Workflow via desktop solution?

After trying Composer I am wondering if there might be a desktop version of the software? My reason being is that while the iPad version is elegant and gives real time previews, the workflow is somewhat disrupted each time one has to go into photoshop and render some art and then bring it into composer. The same for audio files etc.

One could argue that one could prepare all assets on the desktop and then export to the ipad for construction, but in practice it seems that every contingency can't be accounted for during the creation process and more often than not one has to go back to the desktop for revisions.

Perhaps a modified workflow on the desktop with a version of Composer on the Mac. Similar say to Apple's Keynote which allows creation on the desktop and export to the ipad version and vice versa.

Just an idea.

  • Hi Marc,

Thanks for the suggestion - there has been significant interest in a desktop version of Composer, and that's something we're considering for the future.

There are significant advantages to having Composer built for the iPad - the intuitive touch capabilities, being able to preview books on the go - and we really feel that the iPad is perfectly suited for creating interactive book apps.

There are other possibilities we could look into - an improved Dropbox experience, where the asset library automatically syncs with the Dropbox folder, without having to import new images and audio files individually. Would that be helpful?

Since I will be working with a team, on more than one computer, it would be very helpful if we could download assets from the Dropbox without having to connect and sync the iPad.

I can see the possibility of being away from my computer and having a co-creator upload new assets to Dropbox. As it is now, I cannot get those into composer until I get back to my computer. Downloading assets directly into Composer from Dropbox could be a huge advantage.

  • As we already use Dropbox for book exports/imports we are looking at how to extend it into content. Not sure when it will make it into a release just yet.
