Restore Library from published site?
My hard drive crashed on my iMac, and I've lost my Delicious Library backup. However, I did publish my library to a website. Now that I've fixed the hard drive is there any way to restore my library from the website?

In Delicious Library, choose File > New Shelf. Click the 'Friend' tab, and then 'New Person'. Make up a name, and click 'Add'.
Pull down the "Load library from" menu, choose Enter URL, and put in the address of the published site. (Apologies: There is a bug that prevents Cmd-V from pasting, but you can control-click and paste from that menu.) Click 'OK', then 'Add'.
If the URL is correct, the items should load in. Select them all, and option-drag them to the 'LIBRARY' heading in the source list on the left. Holding option copies the items to your library (instead of borrowing them).
Unfortunately you'll have to manually re-create any shelves, but all your items should come back.
Once you're finished, you can remove the temporary friend shelf from Delicious Library, and the contact from Address Book.

My situation is very similar. In my case, I have a backup but I excluded the area for the library back up and never did one. If I can restore from the published data file, then is there a way to have the library stored in a more conventional location like documents?

I lost my HD and all files on it. I do have it as a webpage but how do I get the catalog back on the Mac.

Link you posted doesn't seem to be working. Get an error message:
HTTP/1.1 404 Object Not Found-
the full url is : http://www.vacanzaitalia.co.uk/delici...

Your library at http://www.vacanzaitalia.co.uk/delici... is unverifiable, which means one of two things IME
1) your web host is blocking a particular file from being seen
2) the particular file is not there (deleted)
The "particular" files that DL2 uses to see published libraries are:
/DeliciousLibrary2Dump.deliciousShare
/DeliciousLibrary2ControlFile.deliciousShareControl
I'd check to see if those two files are present.
If they are, then 1) is happening and can be fixed
If they are not then 2) has happened and there is no way to get back your library. -

thanks Stu for prompt reply
I have done a quick searchlight and have found both "particular" files and both are dated last sept which is promising. however i dont know how to stop the page being "unverifiable" - can you help? or is there another way of using these files to restore my DL? -

It looks like the server you are hosting on is Windows based (correct?) and that means that IIS needs to be configured to allow certain MIME types for these files.
heres an MS document on how to add MIME types to IIS (in this instance for IIS6, but this may not be your version, if at all)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prod...
The MIME types in question are .deliciousShare and deliciousShareControl as text/html
you should be able to then see these files in your browser http://www.vacanzaitalia.co.uk/delici...
http://www.vacanzaitalia.co.uk/delici...
Once they are visible, then your library should be verifiable and you should be able to follow the original answer.
Another way to get your stuff in is to get all the files form your web server, then host them in Apache locally on your Mac. The article http://gsfn.us/t/31cu7 linked above has a short entry (see Dales Goins starred answer and my follow up) -

i went for option 2 - as 1 seemed a bit complicated and i had already read dale Goins post and ...
it worked!
i am gong to have re-shelve stuff but i have my library back
so thank you very much - most helpful and successful
just off to read a book! -
-
forget that - gets even better, didnt have to re-shelve - they all went to their correct place, and then -
selected all - and went for - refresh details from amazon - and it did all that as well
if only all programmes (and support) were as good!
fantastic - thanks again -
-
Great fix. Dales local upload worked a treat.
Thanks -
-
Trying this with DL 3 and it won't let me option-drag to Library after making a friend.
-
you can successfully see their library though?
