.e Server 1 pointed at Saleforce A DB , Server 2 pointed to Salesforce B DB.

Many thanks in advance, Paul

  • When the SQL Server process uses a linked server, it loads the DLL (i.e. DBAmp) into memory and never releases it. Therefore when you upgrade DBAmp, you need to restart SQL Server or else you will still be using the old version DLL that is still in memory.

If you have NEVER run DBAmp on the machine, the technically a SQL restart is not needed.

DBAmp is licensed per production salesforce org. You can install it on as many SQL Server instances as you like but you will need a license for each production salesforce instance you wish to access. Sandbox orgs of the production org are included in the license.

  • Bill, thanks so much for your response.

This will be a clean installation on the machine so technically we can mitigate a restart.

In regards to licensing the business does hold a licence however we are installing a new Salesforce org. DBAmp will be required for both orgs. So, if my understanding is correct a new licence (and the headaches requiring budgetary sign off) would be required? Initially we are running a pilot but believe the 30 days trial period would not suffice.

I am assuming that a call could be arranged to discuss licensing options etc?

    Thanks, Paul

  • Yes, you will need a license for the second org.

You can send me an email to support at forceamp.com and we can setup a call to discuss.
