7 days with immediate dentures

I've had my immediate dentures for 7 days now. Yesterday I went in for an alteration because of the pain. Afterward I came home and left the dentures out the rest of the day. I gargled with salt water all day and put the immediates back in this morning. Toward mid afternoon I again began having discomfort and when I got home I took the dentures back out and have been rinsing with salt water all evening. Is it bad to take out my dentures for longer periods of time or should I be forcing myself to wear them until I go to bed?

Force yourself to wear them, Ibuprofen helps immensely. The prescribed pain meds did nothing but 800mg of Ibuprofen every 4 hours is a lifesaver. If you have sore spots where it's rubbing blisters I would say remove them and go back for another adjustment but if its just general discomfort, try to suffer through it.

About cost:

It really depends on who is doing the work and what state you live in. In Idaho we charge $600-$1250 per plate. It doesn’t matter if it’s a immediate (temporary) or a permanent (final) denture. The most important thing I stress to all of my patients is to make sure the clinic makes everything on site and gives free adjustments. Everyone is different and requires a different amount
of adjustments

Hi Andrew,
How are you holding up by now?
Could you leave your dentures in for longer periods of time?
Maybe you want to try rinsing with calendula . You can buy dried calendula flowers and brew them like a tea then rinse after keeping it in your mouth for a little while. It helped me tremendously with pain, swelling and healing.
I wish you all the best!

Doing much better Susi, and thank you! May 15th will be exactly one month. On the second week I forced myself to eat a dollar cheeseburger and it was delicious! Well worth the pain. Week three I attempted peanuts....lmao. Only got down three then the pain started. I've had two adjustments since I got them and they helped tremendously. It's funny how you have a sore spot, they fix it and another pops up somewhere else. My last adjustment helped a lot. Now my dentures have begun to loosen up. I'm having to glue the bottom in about 4 times a day so I have an appt. this coming Monday for either a relign or another adjustment. I have also discovered that my bite appears to be off. When I bite straight down I can keep my tongue in between the front teeth and the inside of the teeth on the right side. On the left I bite the hell out of myself! So something needs to be done for sure. Only time will tell.

HI  Andrew
It sounds like you need another adjustment
Make  sure they  get your temporarys right so they will know what to do to make your
permanent bridge /denture perfectly
Good luck

Hi Andrew
I know what you are talking about with the sore spots! So I finally got a little sore spot with my immediate dentures and my dentist corrected it. Then that same evening all of a Sutton I had a sore spot with my lower partial, which never gave me a problem from day 1!?
So Monday I will go back for that. But for temporary relief- yes here comes the calendula lady again... I soaked some gauze with the calendula tea and just let it stay there for those 2hours and the soreness was gone. I just want to share this and hopefully it can help others !
Congratulations to you for successfully eating a cheeseburger! See, it will all have a good ending!

Hi Andrew,
I’m on Day 6 with dentures. I’ve had two adjustments so far and like everyone else, another sore spot appears the next day. I talked to my dentist about keeping them in and was told that the gums need to breathe so it’s best to take them out at least for a few hours. But nothing will happen if you sleep with them in as long as you clean them and keep them out while showering etc.
Last nite was the first nite that my stitches bothered me. I swear I could feel every single one and I couldn’t sleep. I’m sleeping with them on tonite for a change. Maybe not feeling the stitches will let me sleep!
The soreness is still there, especially on the bottom. I physically can’t see any swelling but I feel like it’s swollen inside my mouth.
Been able to chew a tiny bit. Craving a cheeseburger but I can wait a little longer
Thanx to everyone for sharing. This forum has helped me immensely!
