The room between the structures is necessary for the AI survivors to move around in your compound. The barricades not being useful for anything but security rating has already been noted. In the future there may be a change to building placement, but I wouldn't count on it.

I do not agree with the tiles between structures are necessary. Survivors need not move the furniture behind and between them, since they do not effect repairs, do so only in appearance. Even when adding wear to the buildings requiring maintenance would be much more interesting for the player having to organize the provision of the same structures, so that survivors can access some of the faces of furniture. If not done correctly, the structure would suffer wear inreparable until you put in a sufficiently clear space.

id prefer it if you can place some thing right up against the wall and side by side certain objects (as long as it is not blocked by another object) since the AI has no problems navigating around structures as for barricades some people want them to link up i honestly don't care as long as u can get inside the warehouse

also grid marking on the ground to allow base management with certain trash on the ground to allow easy placement of structures (toggle option of course)

leaving space between the construction features is essential to PvP, so I hope it will remain as it is.
