Is it possible to import videos into a book or embed YouTube videos?
Are you able to have videos play on a page in a book or if there is an internet connection have an embed of a YouTube video play in a book?

Hi Tim,
Not yet, though this is something that testers have requested. The developers will have to respond as to whether or not it is in the plans for future builds.

Hi Tim and Anna, yes it's definitely in our near term plans! We'll be able to share some sense of timing for v2 in the coming weeks. Books in time for Christmas with videos would be nice....

I would really like this feature - I am a teacher of the deaf and would love to make my own books in which each page also has an American Sign Language (ASL) video playing in it--bilingual books that are easy to make!! AMAZING!

Hi Adam,
My partner and i are wanting to add a video of ASL of our book as well. Neither of us have experience with this, and I would love to know if there are any standards we need to follow, (like location of the video on the page, for example). Would you be willing to share your knowledge with us? -

1Trust me, this is a feature I've been salivating about for months; it's one of the main reason I chose to get involved with Composer since I am by profession a video producer. I'm currently creating instructional videos about Composer which you can find on the Demibooks.com website. I think they will add support for .mp4 videos soon. The iPad currently doesn't like .mov files; you have to convert videos to .mp4 before it will play them. I have been converting my videos to .mp4, then creating a special folder in my Photos folder on my Mac, then setting that as a watch folder to sync to in my iPad settings. This gets my videos into the iPad in my Photos folder. From there, right now I can import them into Keynote for iPad or Pages for iPad projects, but even though you can import Photos from your Camera Roll into Composer, you cannot currently import those video mp4 files.
My advice is to get proficient with Composer and build your books with Photos from the Camera roll or an image file that you can use as a proxy and then your book will be ready to go except for the video files. Please contact me if you have any questions about video on the iPad, I'd be glad to help answer your questions; this is one of the main reasons I bought an iPad to begin with. -

Hi there. I'm keen to use Composer to build an interactive learning tool. Can i 'link out' of the app to a web page or web app to allow for implementation of answers, scoring or other learning integration? What is currently possible.
I know I can link through to appstore but that's all I've managed to see on other's apps. Great platform and looking forward to working more on it.
Thanks

Hi
@1Tim Street Add movies yes, Embed Youtube videos no.
@John Bustard Link out as in open a web page in Safari is something we are looking at doing. Or do you mean something else? -
-
Thanks Dan,
I would like to be able to add movies (which format - .m4v or other)
Also - linking to safari browser from within the app would be great. I know it's feasable to jump to the app store but wondered on the likely time frame for safari and movies implementation - it's critical to whether we can use the platform for this current project. Thanks so much for your prompt and speedy reply! -

The Version 2 which was hoped to be out before christmas will it support video as previously suggested? I'm a little confused as the thread had earlier intimated video in version 2 pre crimbo. Thanks and apologies for continual questioning on this. Just need to clarify

Video will be in the next release, it will be video files like mp4s.
Video as in Youtube videos will not, we are looking for a way to do it in V3. -

Will full page video be possible? Is there a file size or resolution limitation?
-
-
The input frame size of the video will be limited to 640x480( limitation set by Apple ). But that can be stretched to full screen on a page, and you can enable it to do the standard iOS behaviour of expand into the fullscreen mode with fullscreen controls on a pinch gesture, like in Safari or other applications that use video on the iPad. File size is limited by the fact an app for iOS can not be bigger than 2GB. I have tested it with 400MB movie files and it runs fine.

I too am interested in using your product when you are able to have html links that open safari. When will this feature be out? When is version 2?

Hey Guys, i had a question, I have a .mov file which i try to add to the page in a movie "element'
i sync it with itunes and the video file is available on my ipad, however when i inspect the movie element and try to add the file there is nothing that shows up in the file picker. Am i doing something wrong?
Here is some info about the video file
Kind: Quick Time Movie
Size: 1Mb
Dimensions: 320 x 240
Codecs: MPEG-4 Video, AAC
Audio channels: 2
Total bit rate: 412
Thanks!-
Sorry this slipped though.
Did you put the movie where all the other files for composer are? Or have you put it in the iPad's Movies section? -
