Scan directly to a Shelf
Please add back the capability to scan directly to a bookshelf. I was going to have a mad scanning weekend, but once I realized that I had to manually move every scanned item, I decided to wait until this feature is added back. Please do so soon....please....

I’m
done.
I've already added this to 2.1... a free upgrade due... soon-ish.

Would this be something that could be handled by doing a smart shelf instead?

Yeah, I'm trying to sit down and import my library, and I'm being thwarted by exactly this. I want to lock new additions to a shelf. Be they by scanning, or lookup.

Seph, until 2.1 comes out, here's my recommendation: make a Smart Shelf with the criteria "Date Entered" "is greater than" and then today. Then, everything you scan will go directly here, from which you can manually move them in a batch to the specific shelf you want. Not the most elegant method, but it should help yo accomplish your goal as you scan in.
This also doubles as a jury-rigged "Recently Added" shelf, FYI. -

Seph/Hutson, rather than create a smart shelf I just view the main Library sorted by "Creation Date", so all the items you enter during a session appear together at the top (or bottom). Then, as Hutson says, it's easy to use extended selection to move them to a shelf or set all of their Location fields to the desired value with a single operation.
William, if you're looking for experienced beta testers for 2.1... :-) -

Hutson: I don't see a way to use a dynamic "today" and redefining it with today's date is cumbersome.
Greg L: Yeah, that's what I ended up settling on. Not perfect, but it works for now. -

The lack of relative dates (Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday, etc) is a total pain, I agree, and I have put in a feature request for that myself. This is just a workaround (within a workaround for scanning to a shelf) that I use for situations similar to this. I actually don't like re-sorting my library (for no good reason other than I sometimes forget to put it back), so this works better for me. The real answer is, of course, A) I'd love relative dates, B) I'd love to be able to scan to a shelf, and C) I'd love the "Recently Added" shelf to return.

I'm trying to find where this is located in 2.2. I have multiple locations (home and work) where I want to track books...) Can't see it in Preferences, or anywhere else. If I select the Shelf I want, and do a Barcode import, it works OK. A manual input causes the default library to be selected, and the Shelf I was in is de-selected...

Indeed this is true in 2.2:
A manual input causes the default library to be selected, and the Shelf I was in is de-selected...
I have many old books without barcodes, and this is has been a showstopper for me -- and it took me a while to realize it was happening.
I will not be purchasing a license until this gets addressed. -
