Delicious Library 2 seems to crash my computer which is now running Mavericks. Is this the expected result. Is there a fix. I really don't want to "update" to Delicious Library 3.
Once DL2 is open the whole system simple stops responding. No cursor movement, no clock.

Same issue for me ! The app does not open AND crashes my mac...

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I'm not even able to force quit. I have to manually power down the entire system.

any response yet ?

I'm running DL2 on a MacBook Pro Mid 2010 and on an iMac Late 2012. On MacBook Pro DL2 is running pretty well. On iMac DL2 crashes the system so i have to power down the system.
Starting DL2 on iMac with an empty library is running. So I've tried to backup the library on MacBook an restore it on iMac without any result. Even copy the container from MacBook to iMac doesn't work.
Only thing that works is to scan all books, cds, games and movies again. But there are a lot of added informations in each of my media.
Nice to see it isn't a specific problem of DL2. DL3 seems to have the same problem. Saved me much money for upgrading to DL3.-
The computer I was talking about is my MacBook Pro, and DL2 freezes it on opening.

DL3 works fine on my MBPro (early '11) and on my brand new iMac, both running Mavericks. But DL2 freezes my iMac but the MBPro is fine. I've tried deleting the DL2 container, preferences, reinstalled from App Store, etc. but no luck. As soon as I restore the library from a backup, the whole system freezes
-
-
Here is how I've gotten DL2 to work again. First I deleted the Container and the preference file. I also deleted the app and reinstalled it from the Mac store, but I don't think that was necessary. When I opened DL2 I created a new, empty library. I resized the window to make it a little larger. Then I quite the app (superstitious behavior) and started it again. Now I restored my library from a backup. I found that if I then resize the window and try to scroll the app freezes the whole system. But if after restoring I resize the window a small amount and then quite (before it freezes!) I can relaunch DL2 and use it normally. I still have been cautious about resizing the window and then scrolling. Meanwhile through all of this the console goes wild with many errors from DL2 (sandbox violations, read-only permission problems, and invalid graphic row numbers), all of which suggest that DL2 is pretty fragile running under Mavericks and if you use it long enough something dramatic (not good) will happen. Time for the programming team to get busy!
-
-
-
-
bwaah the freeze got me too, wanted to scan in my library again as I lost my backup now it freezes my MBP every time. Reinstall did not help. I will not use DL3 it is monstrous. Please get this going again!

Hi All,
I'm really sorry you're frusturated and I promise we're working on this.
We have had quite a few customers experience strange behavior under Mavericks and have reported it to Apple. We’re technically not allowed to talk on behalf of Apple but they said they have two known graphics driver bugs in Mavericks, but we believe one has already been fixed and will be in the next update, and we’re in the process of investigating a second one. Hopefully we can get this issue resolved soon, unfortunately in the meantime usability may be diminished or nonexistent. I’m really sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for sticking with us.

Apparently, Allison Schentrup no longer works for DM, but she answered your question here about a year ago: https://getsatisfaction.com/delicious...
If you paid for DL2 and DL3, you should be entitled to download and use both without paying again. Please contact the customer services department of whichever store took your payments and they will assist you further with that. If you have purchased from the App Store and cannot download another copy, be aware that they can refund your original purchase so you can buy it again without being out of pocket.
Hope this helps. If you want anything else, though, please observe forum etiquette by starting a new thread more relevant to your specific issue, as you're more likely to attract users who can help you. -

Thanks. Will do. I am so forum illiterate... This was very helpful!

Thanks Allison
Please let us know when things are working normally. That would be very helpful. I'll stick with you, if there is a light at the end of the tunnel, or I know someone is boring through to make the tunnel. -

Same here. DL2 goes "boom" (and not in a good way) as soon as it launches under 10.9.
Hope Apple (together with the gifted folks at Delicious Monster Software) can work things out. -
-
Same here. New iMac with pristine, freshly installed Mavericks system. Yoo open DL2 and the system freezes up. I can add that it only freezes Finder, including keyboard, mouse, and graphics. However, the rest of the system continuous running behind it. I can connect to it from another Mac, Time Machine keeps running, etc.
On my MacBook Pro (mid 2009) running Mavericks everything is fine. -
-
-
-
So, we've hard nothing for three weeks. Has Delicious Monster simply walked away from this problem?
-

All right, I took the plunge and installed DL3 (trial version, not sure when it's going to stop working). The reasons why I didn't want to upgrade at first are the rather bad reviews in the iTunes Stores (US, UK, DE), and because there was no upgrade offer. I really did not see a reason why I should fork out the full $25 without any new killer feature in DL3 while I being quite happy with DL2.
But, as DL2 stopped working under Mavericks and there seems to be no reaction from the developers, I gave DL3 a shot.
And indeed, it's not worth it.
- Just in the first hour I had two crashes, which backs up the reviews saying that it's not stable yet.
[Edit after one day: No crashes since my first encounter, so far DL3 behaved nicely after the initial hiccups.]
- The import from DL2 worked well, but there is at least one critical bug. I abuse the "Purchase Date" field to enter the date I've watched the movie last, and all these dates are off, moved one day into the past in DL3 all dates.
Even worse, the same bug affects the "Theatrical Debut". Since this field requires a full date including day and month, I always entered e.g. 01/01/2003. All these days are a day in the past too, effectively moving all dates into the wrong year 31/12/2002!
- The new search is an utter pain. It doesn't filter but instead shows the search hits in a list, which also shows the search results at Amazon - for which I have no use at all but cannot disable it. In order to get to the item you searched for you need to click on it, but I haven't found a way of filtering the library.
- The details of an item are no longer in a fixed sidebar within the main window, but float in an extra window above it. This may be nice on a smallish MacBook screen, but is just annoying on an iMac.
- You don't have the sub-libraries "Books", "Movies", etc. in the left pane anymore, only the "Library". To get to the sub-libraries you have to click on “Library” and then in the bottom bar on “Books”, “Movies”, etc. Just a click more, but a click every time I want to get to my movies.
Supposedly, this was done to make room for the new lists “Recommended” and “Wishlist”, for which I don’t really have any use, but that’s just me.
If I did buy DL3, I would create smart shelves just to get the old sub-libraries back with a single click.
- The loans section became worse. I didn’t like the forced Address Book-connection in DL2 (sometimes I had to add a work colleague to my address book just to note a loan down in DL), but now also viewing the loaned items became worse. You don’t see the items in list view anymore, just in a side pane, which seems a bit odd with the huge free space of the main shelf area.
A nice feature of this section though is the “Return” button, so you don’t have to delete the item anymore, which always felt odd.
- The “Title” and “Director” fields have been fused to the “Title and Director” column. Not sure why; due to this you cannot switch off the director in list view. Luckily, you can still sort according to “Title” only.
If I sort for the whole field, then I cannot tell what it’s sorting for. The list seems to be almost random.
- The "bookshelf zoom" used to be in the bottom right corner of the screen, right at hand if you needed it. Now it's been moved into the View-menu.
- The "Chart View" is a nice gimmick, but doesn't have any value on a daily basis, i.e. it's not a feature I need and for which I'd upgrade. I was surprised to see that my collection had a value of over $25,000. Until I remembered that I reassigned the "Current Value" field to contain the IMDB rating at the time I created the record.
*sigh* That fleeting moment of wealth...
- The preferences used to be quite sparse in DL2, but now there aren’t any preferences at all anymore! I actually cannot think of any other app that does not have any adjustable preferences. The search alone would need a tickbox to disable the automatic Amazon-search.
+ Speed-wise I’m happy though. But I’m on a late-2013 iMac with DL3; don't know how it performs on an older machine.
+ The fake-plastic reflection in the bookshelf view was removed, which really improves the look of the shelf view. The "spiced-up" look of the window, the shelves, and their surroundings is nice, but not a striking feature that was required.
= The old 'label' field has been renamed to 'studio'. Neither good nor bad, I just mention it for sake of completeness.
So these are my findings after about an hour with DL3. Currently, I’d really rather see DL2 getting fixed than switch to DL3.
I would have to pay $25 again for getting a less stable app with new features I don’t need, and functions that are not as nice as in the previous version. If any developers are reading this, please regard it as constructive feedback. I *am* happy to pay again for a new version, but currently I'd be stepping back. :-(
@Previous posters: I can recommend installing DL3 to see for yourself if my opinions above hold true for you too. Please post your own reviews here then. -

It makes you wonder about the morality and ethics of DM, who seem to be happy to keep selling this product when they KNOW it is fatally faulty.
-
Their only a tiny company who have been working on fixing the soft wear. They have been on the forums ensuring us that they are on it. Their costumer support is great for such a small team. Give them time. Plus I feel it's hard to remove something from the App Store just for a bug that is with the operating system effecting the softwear that works fine on older OSs. What about people still on Mountin Lion? Should they not be able to buy the product because it doesn't work an another OS. Ok they might want to put a message in their description but maybe you should slip them an email suggesting such instead of accusing them of have horrible "morality"
-
-
Give them time? What do you mean? It takes only seconds to withdraw a product temporarily or to issue a warning to potential buyers. And that is what they should do, in my opinion. It's unethical not to do it. They are showing that business morality is at a low ebb.

Over the past days, I've regularly updated my post above. I'm not sure if you guys (i.e. the previous posters) get notified for updates, hence I add this as a new entry.
Today I found a bug that really annoys me and due to which I would never buy DL3 until it's fixed.
The dates for "Theatrical Debut" and "Purchase Date" are all a day in the past in the imported DL3 database. As I always entered the debut date as January 1st of the respective year, the dates are now all a year too early! The entries can hardly be corrected by an update - there's no telling which entries were imported incorrectly or added in DL3-, therefore I'll have to re-import my old database anew once a DL3 bugfix was available.
Does anybody else have this problem? Please check and post it here, maybe it just went unnoticed until now.
This is a really huge no-no for DL2 users and an upgrade to DL3.
I rest my my case.-
Yes I have been getting these notifications as I subscribe for DL2. I'm just wondering why you don't create a new thread for the DL3 bugs/design issues. Like cool thanks for letting us know that DL3 crashes as well under mavericks seeming that that was in the OP's question and I myself have questioned the upgrade. However you seemed to list disign flaws as well. Sure if you don't like them you have all the right to voice your opinion. But there are other threads that discuss the design of DL3.
-
-
My first posting was just about the crash. When I then summarised all the things I came across while trying DL3 I again posted here because I reckoned that the other posters of this thread would be most interested in a summary of this sort – i.e. a list of things that a fellow ex-DL2 user doesn't like about DL3. I would not necessarily reach them if I had posted in other threads. I've updated the posting several times and it's grown well beyond its anticipated size...
But point taken, I'll look for other threads to post just the design flaws and, more importantly, the date import bug to. Luckily, I mirrored all changes I did in the DL3 library in the DL2 library on my old MacBook, so no harm done.
I really hope that the DL2 start-up bug gets fixed quickly. In my desperation I've had a look at the competition such as Collectorz and Librarian Pro, but honestly, they all don't even come close to Delicious Library. I'll keep my fingers crossed for DL2 – or the fix of at least the date import bug in DL3. -

I have the same issue : my computer freezes on opening DL2.
-
-
Well it has been a month now and still not fixed
However on advice from others on the forum, as long as I view in list view mode my computer doesn't freeze.
Although yesterday there seemed to be some sort of update, but I couldn't upgrade as my computer froze every time I tried .
Lost all hope that DL2 will ever work again .
I have over 1600 books scanned which is annoying to say the least .Pitty as I was always bragging to my friends about how great DL2 was and when I showed people they were very impressed .
Don't want to view my books in list form ,might as well just have it on an excel spreadsheet -

I’m
appalled that Delicious Monster are not warning people that DL2 doesn't reliably work on Mavericks. It's not like they don't know by now! How unprofessional.
1I contacted iTunes Support, who spoke to Apple's technical people, and I've been told Apple is *not* working on the DL2 system freeze issue or anything related to fixing it.
Why was this product not tested on Mavericks when it was still in beta?
Why isn't there a comment on the iTunes store warning people not to upgrade to Mavericks?
Delicious Monster needs to go away and learn about proper testing, and how to warn users about potential problems on a "per operating system" basis if they cannot guarantee success on all platforms (and after two months, they are in no doubt that it's not working for a significant number of us). This is all basic stuff a script kiddie would be able to pick up within the first week of learning how to code.
Unfortunately, I am outside the 120 days required to get a refund from iTunes or a chargeback on my debit card. I've been living without DL for so long now that I actually don't care about using it anymore.
I think DM is being very arrogant about all of this. Personally, I would not be surprised if they've coded DL badly and have been caught out by Apple closing a loophole they previously hacked to work.-
So DM are liars as well as cheats.
-
-
That's not the impression I get. Most developers assume we've written good code and it's always a really nasty shock when something turns up that we didn't expect (let alone discovering a stunning bug that freezes the entire environment! ;oP). Looking in at DM from the outside, it seems to me that they were suffering from a nasty case of "perhaps it will be fixed tomorrow". I think they were just a bit naive about how long it would take to fix (particularly if they were leaving Apple to work on it!), and probably didn't consider how some users would feel about the fact that non-working software was still being sold during this time.
I'm pleased DM stopped simply saying it's Apple's fault over and over like a broken record, and sorted out a (temporary?) solution on their own - after all, they should take full ownership of any issues arising from their own software! The fact that they have rolled back and got things working for some users makes me feel happier - even if they don't have 100% success, at least we know they are working on it instead of trying to shift everyone's frustration in Apple's direction.
I would like DM more if they had kept their own blog up to date, though - even now, we are still largely in the dark about what is going on or what will happen next. ...You can't put a big, friendly front on your company as a marketing gimmick and then retreat into your quiet little shell when things go wrong. Instead of providing first-hand information about what is going on, DM seems happy with the fact that people completely unconnected with them are left to disseminate important information. B very kindly came onto this forum to let us know that there was an update we could download, but it should have been the DM company rep, Allison Schentrup (who last posted here a month ago), who came back to tell us what was happening. With all respect to Allison, she raised our expectations when she posted here; she should not have done that if she was never going to follow up again.
So, in short, I think DM probably means well, but they've royally screwed this up. Still, everyone who's still around will probably forget all this in a month or so. -

I just installed the 10.9.1 upgrade - DL2 now freezes even faster! And now requires a hard reboot to recover. So I have over 500 DVDs in the library books, CDs, and software that I'm starting to rebuild in excel.
-
Walt, if you've recently exported a DL2 report in Excel format, you will at least have a decent-size list of most (if not all) of your items to work from. I used one of these to import into a freeware alternative for my books that I'm very happy with. Hope this helps.
-
-
I appreciate the suggestion, but my system now freezes so fast I can't even try changing to list view to export a list. I am starting from square one.
-
-
-
-
-
Still does not work for me either. Though moving to list view has "solved" the issue (or rather is a workaround)
-
-
"And now requires a hard reboot to recover."
Thats how it is on my syytem as well. You don ́t need to rebuilt on an excel list, there is a program out there that imports the DL2 database. You will need to buy one part for the books, cds and dvds though.
I have switched to this program a few days ago, as Delicious left us in the lurch here - although I liked DL2 better.
@Delicious: its been a month now. What is the issue ? Why are we not getting any updates ? Are you walking away from this issue ??? -
-
I’m
indifferent, because I'm using something else now, but here's some constructive feedback to encourage DM to be more proactive in taking care of its users when things go wrong.
To Delicious Monster,
For what it's worth, here's some constructive feedback I hope you might find useful in case a problem should present itself again in the future...
* If you find a bug, and it's a nasty one, proactively warn your users about it. Many of your users are probably not that experienced and/or don't care to learn how their Macs work. If they open DL2 and it crashes their system, expect them to do the same a few more times before the penny starts to drop. This will probably affect the way they feel about you and your software.
* If you can't fix the bug immediately, pull the software from the marketplace. You would not typically walk into a showroom and pay for a brand new car that does not work on the understanding that it might one day.
* If your software doesn't adhere to the specifications listed on the iTunes store, change one or the other.
* If your software causes an entire system freeze, you might want to think about how you can help those users who have windows set to automatically open at startup and don't know how to reboot in safe mode. Also, if a user has lots of data files open in different applications, and then decides to open a piece of software that forces a hard reboot, they may not realise the "lost" data may be recoverable. Help them.
* If it appears that users are reporting ways they can open the software and use it while you are working on a permanent fix, see if they work. If any of them do, report the information to everyone, with warnings if necessary. In this case, perhaps you could have provided a plist that forces DL2 to open in list mode with the proviso that users install it at their own risk?
* Don't act all friendly on forums like this one by asking for feedback and thanking us so much for our help, and then not reciprocating by keeping us informed. Even if there's nothing to report, we want regular updates so we know you haven't decided to cut and run.
* Don't blame a third party when your software doesn't work, even if it really is their fault. It makes you look unprofessional.
* It's widely considered to be easier and more cost effective to retain a customer than to attract a new one. Don't do anything to upset the existing customer base. In this case, many of us wouldn't upgrade to DL3 because we don't like it, but it would have been classy of you to offer a discount code to existing DL2 users as an apology anyway.
Well, there's a few ideas for starters. Perhaps others would like to comment if they think of anything else to add? Please don't take it the wrong way - this is simply a bunch of thoughts that would have made me feel happier and less likely to jump ship, so I hope it helps. -
-

DM released a beta (v2.8.5) Monday. Notification went out via Twitter, along with a note that they had moved the development back to Mac OS X 10.6.
I was able to install the beta on my late-2012 iMac running 10.9.1 successfully and have started it several times since then. It's currently running in while I type this.
Plus, it still syncs with the iPhone app. Although I did have to re-pair the app with my library.-
Pathetic,
(a) that they chose Twitter to notify, rather than this forum, and
(b) that they simply indicate that the new release is there for download, without providing any sort of statement that they tried it out under Mavericks, and it works. Once again, they are using US as guinea pigs. -
-
-
-
-
B,
Thanks for the reply. Can you let me know how to get the beta? I'd love to give it a try. -
-
B, thanks for the update. I've been watching their blog for news, because that's what they were telling their users to do. Unless I've missed something, nothing's been added to the DM blog since the 9th, so it seems you actually had to ignore their instructions and follow them on Twitter instead.
We had an employee post on this thread a month ago, so they know it exists, and yet no official update here either.
I just downloaded from:
http://delicious-monster.com/download...
It works on my system, so 10 out of 10 to DM for getting it working at last, but minus several thousand for the lack of customer service. -
-
Thanks, Shoe for posting the link.
Not sure how DM is going to distribute this update for the non-App Store folks. Certainly needs to be some sort of communication out. Even with 3 folks, I would have thought they'd put out the word about the beta version. -
-
I have a 1 year old iMac and have had Del 2 and used it fine until now. Mine also crashes the whole system and I can't do anything but turn off the computer. I don't know if 3 fixes it but I didn't have any interest in the advantages of 3 so I would rather not upgrade so will wait for the fix. Thanks support team. Mark Ahlquist

I downloaded DL 2.8.5 (v99999,v2.8.5) today and it opened without crashing. All my books (all 1,687 of them) check in and 355 movies.
Thank you.
I am now feeling happier. -
-
New version is OK !
It took some time...thank you anyway !!! -

I have a mid-2012 MPB running Mavericks 10.9.1 and new version of DL2 doesn't work for me. It just stops responding every time I try to open it. I have downloaded trial version of DL3 to see if it would work and it works fine. It even imported my library from DL2 automatically.
I am reluctant to pay for this though because it seems like I am being charged again having paid for DL2, It feels like I am being extorted for a newer version I don't want.- view 1 more comment

I'm not sure because I have since uninstalled DL2, I have a trial version of DL3 but I'm not keen on it so I think I'm gonna give up on the Delicious Library Endeavour. From memory I think it was version 2.8.1 though.
-
-
Just download DL 2.8.5 (v99999,v2.8.5) from the Delicious Monster website, that version works fine.
This whole thread is about pre-2.8.5 versions crashing under Mavericks, but after a mere two months the bug got fixed... :-/ -

DL 3 (very latest version) and mavericks on an iMac is just a bitter adventure : everything getting extremely slow, system freezing, zebra colouring display, crashes, and so on.
Moreover, I can't get any longer my library on my iPad.
With the most recent update, it even seems to be worse. I had to restart my iMac twice and finally gave up working with DL.
So disapointed. -
-
I just downloaded latest version of DL2 from here http://delicious-monster.com/get/ and over wrote the current installation and all works perfectly now. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.1(13B42) on a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro Retina with NVIDIA GT 650M graphics
-
-
I had not used Delicious Library 2.8.1 since upgrading to Mavericks in mid December 2013. But I tried to use it yesterday and it asked for access to my calendar and contacts. After that it displayed a message about updating metadata and appeared to lock up my computer (MacBook Pro purchased in 6/13 running 10.9.1). I had to physically power it down. I ran disk utility to repair permissions in case they were messed up by DL during that fiasco. Now any time I try to start up DL it completely locks up my computer.
-
See the thread above. Please download DL 2.8.5 (v99999,v2.8.5) from the Delicious Monster website, this version works fine.
-
-
Just downloaded 2.8.5 from the link in the note above mine. This latest 2.x version of DL seems to be working for me now and I didn't lose the 700+ items in my library thank goodness. Now I'm happy.

Add me to the list of surprised Mavericks upgraders! I thought I was being prudent waiting for 10.9.1, and hadn't used DL2 for awhile but wanted to add a couple of books. But 2.8.1 locked up my 2013 MB Pro 15" (2.7 GHz i7, 16GB RAM) so hard only a hard power-off would release it. Problem is, even holding the Shift key during start wouldn't prevent apps from reopening. So I was stuck in a cycle of freezing when DL2 would try to reopen. Grrr.
Fortunately, I was able to research the issue using my iPad (found this thread) and have a bootable disk handy that allowed me to boot up and download DL 2.8.5 and overwrite the older version. So far it seems to be working fine.
But seriously poor development and testing with Mavericks. I use a lot of tech, I get it, new versions of any software or OS can cause issues. But completely crashing the machine seems like something that would crop up in proper beta-testing, no? Was any testing done with Mavericks whatsoever?
I will certainly not be getting DL 3. -
-
Just found this. How do I get out of this hard reboot loop I'm in please. Opened DL2 for the first time since buying a new imac with Mavericks and now I can't use it at all because it is crashing before I can quit DL2.
I used to recommend this software to everyone I knew with a Mac, thanks for wrecking my computer.-
Reboot in "Safe Mode": when you press the power button to start your Mac, hold down the "shift" key. Don't forget to reboot in normal mode when you're done so you have access to everything. Hope this helps.

DL2 completely freezes my Mavericks 10.9.1 MacBook Pro also.
Update: Downloaded version 2.8.5 (v99999,v2.8.5): Problem solved!
Thanks! -
-
Yes, Douwe, but which version of DL2? When I started this thread, there was no DL 2.8.5, and now there is. It seems to have stopped the freezing.
Is anyone having issues with DL 2.8.5 and Mavericks? If not then congratulate the developers for fixing the problem! -
-
The version of DL2 that froze my Mavericks was DL 2.8.3 (I guess, because I already deleted this version)
-
-
I currently have Mavericks OS 10.9.2 on a MacBook Pro bought the fall of 2012. I recently had a screen problem and went to the Apple store in Spokane, WA. They sent it out and I got it back at no cost except for the content. They did a complete reinstall. Unfortunately, my TimeMachine Backup failed me and I lost all my content including my DL2 library.
I contacted the folks at DL and Kim worked with me. I had the old DL1 library still on my PowerBook and over the last four weeks, Kim spent a lot of time working with me and finally got it working fine under DL2.
Considering there are only three of them I was surprised and pleased to get the help that they provided caused by a problem that was no fault of theirs. That is the kind of company we should be proud to be a part of and to promote and support. There are so few out there that have this kind of committment to their subscribers for a product that no other company comes even close to providing.
If you don't like it stop using it. Otherwise be civil and patient with these folks and they will do their best to fix your problem.
Thanks Kim!! -

My library has disappeared in DL2 on my MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9.3. Where is my back up? What is the name of the back up file?

This thread isn't relevant anymore, so please start a new one for a new issue - you're more likely to get help. :o) Hopefully, you've been backing up your system with something like Time Machine. If not, or if you don't know what to do with it, I suggest you contact DM directly for technical support via their website. Good luck.
