Day 3 back at the office

Today is my 3rd back to work. I had to give a tour today. Was pretty self conscious about my speech. I felt like it was rough, but no one said anything :)
I guess it’s takes time. Still worried about how unsound a little, but most of that is in my head I believe.

One thing I’ve noticed. If you get nervous, you will make your speech worse!! You just have to try and relax. Slow it down a little

It’s a constant adjustment. Mine are soooo loose now. I’m adjusting to that. I’m going to the dentist Thursday. 14 days. Too soon for a soft liner?

You should get one then. I had my first soft reline after a week or so.

That would be great. I’m starving to death right now lol.
I’m ready for 7 pm tomorrow. First time I’ve ever been excited about going to the dentist

Pasta is awesome, except I find angel hair a little to difficult to eat. How about spaghetti squash.

Thanks. I’m missing protein though. If I can get my partial wearable I should be fine. Wish me luck tomorrow. I won’t leave until they get it right or they make me. In which case I’d want a partial refund;)

Good luck tomorrow! If the Lower is digging it means your gums have receded quite a bit and also possible the denture was made a little too big. When fabricating it you don't know how much swelling one has compared to another so unfortunately guessing is also involved with science, skill and art. The Tissue Conditioner like I mentioned in the past will be like a "filler" and stop the digging and will feel like a cushion or a pillow against your gums.  What about salmon? Maybe you can have that cut up small or.....salmon pasta??!! Chicken soup.... Are you still having the protein smoothies?

I am eating anything that’s not painful lol.
As for the tissue conditioner, I’m not sure I need it on top. Adhesive is working well. I’m praying for it on the bottom though. Can you not use adhesive after a soft Reline? I love the security of knowing it won’t come out ;)

Eating is a good thing. You really shouldn't need any adhesive right after a Tissue Conditioner as it fills the inside of the Denture. If you do I suggest don't apply any for 1 week. The Tissue Conditioner is going to be kind of soft so be careful how you clean your denture as well. It's best to use your finger and not a brush so you don't ruin the lining. It will harden with time. Usually after a 2-3 weeks. Remember it's temporary so it won't be the greatest long term.

I don't think many Dental offices are very experienced with Dentures. Here in Canada they don't make them, they send them to a Lab and get to mark up the cost to the patient or if they're nice enough they will mention going to a Denture Clinic like us which is more cost effective or if the patient is familiar with Denture Clinics they can go on their own. We hear that here a lot as well. Most patients tell us the Dental Offices don't tell them much about dentures or Re-care after exo's. Pisses me off.

We will see how it goes tonight, whether or not they can get my partial wearable.
If the can’t I’ll have to find a clinic. 14 days today, still can’t wear it

Yeah. Worse now that my the swelling has went down. Tighter on the left side. Right side goes wherever it wants to go. I have a solid line of ulcers

Ugggh. Keep rinsing with salt water. They should trim a bit inside of the denture on the left side. 1mm or a hairline is like a mile in the mouth. More material (Tissue Conditioner) will set in the denture on the right side because it will have more space to fill. All around the bottom flange can be trimmed a bit too if it still digs and is sharp.

Right side inner flange goes way under my tongue. Left side is flat against my gums. Why would the right side not be the same?

Because you are human..... :p Our gums are all "custom" and heal differently. Plus it depends on the impressions they took if that's what your gums looked like to them. Not everyone has "smooth" even surfaces and depending if someone had rough exo's (butchered) their gums may be bumpy forever. Some people have pointy bones where the exo's were and can hurt well after the extraction date.  I believe it has a lot to do with how the extractions went.  We have coincidentally 2 women that are having problems almost 2 yrs later wearing the denture because of that. The Dentist will charge them to go back in and cut the gums and smooth the bone. One of them was complaining about her lower right area and finally after almost a yr they believed her and checked and charged her to do that. It's happening on her Upper and she knows they're going to charge her an arm/leg to do something so she can't go. Unfortunately she's single and recently retired and on a tight budget. I feel bad for her and we've tried our best to make her comfortable and always see her when she needs an adjustment.  I worked a short while in a Dental office and I've worked in a Lab yrs ago so I kind of know the "ins and outs' of what goes on.

Ugh that sucks. Molars can be tough buggers to get out. It's the roots that can be stubborn which doesn't make sense does it? Your teeth and roots can be in bad shape but they don't want to come out??!!! That's why you got to keep using that salt water for 6 mths MR. ! You can even massage your gums lightly and shouldn't wear them to sleep. That allows your gums to rest and the blood to circulate to help maintain what's left of them over time. Even though the extraction sites close and look like they've healed it will be 6 mths- 1yr of receding. Most of the receding happens in 6 mths well the fastest part of it.

Unfortunately once we start losing teeth our gums will always recede over time. That's when Relines come in. Everyone is different but most need a Reline every 2-yrs.  Dentures should be replaced every 5-7yrs due to wear and tear....Denture too loose due to gum change or teeth flat with no surfaces anymore which makes your body work harder to "smash" your food rather then "tear" or "chew" it but not everyone can afford to do that. I posted a Denture Care sheet last yr or so. If you like I can look for it and post the link to it on this post?

Just got off the phone with the dentist. I told them I fully expect a pain free partial when I leave tonight. I am not waiting for my gums to callous up, as they suggested. They said ok. We shall see.
They seemed surprised when I told them the partial makes my mouth bleed. Wonder if the tech never passed that on??

Good for you!!! Maybe they sound surprised because they feel bad to hear it's causing your gums to bleed. Don't give up on them yet. I'm always a mediator and looking for the good in people. Grrrrr it kicks me back in the ass a lot. lol. Honestly that's why it's not the greatest having dentures made through a Lab but not all states in the USA allow them. Yea I know I worked in a Lab (Cust. Serv) but it wasn't until almost 5yrs ago working in the Denture Clinic all the complaints we see when people come in here with ill-fitting dentures made from a Lab. I don't want to say Technicians aren't good and do a crappy job....I'll say that in my opinion I think when the person making the Denture is actually working directly with you the chances of having a better fitting denture is higher.

BUTTTTTTTTT DON'T FORGET you just had extractions recently and it can be a struggle and oh what a journey.

I saw an actual technician tonight. Took a long time to work on my partial. I am pleasantly surprised right now. I just ate an entire Fazolis baked ziti. Never came out once. No reline or anything. Just shaved off the sharp parts and that weird flange that went under my tongue. I didn’t want a reline on the top. The powder adhesive is working really well. Figure I’ll give it more time.

It may be too early to say, but this feels like progress. I’m even not talking like an intoxicated toddler. Right now I’m pretty ok with it all.

That's great! Woot woot! You got to see the technician. Hopefully you can see them for future adjustments. That's good that you didn't get the Tissue Conditioner now. Save it for when it's really needed. Mangia mangia. In my dialect we call the ziti pasta forno which is pasta in the oven and usually use rigatoni. My mom said she made it the other day for my nanna like she used to make with mortadella in it. Damn I wish I didn't live almost 3 hrs away to have me some of that. lol.

Remember it's all baby steps. I think you did good on waiting for the weekend to adjust, before committing to a full day at work,.
I have a lower partial that I haven't worn for years, (surprisingly I didn't need it adjusted) started to put in for a few hours at a time
Your becoming a pro Charlie!!

Eating with it was pretty easy last night. I honestly don’t think my lisp was even that bad. I will most likely be comfortable with it by Monday. 2.5 days of practice should help.
