Afraid of gagging on mold for partial, now seeing that's not the worst....

After reading all the gagging and pain from partials etc. I think I might just skip it. I'm 61, and just had 3 more molars pulled a couple of days ago. Had a root canal on a front tooth a couple of weeks ago, have to get the crown done for that. But thinking of skipping the torture of dentures, or partial. I still have my front teeth, for now. This last extraction was torture, thought my jaw was going to be dislocated. I only have molars left on the upper right side for now, although they're sensitive, so who knows what looms.
I'm afraid of gagging on the goop for the mold, don't know if I can face that. Certainly won't wear something that will make me gag or feel really uncomfortable/painful. Very depressed, have to lose weight, just lost 9 lbs last couple months eating healthier. BUT now since Thursday gained back 2 lbs. Maybe it's the antibiotic, not eating healthy like I was, either.

The sensation of the mold and goop for the impression is vastly different from the feeling of a partial or denture in your mouth. That tray and goop are a lot thicker than most dentures or partials. Is this why you're considering not getting them?

Dont be, the mold is neccessary for the impression...this is what will produce the denture, well fabricated denture has no effect, if you dont go for denture you will have TMJD, temporomandibular disorder...which will cause pain you are avoiding at first

Ask the dentist to use a spray to numb your gums first. It makes all the difference in the world. As far as dentures go, they are so much thinner. It is important that you have teeth to chew with. You get used to them pretty quick. There are online denturists you can order from. I've seen videos, on youtube, about them. There are also implants to consider. Best to you in your new journey.

There is a guy, by the name of,  Bill Westlund, who helps denture wearers. There are also two women, Donna and Margaret. Just go to youtube and put in his name.  The rest will be apparent.

Oh. One more thing. When I went for a reline this last time, they tried using purple mold with me. I gagged like crazy. So she removed the plate, immediately, then used a pink one. That didn't bother me at all and I didn't even taste anything but a pleasant minty flavor. The purple stuff tastes so gross I couldn't handle it. So tell your dentist if you have problems with strong flavors.

Ok. I'm done.

I just had my impressions today. I promise I have the WORST gag reflex and I didn’t gag ONCE. I worked myself up all day worrying and it was for nothing. The taste was the worst part, but they have better tasting ones I’m sure.

It will take time but this process will be worth it. Some adjustments and you will be smiling again. Been 9 months now for me, no pain and I can eat anything.
