I've just upgraded to DL3 and I am surprised to see that references to the shelf that an item is on have been removed from the detail list and the list view. In DL2 when I find an item by browsing the Library I have columns showing Shelf and Location so I can find it. If I search for an item in DL2 I can see in the details which Shelf and Location (within the shelf) contains the item.
In DL3 I don't seem to be able to add the Shelf as a column in the list view, and the Shelf is now missing from the "where" section of the item details.
Am I missing something or is it really no longer possible to identify the shelf that an item is located on?

Hi All,
Sorry about this, the "Shelf" option was accidentally deleted and wont be out for the next update but hopefully will be in the next one. For now you can enter the Shelf location in the Notes perhaps?

Not currently, it may be a feature that has not been reimplemented yet, one among many

Would also be good to have the Shelf as a criteria for filtering other shelves. For example, I'd like to have a set of shelves that are mutually exclusive, and then an "unclassified" shelf in that set to show me which items have not already been placed on one of these shelves. Makes sense, right? But Shelf is not one of the filtering criteria?

One of the Delicious 2 features I love is the ability to select or search a book in my library. The context menu would let me see in which shelf I had placed the book. Delicious 3 does not have such a feature, which I think sucks.
I checked the Help in the website and on the app, and looked for an alternative workaround in the application and found nothing similar.

Delicious 2 allows me to search and view on which shelf I have a book. Delicious 3 doesn't. What's wrong?. -

Would it be possible to get an official comment on this issue?
Will this DL2 feature be reintroduced into DL3?
If so roughly how long will it be before the update restoring this feature will be released?
Thanks. -

Perhaps I am missing the objective of this discussion by suggesting this, but why not use the 'Location' option instead of shelf? I know this approach will not meet Andrew Simard's needs, but it certainly works for me in this way: I have books in specific locations around my house. I allocate a name and/or number to each shelf in each bookcase, and include the that in the DL record for each book. If the book moves, I try and update the 'Location' with the new place. Hope this helps.

It really doesn't help. I'm a visual person and I just want to drag a new book to a shelf. Then, I want to see where it is without going into the details screen which for me is a depressingly complicated and mostly irrelevant mess of information.

In DL Shelf can be different than a physical Location. Smart shelves can sort by many criteria, for example an item may be on one Shelf because of its Genre and simultaneously be on another Shelf because of the Creator. The added advantage of DL2's Shelf field is that it was a "Smart" field that automatically identified which DL Shelf contained the item, and could indicate multiple Shelves at the same time.

As a programmer, I can't believe it is taking this long simply to add the Book's shelf to the book's detail view. That is simply something that is not at all difficult to do.

One of the main reasons I use Delicious Library is to find out WHERE a book is--is it in my studio and if so which bin, or is it in the classroom or is it on my livingroom shelves or in my "poetry room." Please advise when the "show on shelf" will be available in DL 3. Without this functionality, Delicious Library is not very useful for me. Thank you.

Hi !
We just downloaded DL3, excited about the new version. BUT what is that ???
It's nice to change the wood type of the shelf but what's the use if I cannot locate which shelf my book is on ?
We used DL2 to know in which moving box (we have more than 50 boxes with books...) our books were until we figure out where to put them in our new place but without that feature, we cannot change the books from one box to another...
The app is useless for us at this stage.
Very very angry about that.
When will this feature be back ????- view 1 more comment

Hi Allison,
I'm afraid this is not helpful at all ! This app was meant to save me some time, not spend my whole vacation time typing in the n° of the box the book in in.. I have 685 books !! And I'm not talking about the DVDs and CDs. The whole point was to be able to know instantly where the books were and change them easily from one shelf to another. We will revert to DL2 unless you can give us a date when this key functionality will be back in the app.
It's unbelievable that such an important and fundamental feature simply disappeared from one version to another !!! When will it be back ?? -

We've added this for the next update. I can not give you the specific date for when that will be released but it will most likely be soon.

Hullo: I'd like to chime-in on this, and additionally ask for some advice to make sure I'm not missing some functionality that is already there and I'm not finding.
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IN MY LIBRARY VIEW: I have hundreds of items in my library in various locations. I made a number of "shelves" and dragged the item that was in the library to the shelf. ALL I WANT IS TO BE ABLE TO QUICKLY SEARCH FOR A TITLE AND IF IT IS IN MY LIBRARY TO HAVE ITS LOCATION SHOWN TO ME IN THE SAME VIEW. If I have gone to the effort to enter the location I feel having that item's location shown to me should be automatically available--like next to the title, or super-imposed on the item, or something similar. I don't want to have to go through an entire workflow to FIND THE ITEM AND ITS LOCATION. I pretty well know what I have, but want to know where it is.
Thanks in advance anybody and everybody who can give me some help with this.

Actually, I think I just found what I needed. In Library, selected list view, then went to column view icon on far-right, selected it and went down list to "Where" and checked "shelves." This added the shelves column to the list view in the main library where I performed the action. Now, if you want the location to appear in the same view on a particular shelf the action must be repeated for that shelf. I can see doing this to confirm that the item is in that specific location. THAT'S REALLY ALL I WANTED, AND EITHER IT WAS THERE OR IT HAS BEEN PUT IN SINCE ALLISON'S POST 10 DAYS AGO. And even though I think my idea of having it super-imposed on the cover would be "sweet," it is not really a big deal to select the cover, click the list view and then your item is highlighted along with its' location. And FINDING an item through the search bar is easy as it shows your library items that currently exist first, and when you select the item you're looking for it has the location next to it (in list view). So, THANK YOU, whoever you are and wherever you may be.

The automatically generated "Shelves" list in Details was just added back to DL3 in the August 14th release (v.3.1.2), as promised.
