Delicious Library's window doesn't stay the same size when re-launched

After quitting and re-opening Delicious Library 3, the window placement and size is not restored from the previous session. In other words, if I make the window big and centered, when I relaunch, it's small and off to the left of my screen.

  • Delicious Library 3 uses the "state restoration" technology Apple introduced in 10.7, which works quite well. However recently we noticed that sometime after 10.8, it's now disabled by default for new accounts. In System Preferences > General, make sure that "Close windows when quitting an application" isn't checked, and Delicious Library's windows will come back in the same state when re-launched.

  • It is great to support that technology but it is something that is an option for the end-user not something that should be assumed that everyone uses. So I am hoping that you guys will also support remembering window position etc without that option being turned on. I have only run into this with one another application and the developer promptly added the functionality back for users that don't want to use this OSX "feature".

It seems like no preference is remembered - far more than just window, size of shelfs etc

  • I unchecked the "Close windows ..." box, and the last window did come up with the last placement, size, and zoom level as you say. (However, I also prefer to have "Close windows ..." checked, e.g. so that my Safari browser always starts up on my specified home page, instead of the page I was last using.)

Anyway, my main DL3 concern, is that the bookshelf zoom level is only retained for the last DL3 window view open. If I go to different shelves, the zoom level is back at the default level. My last window before quitting retains the proper zoom, but no other shelf views do. That's rather frustrating. Would be possible for each shelf to retain its last zoom level; or at the very least, for all the shelves to use the value of the last zoom level used for the shelf you were looking at when you Quit DL3? I use the shelf feature a lot (like for "Travel Books", "Art Books", "Science Books", etc.), and it's frustrating to have to reset the bookshelf zoom level every time I look at a different shelf. Note that the zoom levels of different shelves are retained within a session, it's when I Quit and then run DL3 again that the zoom level of only the last open window is retained.

  • I’m a little bit disappointed
I find it quite interesting, that most of the applications I use, don`t have this problem. And for one to have to change a general setting in System Preferences just for one application to work like the most others without this setting I find a little bit disturbing.

Other Applications with a similar logic with a database and one main window, all of them work without changing the setting in System Preferences as advised from Jonathon. They all show their main window on the same position with the same size and same settings on what is shown:

    - Delicious Library 2 [only window position doesn't seem to be saved]
    - iTunes (Apple)
    - Calendar (Apple)
    - Adress Book (Apple)
    - Mail (Apple)
    - Reminders (Apple)
    - Adobe Applications
    - etc.

I find it quite amusing (NOT), that the new version of Delicious Library doesn't use the same (in my opinion) logical kind of behavior as the last one. Which is used by most applications.

And DL3 doesn't even save the state of visibility of the columns left and right. Quite disappointing.

I don't consider this topic as solved!

    Greetings from Germany,
    Matthias B.

  • This really make no sense to use for a single window application like DL.

The "Close windows when quitting an application" is more for document windows, not primary application windows it seems. I have that checked because I don't want my apps opening the last document I was working on 99% of the time.

DL should behave, as Matthias B. mentions — just like iTunes, Calendar, Address Book, etc. work.

What it does now makes no sense at all for an application that does not have document windows.

Apple should definitely distinguish between documents and application windows for their setting, but they obviously work around it for the apps mentioned above — or they just don't use it, because it's not appropriate for those apps.

  • Update: This has been fixed in 3.0.2 so if you have not installed that already please do. It should solve the problem.

  • This behavior seems broken again, at least for me in version 3.1.2 on 10.8.4. It makes no difference whether or not "Close windows when quitting an application" is checked or unchecked, the app always reopens the main window to the same, seemingly default, window size and position.
