adhesive with a pain reliever in it?

I have had my dentures for a year now - full uppers and lowers - and they fit well - but every time I wear them, my gums hurt terribly.  Does anyone know of any "gum deadening" treatment that can be done, or a brand of adhesive that has pain reliever in it?  Ive tried using Orajel with my adhesive, but that's not an ideal solution.  Help!!  This lady has a lot of nerve!!

You should see your dentist and get sore spots smoothed off. They should not hurt. Don't be satisfied till they do not hurt.

Thanks Jeanne - I have.  It just seems to be painful for me to have anything on my gums.  I've been told for years, by all my dentists, that I have very large nerves, and close to the surface in my mouth.  I thought perhaps all the extractions would have deadened some of the nerves in my mouth - especially after a year - but they are still just as touching and sensitive as ever.

In conjunction with my Sea Bond Strips (due to same issue as yourself - nerves close to the surface), I brush my gums with a Sensitivity Relief formula toothpaste. Even though your natural teeth are gone; your nerves are not. The Colgate toothpaste I use helps with that sensitivity. I also had to resort to Sea Bond Strips for adhesion. I tell you - these strips are a blessing because they pad the underside of the dentures- making friction against your gums less likely. No more pain for me. I also brush my dentures with this same toothpaste, which polishes my teeth and yet is gentle on the surface. I hope this info is of some help.

Where do you find that product you mentioned, "Secure strips?  For some reason after 6 months and the final liner was put in, my gooms must have shrunk more as the denture (top only) just falls down.  The Powder stuff gives out in 2 to 3 hours,  the fixident  still lets tiny thing in and then have to pry the denture off after a meal so try never eating things with seeds and so on.  Thanks

I was told when I got my teeth pulled, then getting the Denture on top that I had a "bundle of nerves right on top where the large front teeth were".  Well I was given a prescription of Lidocaine since I had several areas on top that were so sensitive too.  I actually take a Q-tip and line the denture with it, or you can put it directly on the gooms, put your adhesive on the denture and it has helped me many times these past 7 months.  See if your Dentist who made your denture and fitted you for them will prescribe that for you until those nerves recede for you.

Debbie,

I have come beck to your question several times. While I did give an earlier response, I don't think that a topical analgesic is your answer.

When having multiple teeth extracted, we all have some temporary pain during the healing process; however, your pain has lasted well over a year. This is not typical.

There are several nerve bundles in our face/mouth and the pain you are experiencing can be difficult to diagnose and/or pinpoint.

One major bundle is the Trigeminal Nerve Bundle. Damage to an area in one of these bundles can cause severe, long-term  pain.

I cannot and will not attempt to diagnose. This pain you are experiencing could be a result of various conditions related to your medical history. Unfortunately, while your dentist can help with determining your pain, he isn't the one who can resolve it. You need to consult with a Neurologist.

I wish there was a 'quick fix' to your dilemma.

I hope you feel better soon Debbie and that you can find relief for the problem. I am lucky that I didn't experience this during my healing process except for slight discomfort and sensitivity.

Am the same . but still on temps. Soreness and gums hurt while eating with tops. I have full top denture . I use a medium of goo. Or glue. Helps for cushion. And sores acts like a pillow . no pain. I rub oral gel in the denture itself .

Dave, I've had my full uppers for almost a year (July 2014) Every thing is fine but didn't get the tight fitting one I would have liked as my husband had and never had to use "glue".  Well last month I swear there was a piece of bone or something that caused a protrusion on the right side of my goom.  So I went to Walmart and bought the Sea-Bond.  You cut this to fit your denture, spray water onto it, put it in your mouth and press like you would the glue stuff. WOW Nothing gets under my plate now, no glue sticking to the room of your mouth and at night take your denture out and lift that Sea bond piece out and throw out.  I love blueberries and strawberries but with the "glue" stuff they still slipped under and then you have to get the plate out and rinse, breaking that seal and then starting over.  AND this is definitely like a soft pillow when eating.  I certainly love them.  Just try it and I know you will like it.  I also could stop using the Lidocaine for pain too.  Good luck  You might find it a pain when cutting them to size but once you have it down "pat", no problem.  Just follow directions.

To get rid of that soreness and to also prevent any sores on gums, rinse with Coconut Oil a couple of times daily, especially at bedtime..............works wonders!

Straight up, honey.......it's not unpleasant at all; tastes rather nice and refreshing. Just be sure and spit out after swishing around in your mouth; however, I have heard that adding coconut oil to your food wards off all kinds of diseases - there are hundreds of healthy uses for this stuff.

Since I've received a full set of dentures about six months ago, I always try to rub a Q-Tip soaked with Anbesol on the back of my jawbones before I put my dentures in and I receive good results from this!
