  • When you add the music file to Composer through iTunes, go into the audio editor in the Effects menu, and designate it as "music", so that any other effects like speech or sound effects won't conflict with it.

Then in the workbench, select the Cover by navigating to it in the page drawer at the bottom, then in the middle area, touch anywhere in the gray area and it will select the entire page. Then go into the effects menu, and add a behavior where the IF trigger is "Page Did Appear" and the THEN effect is "Play audio instantly" with the target object being your music file. It should start playing immediately whenever the Cover has loaded in Preview mode.

  • Is there a way to make the music play throughout the book (over multiple pages?)

  • Klas,
If your music soundtrack begins when the cover page appears, in other words if you create a behavior on the cover page where the "IF" condition is "Page Did Appear" and the target is "Cover" page, and the "THEN" effect is "Play Audio Instantly" then the music will start and continue to play until either a) the music track ends or b) another audio track of the same type on the same channel interrupts it.

The way to solve the first problem is to have your audio soundtrack file itself be quite long, long enough to play well past the normal duration of reading the book, OR, to have it loop (add a behavior with the trigger being "audio ends" and the effect being "play audio instantly"). The solution to the second problem is to go into the audio editor and designate the soundtrack file as "Music" and give it a unique track number, so that nothing else will ever play on that track. With nothing interrupting it, the audio should play throughout the whole book.

You might want to consider lowering the volume of the audio or creating an audio file where the audio is in the -30db range, so that it does not dominate if you have narration or other effects. A person can always lower the iPad volume, but if you have narration or other sound effects, you might want to include a control allowing the user to "Mute Music" if they don't want to hear the soundtrack.

The main things to remember about audio are that any audio file will play until either the track ends, or another audio file of the same type on the same track interrupts it. The key is to assign different categories to your sound files to keep them from bumping into each other: Speech, Effects, Music, and the numerous available audio tracks.

One other thing, if you make a very long audio file, and you are creating an audio effect, and you "preview" the audio effect in the behavior editor, it will play and continue to play until the audio ends, and this can be bothersome while you are editing your book. I didn't realize this and ended up having to shut off my iPad when several files began playing and wouldn't stop. It's possible this is a bug and has been fixed.

  • Awesome. Did'nt understand I could add functions to the actual page. Clears things up a bit, to say the least.

  • Yes, when you create a behavior, every trigger has a target, and that target can be an individual image or audio object, or it can be the page itself. To select the whole page instead of just something on it, sometimes you can touch in the gray area off the page and then the page will be selected, then you can build behaviors that use the page as the IF target object.

"Page Did Appear" and "Page Will Appear" are very similar; both are triggers that use the page as a target, but one starts *after* the page turn animation and one starts as soon as the page turn animation begins or as soon as the page shows up. If the target is the cover, the effect will happen as soon as the preview starts if you have the cover selected when you touch the preview button.

This solved some problems i had finding triggers for the music, as well as playig the music and other animations itself.
