I am getting 8 teeth pulled & an upper denture in 2 days and I am starting to get scared.I will be taking 10mg of valium 1 1/2 hours before the procedure.I have gotten a lot of questions answered through this site & I thank you all...Will I be sedated enough not to be scared when it's happening? How is talking afterwards? Is it different ?I have had nightmares that I can't talk or they fly out of my mouth or I drool all over myself..Fear is a funny thing.. I have a million questions and am SO GRATEFUL I found this site.

Sophie hi! I got 15 teeth pulled and upper denture 3 weeks or so ago. I just had local anesthesia so was fully aware. Lol. I too was worried and scared and to b honest almost walked out waiting on the numbing to get fully numb. Lol. But I didn't i stuck it out. And I'm so so glad I did. I had worked myself up into thinking was gonna b the worst ever but honestly it wasn't. I think I had been in so much pain with my teeth cuz of infection and broke bad teeth that the afterwards was nothing. The 3rd day was the worst and that was due to the swelling. I know everyone is different and heals at different pace but once its over ur gonna love ur new smile. I know i do. And as for talking its a little different but u will quickly adapt. I read on here sum1 said they read outloud a lot and i tried that. It seemed to really help. I know ur scared and i know the fear of not knowing is the worst. But the result is so so well worth it. Not just for pretty smile but ur health also. Good luck hope its easy for u!!! Keep us posted!

I'm on the fourth week having both upper and lower full dentures,19 tooths pulled out LOL healing is coming along fine, but still have little issues of eating (still eating "soft foods" ) pain has receded a lot. Talking is weird and trying to figure it out , I laugh when I see people trying to figure what I am saying. I figured that when I listen to my favorite music I try to sing along with it and seems to help in getting use to the dentures. The swelling will go down I wear the dentures for awhile and then take them out to relax the gums. At night they're out. As we all here keep saying "Hang in there things will get better" I'm wishing it was sooner but what can you do just let things heal at their pace and yep I look forward to eating REAL food soon. My tummy is complaing wit hall the soft foods and no real chunks to chew on.

Much better!!! Just a tiny bit of swelling in my cheeks.I'm getting used to my teeth..Talking is good, problems with word ending with ck & ng...and if I talk to fast is when I notice it the most..I am shocked that I had zero!!! pain..Looking at myself is a tough one..Everyone says I look normal & my teeth look great! that's not what I see...It will get better...I'm glad my old teeth are gone, I was just used to seeing that in the mirror,I guess..

Hope your doing better today Sophie! Along with everyone I will say, it gets better day by day. How's your swelling? Did you use heating pad for it? I was advised to use cold packs the first 2r hrs then heat following days for swelling. I am 9 days out, day by day it is getting better. Still working on the talking bit, I think i sound funny but everyone says I sound pretty normal.
Good luck!

that's what I use , its all horrible stuff , but it is a necessity for the bottoms, clean your gums real well, I use actual tooth paste and brush my gums, then rinse with listerene , and brush my gums again with listerine . then appy the junk to the lower and dry my gums off with a towel, place the dentures in and hold them in leaning my head back as to not get any saliva inbetween the denture and the gum, hold for a few to 5 minutes, I do end up with over flow ,but I don't try to wipe it out anymore as it just seems to looseten the denture, drink some liquid , keeping your tongue away from the stuff, and it kinda washes away. mine do stay in all day like that, its kind of a process but its better than having them flop around 2 hrs before lunch .
