Has anyone else been told to wear their immediate dentures 24 hours until they heal? That a few weeks. I understand why it would make sense, but I am very uncomfortable. Only had them 4 days. They 2nd night, I ran fever and had chills so had to take them out. The pain pills they gave worked a bit, I'm embarrassed to ask for something stronger. I

I was told and did what the other posters said.  The less you wear them the faster your gums will heal so I wore them very little during the first 2 weeks and just stayed home.  By the end of 2 weeks my gums healed and the denture didn't hurt.

Yes..Maybe not for everyone but that is what worked for me. In 4 days it will be 3 weeks since the surgery, and I did not follow orders to wear them most of the day. And now I am wearing them with very little discomfort..my favorite is smiling!! I still need more adjusting. The receptionist says I cant be fit in(but shes very nice) but the girls who adjust them tell me to come in everytime I start to develop a sore...even if that is every day and they are across the street. So that is a bit confusing. I am far from a pro at this, but i would tell anyone to wear them the first couple days as they help with the bleeding and healing. And then work with your own body. I would wear them like they said, for much of the day, until my body shook with pain. Once I did it my way-taking them out when sore started to develop, it started moving along quickly and now I'm even having fun. Can't talk very well though..but that's ok. I know that will come along to. I just keep smiling. (and taking selfies. which I never ever did before)

Oh, don't be too worried. Are they giving you the laughing gas or sedation? Since I had so much work, i went with sedation, even though cost more. Never fell completely asleep and I though..wow this is not as bad as I thought it would be. My teeth were really bad..so embarrassing. I had a doctor ask me if I did drugs!!! I cried. (I had chemo and bad teeth anyway). If you can take pain pills-don't be shy. I got all my stuff ready before hand. Had the salt and the mouthwas they prescibed. Soft food. They said applesauce and pasta would be ok. For me, the was too acidic and pasta hard to chew. I got Boost drinks and the powder mix as well. The receptionist at my office said to use the dentures as a bandage for 3 days even though it would be uncomfortable. Yeah. Then take out just to rinse and put back in. But, I did not leave them in all day after that. Now that's just me. They were causing sores and I was just making them worse. Also, they told me to go in as often as I wanted so they could grind them down where they were causing sores. I didn't know that at first. So even though I did not keep them in all day non-stop, I'm doing just fine. BUT- that's me. So just think how nice it will be to have lovely teeth. That's what I did. And I am SO glad I found this website. Helped a LOT!!! Don't be nervous. Well, I know that's easy to say. Oh, did they offer you pills to relax you to take night before and in the morning. Well, if not ask them-if you can take them. They help. Let us know how you did!!!

My dentist would get me in the same day to adjust my dentures.  Sometimes she saw me 2x's/week. During the first 6 months they have to be adjusted a lot because your gums keep shrinking.  The tech's can reline your dentures and grind down where you are sore. The dentist doesn't need to do this.
