How do I include iTunes ebooks?

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere. Is it possible to include ebooks currently in my iTunes library in Delicious Library? Subscribing to iTunes doesn't automatically add items in this category (which seems odd).

Maybe this is a feature to add in the future if it isn't implemented already?

  • Delicious Library can't currently read iBooks out of iTunes. We access the database using the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file they write, but iTunes doesn't write any data about books into there (despite the introduction of iBooks over a year ago and numerous updates since). They're aware of our desire for them to share this information with other apps. Sorry.

  • My iTunes eBook data enow shows up in the iTunes-DL3 link (but sadly not in DL2). There are a few problems however. The Music albums and eBooks are all mixed together - it would be nice if DL3 broke them into separate shelves within the iTunes section (like DL2 did for Movies vs Music). I have added a new Type > Creator > Release Date sort for my iTunes shelf which at least groups them together but I would like the option to "physically"/visually separate them so I can have a by type count instead of a global count of all my iTunes.

  • As with your main library in DL3, the icons at the bottom left do the same thing, kind of. That's one of the differences between the versions. But you're right in that you have to click on the icon to get the count...it is not available in the sidebar for either library.

A bigger concern is that the iTunes library in DL3 will not include all books in your iTunes collection. What Jon states above is still true today...any book in iTunes with an extension of ".ibooks" doesn't show up in the DL3 library, making it an incomplete reference source. Especially regarding books... a library should consist of all your books regardless of format.

  • All mine ebooks are in epub format, so I never noticed that those in Apple's
proprietary iBook format (IBA) generated with the iBooks Author tool are not shown.
