Cut away center plate on uppers?

I just got my 2nd set of uppers today (a local hospital lost my first ones while I was admitted there) and I asked the dentist about cutting down the center part that covers the roof of your mouth (and your taste buds). My sis-in-law had hers done that way and swears by it. I'd love to do that as I usually take mine out to eat as I dislike food getting under that plate but the dentist (who did hers also and cut that piece away) discouraged it because he said they would not stay in place even with adhesive. They'd look like lowers. Does anyone have any experience, advice, insight, etc. about this? Many thanks in advance for any responses I get. Thanks for listening.

Actually all of your taste buds are on your tongue, not the roof of your mouth. Excess saliva, adhesives and other oral liquids such as medications can distort your sense of taste at first.

I use SECURE adhesive on my upper plate, for a better fit, and absolutely NO food gets in or under the plate when I use it.  I can eat pretty much anything I want, without the upper plate moving, even hard chewy lollies!  You should never have to take your plate out to eat food.  I haven't lost the taste of my food with my upper in.

Thank you, Positivity.  I will give Secure a try...never heard of it before.  Thanks again.

The only place you can order it from I think is Amazon. I live in New Zealand and the delivery is reasonbly fast. I think that if you live in the States you can order free samples of it. When you apply it, I spread it evenly over the plate with a q tip, then let it dry for at least 30 seconds. Make sure to bite down for a secure fit for a few minutes. Don’t eat and drink at least for 20 mins after application so the adhesive can expand. The lasting hold is at least 12 hours plus if not more. For removal, gently wiggle your plate of the roof of your mouth. I then get a wet wipe and gently wipe any excess glue of the top of my mouth, brush my mouth with a baby’s toothbrush with toothpaste, brush the plate to get excess glue off with a denture toothpaste and then I soak overnight with a denture cleanser. I have found you don’t need to use the Secure tablets when cleaning this way. Easy process. Best of luck when using.
