I went to my primary dentist of which I have not seen in years - her diagnosis is complete teeth extraction and full dentures top and bottom.  I was quoted over 20k (dentures, extractions, a few bone grafts and alveoplasty?) I think this is a taddddd to high so I am looking for other opinions but I am not sure where to start.  Do I go to a denture facility like economy dentures, affordable dentures or a prosthondontist or other?  A little confused here.  I am interested in IMMEDIATE dentures so i can walk around while I heal etc.

Also any advice on what I should be on the lookout for?  All new to me just started reading here so I have a lot to learn but my teeth are beyond help and I am left with no choice.  Thank you in advance for any tips.  I am in the Orlando area if that helps

I'm in Michigan and went to Affordable Dentures. The dentist sent me to an oral surgeon due to my multitude of health problems. I had 18 "teeth" removed, immediate dentures, numerous soft relines, and am having a hard reline done next week (was supposed to be today but I had surgery a week ago on my back and not quite ready to brave the ice and snow yet). By the time I get my permanent dentures my total will still be under $7,000. My insurance only paid $500. The $7k includes me going back in to have some bone shavings done next month. $ 20 sounds really high. I would definitely get other opinions!

Good luck!

@ Robbin - I guess it does help.  I just thought it was high but I guess I know nothing as I avoided the dentist forever.  I do hope to get other second opinions just having trouble figuring where to look.  A few local dentists here have it listed on there websites but I was not sure if a specialist or denture place was best.  thank you for your post

I had gone to Aspen dental. I'm unemployed!oyed so no insurance. The estimate was $12,319..00 for 21 teeth extracted, the best dentures they have which are comfylites, and being out to sleep. I joined a dental plan for $100 and that brought it down to just under $9900. Which was still high. So go a price for not being put under but given some pill to help relax and total now is $4845. So nearly half the price. I'd rather be put out but since I can't afford it I will have to try and brave it out. I haven't made appointment yet but plan on getting it done the beginning of April.

I paid 4,256.56 for top and bottom dentures. That includes extractions, anesthesia, and immediate dentures. Also includes impressions, bite block and color choosing for the teeth. U get immediate dentures after extractions. Then u can go in for any adjustments. 6 months later go in for permanent. Went to aspen. That was with insurance. Without insurance would've been 8,000. I was paying more for extractions then the dentures.

yes the extractions are the expensive part.  mine was $70 per tooth for extractions.
and I took the package option which included a reline when I'm readyand a new set of dentures after a year. Addordable dentures here don't take or file insurance.but they give you paperwork so you can file. hopefully I can file and get 40 or 50 percent back.

70 for an extraction! ! Thats awesome! i paid 112.00 per tooth @ 9 teeth + the comfy lytes package at Aspen Dental in Midland, Texas. Around 3,000.00 total but only for the full top. He did all the suturing, alveoplasty in 4 spots, adjustments, and all the soft liners i need up until the final permanent denture and hard reline after adjustments. All of this is in one price.i would love to do a bottom partial plate but i am not able to financially. This was everything i had to get this done, but i am so glad i did!!! No regrets. The price you were given sounds way too much.

I also went to aspen. But in Corpus Christi Texas. Each extraction was $112 but insurance paid for some. I got the comfylites as well. Paid 4,256.56 for top and bottom denture. If I had no insurance I would've paid close to 8,000

Same for me or 111.35...basically 112 .... 9 teeth...+denture package. I have no insurance at all. My son helped me. I think there should be national dental coverage as well. Half of your medical health good or bad comes from a healthy diet with alot of variety. Im personally a Vegan eater 99% of the time, but you have to have teeth to eat properly.

I just got an estimate from Aspen in Rockford I'll for just over $12,000. For the comfylites too and bottom and 21 extractions. I have no insurance. Unemployed and sure can't afford that. I think it's outrageous

Mine was $8080 and I have no dental insurance. I have a High Deductible Health Plan with HSA attached and dental work can be paid for with HSA funds. I used those funds for most of my dental work. It took me several years to build up enough money in my HSA to actually pay for it. Of course now, my HSA is pretty much depleted but it was better than having to use a credit card or come up with money for it other ways..

Marcia, are they including anything else like gum disease treatment ? Your top and bottom denture should each be around 1700.00 for each comfy lyte so that totals 3,400. At around 112.00 per tooth that would total roughly 2,350.00 for 21 teeth. Thats a grand total of 5,752.00 so basically around 6000.00 unless they are trying to cramp a bunch of other charges to pad the bill so you are getting ripped off. They are Franchises with the Aspen name on them. You should call the main 1 800 number and tell them what you are being charged. I would go somewhere else like affordable denture who has different priced packages and has a premium package. Also if they are trying to treat an area for gum disease or anything else check with your local colleges to see if the have a Dental Hygienist program or a dental school nearby. Our Hygienist program at a local college is 30 bucks for full xrays & 30 bucks to clean your teeth and they do a great job!! Scaling and root planing gum treatment. Its awesome. Also there are volunteer dentists who will go to different areas together to provide free services like extractions and fillings. Tap any other resources by phone calls before shelling out money.

Hi Marcia, I'm not sure why you can't do this in the states. Go for an estimate of a high quality denture that you choose in your budget. If you get it made as an immediate you will need some adjustments which are normal and a soft tissue conditioner (temporary) put in the denture about 1 mth after your extractions. Once you are fully healed at your 6 mth mark after extractions go back in and have them do a permanent reline on that same denture. It will feel like new and fit great at that point.

@Leslie. The price was high cuz I wanted to be put to sleep. So I had to have an oral surgeon do the work. Got another total today without being pput to sleep and the price went down to $4845. . That includes top of line dentures, with 7 yr warranty. Fittings, soft lines and a new set in 6 months. At least that's how I understand it. So I guess I will have to brave it out being awake. They said they will give me so ething that will relax me as if I had a couple glasses of wine. I'm thinking it better be big glasses of wine. Lol

Marcia: I went to aspen and what u r saying is correct. After extractions u get the immediate denture and soft relines until u hit the 6 month mark which is when they do impressions for your permanent denture. I didn't get a pill. I had 27 root tip/teeth extracted. For the most part it was more pressure than pain. What hurts the most is the shots not the extractions. When they numb ur gums it hurts but I took it like a champ and within an hour I was done. You'll do great!

Go to your Dr. explain your situation, the cost, etc...maybe they can give you something like a sedative. ..have someone go with you to drive you home. Make sure you go get ice packs to have in the freezer for when you get home too. Broths, a variety of soft foods and soups. Dollar General has i think its Rexall brand orange box, $4.00 Clay ice packs. Make sure you do the ice packs and gentle salt water rinses...Josie on here has great advice as she works in a Denture facility. She can answer a ton of questions. ...

I'm not sure what the guarantee is on mine, but I did ask how long dentures last and he said that it varies, but in most cases a set of premium, high quality dentures (the only kind they sell there) should last a long time. I started this process blind to what was going to happen, what questions to ask ect., but so far the process hasn't been bad and the dentist(s) and staff have been great. I didn't find this board until after I had my final extractions and immediate dentures inserted.  I wish I had found it sooner!

Gina, the same thing here! I found the board about 3 weeks after E day. My only experience with dentures was that my parents both wore them. My dad has full dentures and doesn't use anything and eats everything! My mom had just uppers and used Polident powder (and occasionally Efferdent)

I figured the worst part would be the extractions. Ha! Little did I know. But I love my new smile and would do it all over again!

I had all remaining upper teeth 9 and 2 middle lowers pulled, 4 bone grafts, anesthesia, immediate uppers and a partial 2 tooth lower stay plate for $2900 will be another $1200 for Permanent uppers and if I can keep my remaining real lowers $400 for Permanent partial lower So when everything's finished $4500 And I live in Orange County CA.

If you can get any personal recommendations that really helps. Ask around. You want quality work and a practice that gives you all the after care you need. After care is VERY important. You are by no means home free after extractions and dentures made. You must have availability follow up care and adjustments.

I went with a dentist office that is within walking distance of work. They have several offices in the county I live in and a neighboring county and 5 dentists on staff. They have their own lab and can do same day relines and repairs at their main location. I can go to any of the offices that I need to. They have been great and 2 1/2 weeks from the final extractions and insertion of full uppers and lowers I am doing pretty good. Upper fit well with no adhesive needed, lowers have been a little more troublesome, but with a little adhesive stay in tight for 14 hours with no problem, and are not hard to come out. Main challenge now is eating, although I am starting to move ahead with that now that I can use adhesive on the lowers. Total investment on my part, with 23 extractions, uppers/lowers, and reline sometime in the next year is about $7700, with discounts for paying in full day of service ($8088 without discounts).  Pick someone close to you so if you need daily adjustments you can do so with no problem. I can punch out of work to go for an adjustment and be back at my desk within 1/2 hour. Best of luck to you!

How much your dentures will cost you is a really good question that has a range of answers. The cost of dentures is dependent upon the conditions within your mouth, the types of materials being used, the techniques used by the dentist or prosthodontist, as well as the location and general operating costs of the dental office.

Denture care is an ongoing service to maintain a healthy mouth. What many patients don't realize is that there is a service aspect connected to complete denture care, which includes modification of dentures over time to eliminate "sore spots" or to improve how the teeth fit for chewing, and correcting the look of or adjusting the dentures to make them more comfortable and stable.

The conditions of your mouth make your treatment easier or harder and therefore may result in different costs. If cost is your primary concern, you might want to locate a dental school in your community for treatment, as Leslie mentioned. Keep in mind, low-cost treatment is of limited value if you have to have the treatment done over again in a short time. To locate a prosthodontist near you,visit www.gotoapro.org.

"Denture care is an ongoing service to maintain a healthy mouth."
Spoken like a true dentist who wants lifetime income.

Dental schools are ONLY about 30% cheaper. Dental orgs and associations make dang sure the industry fleeces as much as it can.

I wonder why it's costing you 12,000. Even me that I didn't have insurance I was gonna pay 8,800. That's with 27 extractions and getting the comfylites. Each extraction was like 100-112 and so I'm a little bit in shock with that price. My husband had insurance and put me on and I ended up paying 4,256. So I hope all goes well
