If you are using the strips for the bottom, which is recommended by the company and people that use it, they just take a little trimming to fit. When you are ready to remove them, you may need to rock them back and forth, try to grab a piece of the mesh in the bottom strip and gently tug, it should come right out. Just be sure to put the mesh and any gobs in the trash NOT the sink.

You will also want some of their cleansing tablets - you only need to soak in 1/2 tablet.

Good luck!

I would add that you should get a pair of small pointed end scissors for the strips . I have to trim a lot off the strips and without a point it is difficult to get behind your front teeth area. And invest in their cleaning tablets. The only cleaner that has gotten off aLloyd the residue.

I still have to get a pair of scissors, but Annie is absolutely correct! I am always stealing my hubby's that he uses to trim his beard - cleaned of course (I keep a box of alcohol wipes in my denture basket to clean Secure paste off my fingers and to clean the scissors).

Melissa,
It depends on how long it's been since your extractions. I wouldn't use anything but powders for the first couple of weeks. A stronger adhesive might injure the healing gums. After that you can try pastes or as Alicia calls it "gorilla glue for dentures" (secure) I stole - I mean borrowed - that term from her.

Melissa - It really is unique to each person. I, for example, have never used Secure because the powders on the top and paste on the bottom works well for me. Experiment with the regular pastes first. My lowers will not stay in place without adhesive at all, but as soon as I put a strip of fixodent or polygrip in, they stay with no problem all day. I've also heard that with Secure that you have to start with a very small amount at first and that you need to use cleaning tablets from secure. If you put too much Secure in I guess it can be difficult to get them out. I have no issue keeping mine in all day, but I love to get them out at the end of the day so that has kept me from trying it.

Also -- as Ken said, how long it's been since you had your extractions is important too. My dentist told me no adhesives for the first two weeks and I didn't need any on the lowers until just over two weeks and then I avoided using it on latest extraction sites. The uppers I didn't need anything until 3 weeks out.

To add my 2 cents - I don't HAVE to put adhesive on the tops most days. However, if I'm going out to eat or to a meal at someone else's house, I add adhesive. I use Secure for the most part, but still love my Fixodent paste and powders from Polident and Fixodent. I do keep a small tube of Poligrip in my purse, only because that's what they gave me at the dentist and I haven't found any other types in a purse size! Would LOVE to get powder in purse size! Oh wouldn't that be great. I was just thinking yesterday they need to make a travel size fixodent powder because I was putting some into a little purse pill container. I put the poweder on yesterday at 900 am and it started loosening a bit when i ate at 330 and i could feel movement but i didnt reapply it, but finally broke loose completely at about 8pm. I havent tried polident powder yet. The first one that comes out with travel size will be getting that business for sure!

I have been curious about how it would travel in a different container. I think I'll pick up some of those travel bottles, maybe I can find just the one for lotion, so that it has a smaller opening.

I've said before on here and to my denture facility that it would awesome if (at least) Fixodent and Polident would go in together and provide small (even smaller than they already do) samples, just enough for maybe 2-5 uses of a small selection of their products (i.e. 2 small tubes of cream/paste-one with and one w/o zinc, a small refillable bottle of the powder, and some strips plus a 4 pack of their cleaning tabs) how cool would that be?

There are lots of options - if they don't want to work together, they could do their own, throw in a brush & container w/their name on it along with some coupons and send out to denture places. If I would have received something like that, I would be more partial to one brand. Instead I received a small tube of Poligrip gel, a plastic box with nothing on it and a small, nondescript denture brush.

Or, they could do virtually the same thing but with sample sizes of most/all their products, maybe leave out the soaking tub & brush if they want, include a coupon for a full size version of the persons fave product, and sell it! I totally would have bought these types of things a couple times by now. One when I first got my dentures and then another when I got my permanent dentures. Maybe include a pamphlet of FAQ's, the customer service phone number and how/where to find this site or, if the other one has a site.

Ok. Just a thought.

I ordered some secure cleaning tablets, secure adhesive and strips off amazon. I've been using secure and cleaning with alcohol before soaking. I ordered some cleaning wipes, which might not get here before I leave for vacation. What else do you think I could use in place of the wipes? I am fairly certain I'm not getting all the residue off.

Paper towel and regular blue listerine (I buy Walmart brand) The alcohol helps break down the Secure. And a regular, soft toothbrush
I brush using the mouthwash until it feels gone and then with toothpaste.

Remember that according to my conversation with Secure, you only need to use 1/2 tablet to soak.

Out of curiosity, would you mind me asking why you clean them with alcohol before soaking?

I hope you are going somewhere fun!

Since I found secure locally, I was trying to figure out a way to get the secure off before I soaked them in cleaner (not secure cleaner). I've been brushing them as well with denture paste. Nope still have residue. Inside my mouth I am able to get it all off. And I noticed that I'm getting older tunes locally, which I'm guessing is a reason I can't get a thin application. It gets stringy fast.

That definitely sounds like an older tube!

Someone on here one said that you can use baking soda to get it off. I forget how much. Something about the pH. I didn't write it down because I have lots of secure tabs.

Give me a couple minutes and I'll see if I can find the post.

I'll have secure tablets tonight. I'll be out fishing and am trying to come up with a way to replace adhesive (on a boat for the day) then. I'm going to try a reline kit after I get the residue off and pray I get really good hold with secure after.

Lol, i sure hope it works if she tries it. I have been getting a pretty good length of hold with the fixodent powder since the softliner. Secure website said that you might not get a good hold with it with a softliner so im waiting for my permanent denture with the hard liner to start using it regularly. The couple times i tried Secure it only worked a couple hours. As soon as i tried to eat it was loosened.

I was getting a solid 10-12 hours and still having to pry them out at night. And that was on my soft liner.

Make sure you watch some youtube videos on how to apply and remember less is more with Secure!

Some people have said they put powder over it, but that made mine fall out.

Also, make sure EVERYTHING IS DRY! Fingers, dentures, gums.

I have alcohol pads for another reason so I use one of those to get it off my fingers.

Keep us posted! Fingers crossed for you!

When do you leave?

Hi Lizzy, I have been using the secure paste instead of the poly grip, cannot use Fixodent. I do find though that when I take it out I have some Gook, not as much as with the poly grip but some.

I had a hard relined done on Monday and just like when I first got my Genscher three months ago after going without top teeth three months, I do already have some sore spots. The good thing about it so far is that I have not had to use adhesive yet.

Lizzy, you may want to pick up some poly grip strips. They're individually wrapped three little strips in a cellophane pack which you could easily carry in your purse.

I actually was given two sample boxes, one the day of my final extractions and one at my 24 hour follow up. Each had a sample of adhesive, cleaning tabs, a denture bath a brush and an insert that included the url for this site. That's how I made my way he r e.

Lucky Gina2. That's nice that they gave you all that. Wish my dentist would've done the same. They gave me my unmediated with the lil bath thing and didn't say anything else. Except to keep them in for 24 hours and to come back next day for a small reline.

There are several people looking for a travel size to put in their purse. Your comments are not falling on deaf ears! I am going to share all of your comments about the travel size AND the "starter kits" you would like to see with our product team. Thanks for all the great comments. We rely heavily on our consumers to shape future product modifications. :)

Thanks so much Rosie! It's great to be heard! Like Leslie said, it's rare in this day and age to have companies listen to the consumer. Even when companies ask for input, it often seems to fall on deaf ears!

Thanks again!

Good Morning Elizabeth,

I'm sorry, but it wasn't me that said anything about Cushion Grips ingredients. I have never seen or used Cushion Grip. It had already been discontinued by the time I had my teeth removed.

I'm sorry, but I must go lay down as I just got home from having a minor surgical procedure on my spine.

I am very happy that you have found Josie and that she is able to answer your questions!

Have a lovely weekend!

Hi AliciaP, hope you will be feeling better very soon from your surgical procedure. I know I saw a conversation about the reason cushion grip was taken off the market and I know it had something to do with one of the ingredients but I don't remember which one it was i I believe it started with the letter B. I thought it was you and someone else but maybe it was someone with a name similar to yours. God bless.

If you are like me. I take the unused or partial bottles of Mouthwash, etc. From hotels.

Take a mouthwash bottle and rinse it out in as hot water as you can handle, let air dry for several days .

Once it's completely dry carefully add enough powder to fill up the bottle. This should be enough for one full application !

Me Too. I order the 4 pack which usually lasts about 2 months or so. Maybe longer. I really love this stuff. I've seen that people have problems with the goop of the secure but I wear my dentures until I feel them loose and it usually all comes off when I take my dentures out. I need to do one last reline on these before I get my permanents on June 6. Well there gonna do impressions first but I'm excited

That truly means a lot to me. I've been meaning to make more videos but my iPad will make videos but u can't hear anything so I'm gonna see about making one tonight. I'm so glad I was able to help u. I've come a long way from when I got my extractions. I can't believe I'm already going on 6 months. It was and still is a struggle but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm so glad I have teeth. Had been without teeth for about 6 years or so and I hated talking or smiling. I still think I have my old teeth at times and I have to remember they r beautiful teeth in my mouth. Good luck to u.
