I am getting 8 teeth pulled & an upper denture in 2 days and I am starting to get scared.I will be taking 10mg of valium 1 1/2 hours before the procedure.I have gotten a lot of questions answered through this site & I thank you all...Will I be sedated enough not to be scared when it's happening? How is talking afterwards? Is it different ?I have had nightmares that I can't talk or they fly out of my mouth or I drool all over myself..Fear is a funny thing.. I have a million questions and am SO GRATEFUL I found this site.

Sophie hi! I got 15 teeth pulled and upper denture 3 weeks or so ago. I just had local anesthesia so was fully aware. Lol. I too was worried and scared and to b honest almost walked out waiting on the numbing to get fully numb. Lol. But I didn't i stuck it out. And I'm so so glad I did. I had worked myself up into thinking was gonna b the worst ever but honestly it wasn't. I think I had been in so much pain with my teeth cuz of infection and broke bad teeth that the afterwards was nothing. The 3rd day was the worst and that was due to the swelling. I know everyone is different and heals at different pace but once its over ur gonna love ur new smile. I know i do. And as for talking its a little different but u will quickly adapt. I read on here sum1 said they read outloud a lot and i tried that. It seemed to really help. I know ur scared and i know the fear of not knowing is the worst. But the result is so so well worth it. Not just for pretty smile but ur health also. Good luck hope its easy for u!!! Keep us posted!

Thank you Melanie for responding with your experience..I'm probably making it worse than it is but fearing the unknown is not easy for me...I am so glad I found this site, lots of info...How were you at day 6 if you recall, I'm a waitress and they want me back for Easter..Could you talk well and function? I will be reading out loud alot and taking Aleve , hoping to keep the swelling down..Thank you again for your encouraging words!

By day 6 all the swelling had went down and i was talking pretty good. There r sum words that kinda sound funny when i say but for most part was ok. I think I was thinking I was talking funnier than anyone else thought i was but was cuz I KNEW I had denture. Lol. My husband and family told me I was talking fine tho. Lol. And by day 6 I only needed ibuprofen for any discomfort but honestly I didn't have much. Ur gonna do great. I think I just had my mind set on knowing everything was gonna b better. By day 6 u should b fine. I really wish u luck. This is a giant step for most people and the scariest step for a lot. It was for me. But I am so so happy I made this choice. Sum days Idk how to act without teeth pain. Lol.

I was deer hunting 2 days after having 27 pulled with local anesthetic. The drooling part might be a real concern... Just kidding !

I didn't say I killed anything, just that I was hunting. If I'd shot my teeth would have probably flew out!

It's Done!!!! The valium did nothing, but having them pulled after the novicaine was a piece of cake...I know to expect the worst after I'm not numb but I'm feeling great. My denture in the front doesn't have a cup or ridge , just teeth so it's sitting right in the stitches and bleeding down on to my teeth so I can't get the full affect of how it looks but we'll see!!! Thanks Melanie for thinking of me..I told the dentist how helpful finding this page has been for me to deal with questions and my anxiety

Awe!! I'm so happy for u!!! I know everyone heals different and every ones pain level is different but u got this girl. For me the worst day was the 3rd. Just stay on top of ur pain. I took 1 prescription pill then 3 hours later ibuprofen then 3 hrs another pain med and continued that. For first couple days then almost only took ibuprofen. I'm so happy for u sophie! Keep us posted on how ur different. I know this journey for me has been a big life changer. An awesome 1. No more painful teeth and i am proud of my smile now!!!

I'm on the fourth week having both upper and lower full dentures,19 tooths pulled out LOL healing is coming along fine, but still have little issues of eating (still eating "soft foods" ) pain has receded a lot. Talking is weird and trying to figure it out , I laugh when I see people trying to figure what I am saying. I figured that when I listen to my favorite music I try to sing along with it and seems to help in getting use to the dentures. The swelling will go down I wear the dentures for awhile and then take them out to relax the gums. At night they're out. As we all here keep saying "Hang in there things will get better" I'm wishing it was sooner but what can you do just let things heal at their pace and yep I look forward to eating REAL food soon. My tummy is complaing wit hall the soft foods and no real chunks to chew on.

Much better!!! Just a tiny bit of swelling in my cheeks.I'm getting used to my teeth..Talking is good, problems with word ending with ck & ng...and if I talk to fast is when I notice it the most..I am shocked that I had zero!!! pain..Looking at myself is a tough one..Everyone says I look normal & my teeth look great! that's not what I see...It will get better...I'm glad my old teeth are gone, I was just used to seeing that in the mirror,I guess..

Hope your doing better today Sophie! Along with everyone I will say, it gets better day by day. How's your swelling? Did you use heating pad for it? I was advised to use cold packs the first 2r hrs then heat following days for swelling. I am 9 days out, day by day it is getting better. Still working on the talking bit, I think i sound funny but everyone says I sound pretty normal.
Good luck!

I'm getting there Mary..Swelling is only a little in my cheeks..I went back to the dentist on Wed.2nd day and he took out 2 stitches cause I work with the public and the way my dentures were designed I don't have the gum part above my top 4 teeth and the stitches looked like cavities..I am eager to go back to work on Sunday..I practice talking ALL the time and going out to be around people..I think I sound funny too, but they all say I sound & look fine..My secret fear is that they're all lying but I don't think they are..Yesterday was the first day my teeth fit without fixodent..They fit like a glove!!! I was shocked!!!!

So glad you are feeling much better! Good luck on Sunday! I still have a little bit of swelling but it's much better, and hardly noticeable by looking at me. Tomorrow is the first day I will be around my husband's whole family since having this done. I know it's family but still a big one for me. Worried about being able to eat, even though my MIL said she made pasta just so I have something I know I can eat fine. Worried about talking in front of everyone also. I practice all the time, talking to the kids, dog, reading to the kids, directions when cooking out loud. I have that fear also that everyone is lying about how I sound lol.
Again, Good Luck Sunday! I'm sure you'll be just fine!

Sunday went GREAT!!! I also got a BOOST of self confidence too!!!! Some of my co-workers thought I had JUST alot of dental work...NOT fake teeth!! That felt good..Got my stitches out yesterday(4/17) I'm healing good..I hope your visit with family went GREAT!!!! Someone said my speech is fine, I may not think so because I can feel inside my mouth when words don't seem like they sound right, but they do...That helped ALOT!!!

Has anybody hear about FIXODENT PLUS WITH SUPERIOR HOLD paste for dentures?

that's what I use , its all horrible stuff , but it is a necessity for the bottoms, clean your gums real well, I use actual tooth paste and brush my gums, then rinse with listerene , and brush my gums again with listerine . then appy the junk to the lower and dry my gums off with a towel, place the dentures in and hold them in leaning my head back as to not get any saliva inbetween the denture and the gum, hold for a few to 5 minutes, I do end up with over flow ,but I don't try to wipe it out anymore as it just seems to looseten the denture, drink some liquid , keeping your tongue away from the stuff, and it kinda washes away. mine do stay in all day like that, its kind of a process but its better than having them flop around 2 hrs before lunch .
