Wish List

especially with DL becoming a mobile app, or just the DL iphone web options, it would be nice to be able to store in a wish-list library things that you want to buy. I'm always forgetting titles I wanted to buy and DL seems particularly well suited to have that info with then a simple PURCHASED button to move it over into the real library section.

This is a very common feature request. Our idea is to make a feature that syncs with your Amazon wish list, but unfortunately it's something that will probably have to wait until Version 3. Still, you're being heard.

The idea of a link to an Amazon wishlist is very poor. Not everybody has and wants an Amazon wishlist, and think of the consumers out of USA.

I agree with Erio. I'm not interested in linking my information with an outside company. I just want to create a wish-list that i can publish for my magnanimous friends.

    Thank you.
    • Wish list would be useful, a portable version to use while shopping is a must, I've tried generating PDFs but they are Giant (graphics don't downsample or something) but what I'd also like, (maybe one bullet can hit all of these) is for my friends to see what movies are in my collection and vice versa. Deliciweb made an 86meg folder which exceeds my ISP limit. Can it work with iChat?
    • they announced a free iPhone widget version of Delicious Library at MacWorld...so soon you will be able to take your library with you (requiring an iPhone of course). nothing yet on wishlists though.

Great idea, I would love to be able to sync with my Amazon wishlists (UK and US) at *my* choice. SImilarly for other wishlists such as CD connection, SACD.net

Great idea. I don't care if DL uses Amazon to pull the data from (as it currently does), but I have no desire to 'sync' a wish list up there. Amazon's not likely to have all the gadgets I want anyway.

I've only been using DL for about 2 hours but am pretty impressed so far.

Is there any sort of 'wish list' feature where I can input books I'm looking for (for example, i have books 3 and 4 of a series and have been trying to find 1 and 2), and then when I am at the bookstore, I can have that as a reference? Or even, if it's a book that's not published yet (like the next book in a series) I can have it in there and when it's published, I'd receive a notification of that?

I know I could just write it down, but it would be cool to be able to have that all in one place with all my books!

  • I created a "wish list" shelf the first day I tested the program on my new Macbook. I "cheated" by placing the "private" box next to the "purchase date" in my scrolling information set-up and using it to confirm ownership of the item listed. My smart shelf displays items where "private" and "played/read" are both "No". A second smart shelf shows items where "private" (owned) is "Yes" and "played/read" is "No"; these are books I have purchased but have not yet had time to read. The only thing that would have been easier would have been if there were a true "Now Own" box so I wouldn't have needed to "cheat". I tried to do something with "purchase date" as blank first, but the logic functions wouldn't sort for "date equals none". This should be added to the smart functions imo.

l.j.desjardins.nl Has a perfect solution(for now). Thanks! Seriously, it can't be that hard to add an info field called 'wishlist', or just let us create custom fields, can it? Besides creating a field called 'WishList' for us to sort by, if you just had a feature to import it straight into the wishlist, it would be perfect. Worry about the fancy Amazon syncing thing later, but what kept me on the fence forever was the fact that I couldn't make any kind of wishlist that I could store on my BlackBerry, or email to people who wanted to know what books I wanted...

  • When you are in the list view, if you right-click, you can choose which columns to have appear, then you can drag them from side to side to put them in the order you want. I only used 'private', since I don't add unread books to my library, so I didn't need to add the 'purchase date' field myself...

Is there any way to add products to a Wish List in DL?

Also, does the library access databases like Allmusic.com or something similar?

How to divide all stuff (in all categories) into 2 subcategories: "Owned" and "Wishlist"? I would like to be able to see or print out a list of respectively all items that I own or wish to acquire or want to read in the future.

    Smart Shelves are the answer.

If you own it, put your name in the "Owner" field. If you don't own it enter "wanted" or "wishlist" (or leave blank). Then create a smart shelf for items of a given category (ex: book) where field "Owner" does not equal "your name" (or where the field equals what you have put in for wishlist. Each Smart shelf can be selected for printing independent of the others or of the full library.

If you don't want to create a smart shelf and you just want to do a quick onscreen check of your listing, select View and display your library in Scrolling Information format, click the little hammer symbol on the upper right and select "Owner" to add this column to the onscreen view. Then click on the heading "Owner" and DL will sort all items by the entry in this field.

You can also use a Smart Shelf or Scrolling View sort using the "played/read" check box to keep track of things you have acquired but have not yet read or viewed. I now review this regularly as I have a tendency to buy books I want as soon as I see them and then put them aside for later reading, only to buy a second copy a month later if I forget that I already have it in my "to read" bookcase.

    Hope this helps.

  • I’m looking forward to this.
I logged in to actually put this idea up myself. :)

I currently use Amazon's wish list feature to keep track of books that haven't been published yet that I want to read. I periodically go through all my authors and search amazon by pub. date to see what is coming up. (if only DL could make THAT easier!) I add those to my wish list. Then, every month I go to my wishlist and purchase the books that have, or are going to be, published that month.

So it's not so much a wishlist as a future shopping list, but it's the only way I have figured out to keep track of upcoming new releases of my favorite authors (and as I am in Australia, most of my favs aren't ever available here).

I have had the same idea for a long time. I use Delicious Library to keep track of all the books I read and rate them. This way, I can always look back and see what I read and what I thought of it. Without this, I used to go to the library or book store and forget if I had read something before, especially if it had been a long time! I would love this feature, because I would store a list of books that I want to read in the future. Now I have to use Stickies as a way to do it, rather than incorporate it right into my Delicious Library. Great Great Idea!!!!

  • I’m happy
I was thinking that it might be nice if there was a "wishlist" shelf. A place where we could add stuff that we wanted and as we collect them, move them into our normal library. Plus, we could publish this list so that people could see what were wanted or needed and they could use it for birthdays and christmas ideas.

  • I’m frustrated
A hugely missing feature in DL is a wish list. I mean I have switched to bookpedia because of the lack of wish list in DL. I can't keep a list of my future purchases, or books that I want but not for now, or that I want to borrow from the library (all would go in my wish list).
I think it is not so "difficult" to add that function (a list of books that are not part of the main library) but I am not coding so I can't judge the difficulty of implementing that really.

So that's my thoughts on DL, I hope the developers give it some consideration !
I am sure LOTS of other users are waiting for such a feature too !!

  • Current Work-Around: I've gained a new Friend.
    First Name: Wish
    Last Name: List

iCal reminder, if it is present can be used to re-evaluate wish list items and decide if I want them.
Bonus: they appear translucent on the shelves, easily differentiated

I have a Smart Shelf for "Ours" so I can look up our property without seeing borrowed and Wish List (empty Owner field) items.

  • Hi,

I'm back using DL2 after a long time.
I've seen some post here with some improvements i would like in the futur.

    - DropBox/cloud sync : e.g. Ability to choose where to store the DB instead of the default location.

    - Images size in shelf : All the book of the same kind (e.g., pocket, comics,... ) must have the same size on the shelf
I know that books don't have the same size and the "Size property" can give us the actual size of the book so we don't need to see the real difference on the shelf.

As a friend suggest to me : he want to see the difference but setting it as an option is fine.

    - iTunes cover : Apple do what they want with iTunes and you will (as us) have to suffire with that BUT as much i want my iTunes in DL, i want my albums/movies/etc.. covers without doing anything.

    - Publish : I want a preference tab to set who i am and the options to link it to my adress book record.

    - iDevice sync : But as i've read in the forums, you're kind of aware about that. :)

    - Mass Editing : Ability to select multiple items (of the same kind of course) and editing them in a single move like in iTunes. (e.g., owner, buying date)

    - Localisation : Abilty to choose the interface language.

  • Mass editing is do-able now. I usually view my Library as List instead of Covers with extra columns added to my display. When adding new items I sort by item Creation Date, a detail which can only be seen when you add it as a column in List mode. (Or use Purchase Date since the program uses creation date as purchase date.) This way I can click on the first and right click on the last item added to highlight them all and select the Owner field under Details in the side panel to fill in my name once for all.

I use other methods, like shelves/smart shelves or the Title/Person field to focus in on authors, etc so I can use the same right click bulk selection to do things like standardize the way an author or artist name was shown in Amazon. Also use it to add Series to my books, etc. Play around with your Library in List mode... you will find lots of ways to maximize your productivity and flexibility.

    • I would have bought DL V1 if there was more local (Australia in my case) support. I've d/l'ed both version, drooled at the beauty, ease and usefulness UNTIL less than 10% of scans scored a hit!

Surely it can't be too hard to link to more than 6 barcode databases! Again, with localisation, the local DB will be scanned first and in my case with ~90% hits only then need to scan the others.

  • The ability to run a web library rental system off it... Right now the loaning etc. is localized to your machine... but if somehow it could be integrated with some sort of syncing system online... it could run as an online library lending system... where other people can see your collection and also what has been loaned...

Woulod love to add functionality to the iPhone app. I liked it to be able to store barcode or multiple information then sync them back to my iMac. I have hundreds of DVDs and books from my Mom's home that I want to be able to scan with my iPhone. And since it is a hassle to also bring my iMac along for the trip. I hope this will be put under consideration or a workaround.

I was looking for software that does what DL does, but also has iOS apps available to view if not edit the library, and of course allow the library to be synced across all devices or at least let the user choose where to store it (DropBox, but iCloud would be better). I can't believe DL has been around for as long as it has but still doesn't have those abilities.
