Playing a sound file when an object is touched

Just like the book about the aardvark, I like to be able to touch an object and have it say a sound (or audio text file). However, the if/then and the options seem confusing. Can you show, step by step, on how to type/select the different options when I have, let's say the word aardvark, and I like to touch it and say aardvark. I copied the "aardvark" artwork, but it did not come with the audio file properties.

  • You do have to assign a .mp3 sound file to an audio object first. Do that in Effects
    -> Audio -> "+" which takes you to list of mp3 files you have imported via iTunes. You can name as you wish ((can be anything, but good to use page number or other way to identify where this sound belongs in your story/book. In Aardvark, it's "01 A Spoken" eg). Leave as Channel 0 for now. Save to create a new audio object.

    If you take the sample A is vir Aardvark book and open to Page 1 (A), you can see the step by step of how to associate an image with this audio object. Bring up the Inspector for the Aa image and scroll down to the bottom. You will see a Behavior list "Triggered by this". There is one behavior in this list, " A spoken"

    If you open up "A spoken" you'll find:

    Name = A spoken

    IF= User Touch Begins (select from gesture list, UTB is most common)

    THEN = there are two actions (Set audio volume full and Play audio instantly), beacuse we can cascade multiple THENs with one IF.

    When creating this action (can be done both here or in the Effects Editor), you would pick the '+' to Add Function. Select FUNCTION = "Play Audio Instantly" and object = the audio object you want, in this case "01 A Spoken". If you want to switch to a different sound object simply change the Object in the THEN action. Try it and and preview.

  • I will try to do a video on the procedure to do this over this weekend. Look for it on the Demibooks YouTube channel.
