Playing complete CDs on iTunes from within DL.

If I enable iTunes then I can view a CD in DL etc and it also has a small 'play' icon in the artwork. However that is only one track. So is there anyway for the whole CD to be played from DL?

  • In DL3, the URL field for iTunes albums always seems to be the location of a single file, in the cases that I tried, the first track always.

I went back to DL2, and the same limitation is seen although DL2 doe not show the URL of the file.

This used to work, which makes me think that this might just be an issue with iTunes 11 due to the extensive redesign.

Are you on iTunes 11 or an earlier version?

  • I'm on iTunes 10 (too much about iTunes 11 (especially the user interface) that I don't like).

I am also on Snow Leopard and DL2.

You say that it used to work. Is that by referencing back to a playlist i iTunes as I can't see how otherwise it might work. As far as I recall, when you import a CD into iTunes, it goes in as separate tracks and you still have to create a playlist in order to play the whole CD. Looking at the iTunes Library.xml file, each track has it's own number followed by all the other data such as composer and URL location of the actual audio. A playlist is comprised of a list of these individual track numbers.

That's a whole new level of complexity as far as DL was concerned, surely?

As an aside, I'd love the bookshelf view of DL on my iPod Touch but only if on clicking an album it would play the whole CD.
    • It used to work, the caveat i suppose was the last time I tested that functionality, I think I was still on Tiger and iTunes was somewhere around version 7.

What used to happen as far as I remember, was that iTunes would play the song, and then the next song if the whole album was explicitly selected to play (using the tick boxes) next to the song titles.

Thats no longer seems to be the case and I have no idea when that changed.
    • So it linked to iTunes and played a file? Interesting, Ihad no idea that could happen....but you did say it would play CDs which confused me, I thought you had a CD Jukebox or a Sonos system or the like connected to your Mac, and that's how it worked....Anyway, interesting!
