I use the small side of my denture brush and poke at the adhesive being careful as to not poke my skin. I hate the adhesive too, but I can't eat at all without it. The food goes under my bottom denture and is extremely painful!

Best I have found so far is baking soda and a tooth brush with warm water. Wet tooth brush apply baking soda and brush gums. I have tried wash cloths, paper towels, toothpaste. Baking soda seems to work the best and leaves mouth fresh too.

You have to swish your mouth with Listerine (or for a better/strange example: swish your mouth with Diet Coke). The denture plate will loosen right up and "normally" the adhesive stays in the denture plate and not on your gums. That's how it works with me with using Fixodent.

If you still have problems with adhesive on your gums, then you have to rinse again with Listerine and also gently brush your gums carefully with a closed mouth. The brushing action combined with the Listerine will scrub the adhesive right off instantly.

I have been using the toothbrush and warm water routine for five years and it just makes my gums raw! As far As I'm concerned the people that make the adhesives don't care enough to make a rinse that works to help people. I hate dentures and the glue I have to use to wear them! I have really awful bone degeneration so my dentures will never fit right. I can't eat with them in unless I glue them in with a ton of glue, I've found that the glue strips work the best but as soon as your mouth gets warm the glue will start to ooze out all over. I don't think there is any easy solution and won't be until someone invents it! Sorry I couldn't be of help.

Someone suggested eating gummy life savers to get the taste out of your mouth. I tried it and it really works. I have used several different gummy products and for some reason the gummy candy works. I'm sure you can find sugar free also. I take my dentures out, eat a few gummy candies, then brush my lower teeth and top gums. Hope this helps someone. It's kind of a reward at the end of the day for wearing your dentures.

Use a washcloth wet with warm water to gently massage the adhesive off your gums and palate. Works like a charm!

I found using a dry washcloth helps the glue come off.  touch the dry cloth to the adhesive (it absorbs any saliva) then pull the adhesive off.

Yes! Both swishing with Listerine and then using a washcloth (I have been able to use both wet and dry) helps tremendously.

I know this must be frustrating. Butch provided good advice. Rinsing your mouth with very warm water or a mouthwash will help loosen the residue so you can gently brush it away with a soft-bristled toothbrush. If some residue still remains, you can try to gently rub it away with a soft cloth dampened with a small amount of cooking oil. Just don't pick at the residue, as that could cause irritation. A little bit goes a long way, so you may want to experiment to see what amount of Fixodent is right for you. Hope this helps!

I didn't start using adhesive until week 4 or 5. I have full top and bottom dentures. I had all of the teeth extracted, around 15, and the molars were pretty deep bowls. Once the dentist was very sure the socket was healed (even with the bowl) they gave me the go ahead.

I've found that very warm water helps to loosen them up. Rock them back and forth too. If you pull the dentures straight out I find that more adhesive will stay in your mouth. I also add salt to the warm water and while I'm brushing my dentures I swish with the salt water. That helps to loosen it from the gums even more. I have a very soft toothbrush to get the remaining off. Believe it or not the soda trick does work too! It's hit or miss but it does get easier to remove. The first few days it's difficult because it's so new and feels so funny.

Keep it up, within a few days you'll be a pro!

This Is only day 10 post extraction, but I've found that using several paper towels to really dry the roof of the mouth and I am able to grab the residual adhesive with the paper towels physically.

Ice! Suck on a piece of ice and spit ot out as it melts. It hardens the adhesive and you can then use a toothbrush to gently brush out the little pieces of adhesive.

I just use warm water and suck it through between the palate and denture. There's usually some left on the roof of my mouth and gums but a soft brush and toothpaste cleans it right off.

I use Fixodent cream and I've tried Polident. I'm sold on Fixodent. Polident, though it holds well, is much messier to remove from the denture and my mouth.

Thank you Charles! What kind of Fixodent do you use? I'm worried about the zinc and like the extra hold of Polident and being zinc free.

Charles, how can you suck warm water through the palate and denture? There is not supposed to be space between the denture and palate; and are you swallowing the adhesive in the process? I just don't know how you are doing this. But I've only had my denture (upper) for just over a month now and still hate the removal process of the adhesive stuck to the palate at the end of the day. Still just manually removing as best as I can without paper towels dragged across the palate to grab the sticky stuff.

I wish there weren't any space between mine. It would save me from all of the food that builds up there!

Get a dill pickle and put in your mouth. The pickle brine will help get the adhesive off. Regular (not creamy) Italian salad dressing helps too.
