So it was working one day and the next time you turned it on, this happened? Was there a power surge? Turn it off. Turn it on. What color is the power button light? Is it flashing? Is there a beep code? Like 3 beeps pause 3 beeps.

It worked in the morning and later afternoon when I turned it on, it started to beep. When I am pressing the Power button on, I hear the fan starting ( like normal ), a little bit accelerated for 1-2 seconds, the button is lighting Blue, and I starts to beep, 6 times at even intervals, than pause and again 6 times, etc. On the screen appears for a moment " Autodetect signal" then remains black.

6 beeps means a video card failure. Contact Dell Support. Tell them that you have the 6 beeps. They will setup service to replace the video card.

USA Technical Support (Chat, Email, and Phone)
http://support.dell.com/support/topic...

They will need the following information -
Name, address, phone, email address
Service Tag number and/or Order number
Issue
Troubleshooting done

Two beeps = memory failure. Power off, open the case cover and reseat all memory. Power on. If still no go, try the memory 1 stick at a time.

Wow! This completely worked. I was ready to throw the damn thing out of the window this morning as it kept bleeping at me. But instead I followed your advice, took the side off, pressed gently down on the memory a couple of times, switched on and hey presto! Working like a dream. Took me three minutes... I thank you and my sanity thanks you.

So how do you open case cover and reseat memory? Is this safe to attempt if you don't know what you are doing?

I have no beeps, when I push the power button the power button is yellow, but the other light on the bottom of the computer is blue. No changes were made and I didn't have a power surge, and if I did, I doubt it got to the computer as it is on 2 power strips. Mine is a Dell Inspiron 531.
