Covert art issues (again)

I also have a stretched or cut covert art issue. I have read some topics on this forum, so I understand that DL3 is more sensitive to product dimensions than DL2. So I've taken a look at those dimensions, and they seem fine (even if I understand nothing to those non metric units).

Try to add Final Fantasy XIII-2 PS3 (standard edition) from Amazon France or even UK, and hopefully you will notice the problem. Lots of other PS3 games are correctly displayed in my library, and the dimensions are about the same.

By the way, if I modify those dimensions in the details window, absolutely nothing happens to the way the covert art is displayed. Even if I remove them completely nothing happens. If I replace "Jeu vidéo" (video game) by "Blu-ray" in Format, like it should probably be, still nothing... Same problem with a custom covert art with perfect dimensions, it's getting replaced, is wrongly displayed, and changing product dimensions still do nothing. Maybe something related to the French separator being a comma and not a dot? Hm... Probably not, as integer numbers don't work either.

  • Can you copy the dimensions of one of the games that is correct and paste them into the game that is incorrect to see if that fixes your problem. "Almost the same" in dimensions can make a big difference in display.

I already read that thread, thanks.

I already tried to change the product dimensions, and as stated in my first post, whatever I write in the "Product dimensions" has absolutely no effect in the way the cover art is actually displayed. No effect at all. Nothing.

The product dimensions of my Game of Thrones PS3 copy are exactly the same, and its cover is correctly displayed. Don't believe me? Ok, let's take a look :

("largeur" is width, "hauteur" height and "profondeur" depth)

As stated previously, I also downloaded a high quality cover art which has the perfect dimensions, perfect ratio, and had no better results.

  • Dang it. I just wrote a huge response, with pictures, and Safari ate it.

Ok, briefly for now: We try to guess where the actual cover art in the cover image is located, because Amazon adds all kind of rudimentary case art to their DVD cover images, and we need to crop that out. Our algorithm is just a heuristic and we will continue to improve it.

For DVDs and items with fixed-size cases, the specified dimensions do nothing, as you’ve found. The only factors we look at are the amount of white space around the image, its aspect ratio, and whether it has rounded corners (we use this to determine if we should crop out case graphics).

We no longer will stretch images from Amazon, only crop, which looks better for a lot of items, but (in your case, sorry) makes some worse. We’ll continue perfecting our heuristic.

  • Unfortunately, no change with the last update.

Do you need some help to find out some covers that need to be fixed?

  • Hi SteaG,

The picture sizes have a lot of factors that go into them. With the above, have you tried keeping the dimensions as is and changing the photo? Or deleting the dimensions all to 0 and adding a new picture to see if either helps.

In the meantime we know our dimensions need work and would welcome any more information you'd like to provide, as we correct the fix them up. Thanks!

    Hello,

Thank you for your message, but please read my previous messages to see that I already tried all these steps. As confirmed by William, my issue actually comes from the heuristic used by Delicious Library.

So, I just wanted to know if you need some other names of titles to add from Amazon, or not.

So please let me know if this issue is in your low priority list. If I can't expect a fix in one of the next releases, I will go back to version 2.

  • Hi SteaG,

The images we get from Amazon sometimes include the case, and sometimes do not. For example, the attached screenshot shows Amazon's image of a Blu-ray movie, including the case; the Final Fantasy XIII-2 PS3 game has the pure covers without cases. Since Delicious Library uses its own case models, we try to avoid adding the case twice. Amazon doesn't tell us whether the image includes the case, so we have to guess, and the way we guess is to measure the amount of white at the corners of the image to see if the image has rounded corners.

The Final Fantasy XIII-2 cover has an "eroded" effect on the front image, with enough white on enough corners (at least two) for our heuristic to decide the image probably includes the case, and so it crops the edges of the image.

Ideally the app would provide a way to override the standard behavior (and we'd like to add some general cover image tools). To get the cover drawing correctly right now, you can add a one-pixel-wide black border to the image (or even a single black pixel in the bottom left and bottom right corners), and drag that onto the item. I've attached the cover below with that modification.

    Hello,

William was already extremely clear about the reasons behind this function. I understand them very well, and I'm sure lots of your customers enjoy this automatic process.

You can suppose that I mostly use Delicious Library for my games collection, and you can guess that I'm not that satisfied by this function. FF13-2 isn't the only one to suffer from this issue, I have several others in my library. That's why I suggested a way to deactivate your automatic cropping. It would be a more elegant solution than drawing a borderline just because the software isn't smart enough.

Let's speak frankly, now : You don't have to please all your customers. Developers have their own priorities, and those don't always match mine. It's OK, maybe a little bit disappointing because I was a fan of the previous version, but I can understand. C'est la vie. That's why I ask once again if I can expect a fix about this specific issue in one of the very next releases or not. If not, please be honest, and let me know. In that case, I will go back to version 2.

    Thanks!
