  • hey there. i'm trying to follow the instructions above but in my book, in the detail section, there are no gears. selecting the gears when they are on the page - under "my books" - brings up only the dropbox option which does not appear to be working no matter how many times i try to export my project. the only other info. in this section is the program's credit information.

  • hey again. so the first post i wrote still remains true - is there a difference in the app if i'm using the ipad 1 or 2? i've tried backing up my book again to dropbox to no avail. my itunes back ups seem wildly disparate in the amt. of MB. also, the documents that say they're saved -- i'm still unable to open. i'm apprehensive about continuing my build when i can't safely save or see my saves that might be saving....please help!!!! i'm on a tight deadline and would LOVE to get this sorted out so i can sleep at night.

    The post is Composer 1
In 1.1 its the book icon next to the undo and redo buttons
in Pro its the long button with the book title on it

iTunes suffers from the great Apple problem of not knowing how big a file is. So if you "Save to" and then look at it, it will magically have grown a lot. That being said there is a know issue with Composer 1.1 where large books ( so far seen with 200-389MB books ) the exporter crashes and doesn't export the book properly. This is fixed in Composer Pro and Composer 1.2

Define open the file, when you bring it back into Composer it doesn't work?

  • Hi Deborah sorry that is OLD functionality that we need to flag as such. We removed the Backup info from Settings (the iPad does auto saving). When you log into a dropbox account, Composer creates a folder in Dropbox named "Demibooks Composer Books". When you then Export a book from Composer, that's the location where the book's .DCB file gets saved. Subsequently you can Import from Composer - and you will get a list of all books in the Demibooks Composer Books folder.

You can't "open" a DCB on your computer as you need Composer to read it. Thus we have the Import/Export functions.

Hope this helps - and we need to scan old posts and figure out how to flag them as obsolete. Hopefully this isn't in the user guide still!

  • Hey Dan and Rafiq:

How can I tell how big my book is? I am unable to export to Dropbox - it keeps crashing.
Composer Pro isn't out yet so that isn't going to be a fix for me right now and Composer 1.2 - can I get that somewhere?

The size of the book is all of your assets zipped + 150KB probably for your book. Both Pro and 1.2 are not out yet, Its been in review for a long time. If we did send you a copy by bringing you into our Beta program it wouldn't work as it would be a separate app on your device. If you send me an email at dan at demibooks com I will give you the steps so we can extract the raw data from the app and build a dcb from there.

  • I lost my book when I updated the iPad. I saved the book in dropbox but how do I retrieve it without and import button. I only see an export button on Composer Pro.
Please help. It was six months of work.
    • Tammy, sorry to hear about this.  There is no Import in Composer Pro in order to comply with Apples Rules and Regs. Did you make an iCloud or iTunes Backup of your iPad before updating to iOS 8? If you restore to the back up all of the books should be restored.

Also if you use the Backup feature from Composer Pro, you can restore the DCB. I am not sure if iOS 8 upgrades are somehow interfering with that. Of course if you didn't do this backup this won't help now. Import is available in Composer Studio. We will be in touch directly to help you out. Please send us the link to your dropbox folder, as long as the DCB is there you have not lost the work.

      Thanks
