I am so scared of this but I know in the end it will be worth it. Not being in pain anymore and I have lupus and they say getting these will help me fell better all the time. I just want to know what to expect at first. Thank you.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.  I go back Thursday to pull the remaining seven upper teeth and get dentures or uppers.  I had minimal pain with the other extractions last Thursday I have had just one pain pill .  I am praying this will be as oainless as the first ones they pulled.  No dry sockets yet...fingers crossed.  I hope everything goes well.

Looks great Irma, I'm glad you are having little to no pain. I had 26 pulled all at once and boy does it hurt. But it will be worth it.

Well some pain I mean I did have extractions but not twenty five.  I have not eaten anything hard yet.  I am going in for a check next week.  I am still swollen.  I took that yesterday so it is more swollen today.  Had the uppers in Tuesday.  Have not do the lowers yet.

It will be a good week or more before you can try regular food. Don't rush it or you will do damage to your gums.

I had 15 teeth pulled (That's all the teeth I had) and got upper and lower immediate dentures.  I did not do gas. I had Novocaine,  Other than some soreness at the injection sites I had no pain and only  a small bit of swelling.  Everyone's experience is different.  My dentist said I would feel better right away and she was right.  My teeth were so bad for so long that I didn't realize that I didn't feel well. I was nervous on extraction day but I told myself to get to the end I had to do this part,  One of the thing is to prepare as much as possible,  Get your supplies and food so you don't have to worry about that.   I made sure I had what I needed before extraction day.  You'll be on soft foods for at least a week so plan what types of soft food you'd like to have and buy them so you are prepared. Have your dentist prescribe some pain meds and take them before the numbing/gas wears off. One really important thing is to have a good breakfast/lunch on your extraction day because you won't be able to eat afterwards and being hungry and miserable is not a good thing (check with your dentist if you are having gas to make sure it's ok).  Good luck and keep us up on how you are doing.  It will be fine and you will love your new smile.  :)

Sorry Irma that haven't been on here in a bit. I am doing great at 5 weeks post-extractions. I am able to eat 95% of the food I was able to eat when I was 20 and still had full mouth of good teeth. Still can't eat steak or foods like it, I go back in January to get 2 implants on the bottom. So I will never have to use adhesives again. They will clip in to the to implant studs, the doc says implants are the best way to go for holding dentures in place. I will do the top a year after that, getting the top done will make tasting foods better. He said they would be shaped like the bottom dentures, where the roof of your mouth will not be covered. At 5 weeks out, I am so glad I did this, my health is better overall to. I have lupus and having infections all the time from my teeth made me sick all the time.

Great you can get the implants, Claeton.
I'm hoping I can. I'm looking into going to India to get implants. I have to hit some places here to see if I have enough bone left.
It sounds like you weren't lied to by your dentist. Good to hear.

I'm not with ANY of the companies or products, but I am pretty sure that I have them all in my basket. The only strips that I am aware of are the following: Poligrip Strips, Secure, Ezo and Sea Bond. There could be more and the ones I listed are all different to one degree or another.

Good luck!

Don't rinse with too much force and knock out your clots.

I waited 24 hours before I did a salt rinse. I didn't swish. I just shook my head and let the water run out to not dislodge the clots.

That is what they said to do or it makes sense.  Save the clots!!!!  It has been since Tuesday and I am hoping I don't get any dry sockets.  Should be good in about two days as far as that goes!!!!

The dentures act as the gauze so you will definitely want to leave them in. Take your pain meds. They will make a difference.

The pains meds seem not to help as much as Motrin 800 does. So I have been taking that. Yea I will leave them in no matter what. When I was waiting go back a guy came in for his follow up since getting his yesterday. And he left them Out for like and hour and could not get them back in, I heard the nurse tell him he will have to go through more stuff now and will have more pain then he would have.

Before extraction

here is my after charlid61. I am hurting but it is not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be. Oh and not even half as bad as the pain from my real teeth I had for years. I go in for post-op at 3:30, hoping to find out when I can use oraljel and salt water rinse. They told me do nothing until I see them today and leave them in until then. I won't lie I took them out about an hour ago but it was after eating yogurt and I just rinsed them and put them right back in. I can see the confidence in you after photo, I all ready feel better about my self when I look in the mirror. Even with my chipmunk cheeks(swelling). Thanks for sharing it does help me to deal with this.

Well I had my post-op appointment and they took of some of the spots that was hurting. That made a big difference. Still sore but they gave a syringe of SockIt and that stuff helps a bit, it like neosporen for your gums. Go back in 2 weeks to get first soft reline. I just wish I was 6 months past where I am now, lol.

But can the reline be done only by the dentist? Has anyone used the reline kit they have at the store's?

Claeton, I never had a soft reline I went from having 7 Keith extracted on top to going three months with no top teeth as I was not offered an immediate . I got my denture after three months but had to use adhesive. Then three months later I got a hard reline and have been able to get away without adhesive. But I still get sore spots. I went just yesterday was hoping it would help and then after I was home a few hours I realized it still hurting . I don't know how he is getting the wrong spot since he marks it with some type of ink and then puts my denture in and the ink transferrs to the gum that he marked to the denture . I tried using Benzodent and Orabase but they're really not helping. His assistant told me the only thing that will help a sore spot is an adjustment. But like I told you in my email I had two adjustments this week already and I am afraid if he adjusts me too much I'm gonna wind up needing that horrible adhesive again.

Marilyn, I'm sorry that no one appears to have answered your questions.

Yes you can buy the stuff and do a soft reline on your own. I have never tried it, so I can't answer anything more - sorry. Ken is the one to talk to. He made a set of dentures.

Good luck!

Hi Marylin.
I have used 2 kinds of soft reline. Walmart sells reline-it for around $5, and food city has it a little cheaper. I also bought  perma soft reline kit for $21 (and messed it up) went back to the reline-it. I can't take off work much to run to the dentist. It would also cost more in gas than the cheap reline kit. Then I made a set that I can wear without adhesive.

Sorry friends that haven't posted in 4 days. Bad news, I woke up middle of Friday night with a 104.2 fever. My wife took me to the ER, and turns out I got a blood infection from having all the teeth taken out. This is far from the norm, I have an auto immune disease/lupus. That is why I got the blood infection. I hope all is well with all of you.

How are you feeling now Claeton? Wow, what a horrible scare for you and your wife!

Without knowing who did yours, I know that I went to AD in mid-Michigan (that decided to close 6 months into my 1 year treatment) and the dentist there wouldn't touch me when it came to the extractions! After the x-ray and consult and, actually read my chart. Once she saw that I had a few auto-immune diseases, she sent me directly to an oral surgeon. I picked up the teeth the night before so I still came out of my twilight with teeth in. :-D

I seriously hope you are feeling better and that they are going to keep an eye on your until you are fully healed! Make sure you follow all your instructions and take meds - even when you don't feel pain, it can pop up at anytime. I've said it before and I'm saying it again, there are no heroes when it comes to pain!

You are in my prayers!

Claeton, sorry you aren't feeling well, I will keep you in prayer for healing. Take care of yourself and send me an email when you are feeling better not before regarding the socket stuff. In the meantime I am going to have to go for another adjustment and I'm going to ask my dentist about the socket also. Hoping you're feeling better real soon. God bless.

How do you feel now Claeton? I will definitely pray for your speedy recovery. I'm really scared now. I'm scheduled to get my dentures on 7th of July from City Oasis Dental in Toronto ( http://cityoasis.dental/dental-services/dentures ). I thought of not to read any post regarding this but out of curiosity, I've read many blogs and forums which are scary. Is blood infection common?

I personally think if the would trim down the top cause it is big, and not have such a bubble I would be fine! I honestly do not like my dentures! I've been going toothless and been a hermit and I'm only 28!

When I got home mine were bloody, I decided right then I needed to wait to inspect them and just worry about healing and I really didn't have an mirror time, I think for me it worked well.  People were asking me what I thought and I would tell them I wasn't really sure, because I wasn't  I have not really fully dissected everything about them yet.  Even as of today I really haven't studied closely what's going on in there.

I have looked at them when they are in and smiled, but really just quick glances, because I can't be stewing about looks right now - I'll get to worked up over them if they aren't perfect and I am sure they aren't, I am not healed enough for them to be.

I just do my routines, have snuck a couple quick peeks, but I am just letting whatever needs to happen happen.

I can tell just from glancing though & I had minimal to no obvious swelling, zero bruising, but things are starting to settle.  I can especially tell when I am in the shower and catch my profile in the glass.  Not a huge amount but I notice it.

Mine old yuckies came out and new went in on the 29th,  so I am not that far a head of you as it relates to time, but in that amount of time things are coming together.  It will for you too or the adjustments you need will be made.  I know though the first couple days when stuff was raw meat underneath they weren't sitting as they should and I don't think mine are now.  They are comfortable, but they are seated properly for sure.

If you can handle those protein shakes, I feel like those were very key in getting that raw stuff to heal quickly.  I wasn't a fan of them but they are only about 8 ounces, can be drank very quickly and when they are ice cold they aren't awful.

I go in tomorrow afternoon, so will report back here as to what he tells me to expect as far as them getting into what I think will be their correct, comfort zone.

I don't mind the protein shakes, but I rather eat a steak or peanut butter sandwiches! You aren't that far behind me, I have had any bruising just a swollen face but after Friday with my best friend the ice pack it's gone down a lot! I hope you get news!
