  • I now use the Print option and click on PDF to select "Add PDF to iTunes". (I think this has been added in a recent upgrade?) I create 3 Smart Shelves: one for Type=Books which I sort by Author+Title, one for Type=Album sorted by Artist+Title and one for Movies sorted by Title only. I select the Smart Shelves one by one and create a PDF for each renaming the PDFs in iTunes to differentiate them. As long as you pre-sort before "printing" you can easily scroll through your PDF to find what you want (except for those Books by multiple authors which will be listed by the first one, or for Albums by Various Artists).

I use the "Two Columns" format (last one shown) because it is the larger font makes it easiest to view in iBooks on an iPod or iPhone and it has the advantage of having a thumbnail of the cover. For viewing on an iPad the "Pocket Reference" could also work; it is a smaller size file with smaller font and no covers. (The "Tiny" pocket format may make a good compact paper option but it is too small to view in iBooks since one cannot change the font on PDFs in iBooks.)

This option does require that you re-create a new download or PDF when you make any significant changes since there is no active link to DL. An active iOS version of DL that links to your main version disappeared over a year ago and will not be coming back any time soon.

That is a work around for non-native app. We are looking for an app for the iphone that links to the database you have created on your Mac. I love DL but will use another app/program to get this feature.

  • Unfortunately, there isn't a DL solution to what you are looking for. The "800 pound gorilla", namely Amazon, has squelched an iOS app that does what you want. At one point DL2 had one, but it has disappeared from the app landscape. Sorry. Would like to hear if you discover another app with the solution to your problem.
