Day 3 Misery

Everyone on here is so encouraging and generally satisfied with their decision. This is day 3 (4? I had them out Tues AM) after 19 extractions, bone grafts, and tori bone removal, and holy cow I am completely miserable. The pain is barely tolerable. I've thrown up 3 times today due to all the medicine on my stomach with no food. Throwing up on new dentures and multiple extraction sites was NOT fun. I have a fever and chills (yes, on an antibiotic). My face is huge and bruised. I just can't believe I paid someone so much money to put me in this kind of misery. I feel like it'll never get better. I feel like every hour is torture. Please tell me how long this is going to last. I need some hope, I'm so down today.

Hi Lisa I'm so sorry ur having such a tough time. I know for me days 3 to 5 were the worst. Mostly 3 and 4 tho. The swelling seems to peak around then and then starts to taper off. It does get better just sum times slower for others. Try to eat so ur stomach doesn't get too messed up when taking medicine. Even if its drinking tomato soup or broth. Anything in ur stomach is better than anything. Mashed potatoes r good too cuz u can pretty much just swollow them. I know it seems horrible right now but it does get better. Ice is a wonderful thing too. On outside of ur face but also holding pieces between ur cheeks and gums feels so AMAZING. Just let it sit and melt. Also salt water rinsed several several times a day. That really helps. Good luck hope u feel better soon and keep us updated on how ur doing

Popsicles were my best friend during this time. The bruises and swelling will go away, I promise! Stay on top of your message and try to sleep as much as possible. You had a lot done. What kept me going was knowing I never have to go through this again EVER! Have you tried drinking ensure or boost? Even those special k protein drinks will get some nutrition in you. Not gonna lie, eating is a big issue/frustration but it gets easier each day. I'm 4 weeks out on lowers, 7 yrs with upper. The lower was worse because my tongue was so beat up. Hang in there, Hon!

Thanks so much, ladies. I know I'm just feeling sorry for myself. But hearing that it'll get better helps. I just wish it were over with.

I discovered ice cream, but popsicles are a great idea! I'm going to pick some up. I've been eating liquids. So, drinking liquids. Soup. Boost. That's my diet. I tried mashed potatoes but they stuck to the roof of the denture and were really hard to swallow for some reason. I'm hangry.
