Today marks one week with my new smile. There have been a lot of ups and down so far, with tears and pain but also laughter and joy. And this weekend was no exception though definitely more on the rough side. Really rough actually. With a horrible sore spot and my upper feeling like it was digging into my gums, both issues were causing a TON of discomfort when putting them in, chewing, talking, and taking them out, which of course just got worse as the weekend wore on. To top it off, last night I discovered I’m developing thrush. Just my luck!....

However, early this morning I had an appointment with my dentist for more adjustments, and let me tell you, what a difference! Both areas still have a bit of residual soreness but the dentures are no longer rubbing or putting pressure on those tender spots and it feels 1000x better. Its like night and day. They gave me a rinse to help with the thrush as well. Then from the dentist office, it was straight to the oral surgeon for my follow up. I showed him the rinse I was given and he agreed that with a mild case like mine it might be enough but ultimately decided to prescribe some lozenges. He was pleased with the healing so far and told me I have “great ridges” to which I replied “well, well, well you sure know how to make a gal feel special, no one’s ever told me that before” fanning myself with my hand and we all had a good laugh. He and his assistant were both really impressed with my speech saying that they can hardly hear a difference from before. This is very reassuring because a) as a professional I don’t think he would lie to me, and b) I still have that job interview on Friday! Anyway, the moral of the story here is yesterday was horrible but things are looking up today. One day at a time. I’ve got this. You’ve got this. We’ve got this!!!

You, my dear are a inspiration to many!! Your attitude and humor are good for this journey. I'm happy to hear they took care of your sore spots and some of the bulky-ness. I believe in the beginning, for me, I went to the dentist every week for some tweaking. Point being, don't suffer through pain...call them. Good luck on your interview Friday. You got this!!

Thank you Lisa! You’re too sweet! I’m actually going again tomorrow because the upper is still digging into my gums on the left side, especially when chewing. And I haven’t really tried anything firmer than scrambled eggs. The lower however feels great right now and it pretty much stays put at this point. I definitely nervous about how my speech will be on Friday, but like so many other’s have said, people can’t really hear what I hear and where I might be struggling. Just have to remain calm and try not to focus too hard on it.
