Dentures and ugly duckling syndrome

I am 26 years old and have had full dentures for 3 weeks now after an extraction of 24 teeth. I could have gotten them all fixed for like 30 thousand dollars but well didn't have that kind of money so here I am. I was not the most confident individual before with my real teeth looking horrible, but even now I feel embarrassed/ashamed. I now can smile wide but can't seem to find the confidence even now. Just wanted to know if this is normal and will it pass eventually?

Being 28 and having the same thing. I had a horrible smile I think due to medications I was on for 25 years or so. It was me getting married recently and my now wife that really pushed me and said your not going to be confident smiling at at our wedding that really made me want to go through with it. I only got uppers but it made a everything better. I had them for a few weeks before the wedding and it took a little to get used to. You will find your smile and it might feel weird but it feels really good to know that you can smile again and know that people are looking at your teeth and not at your face or eyes. Practice in the mirror, but don't force it just let it come natural. If you have any concerns with the appearance of the denture just talk it over with your dentists. Mine was awesome and we made it look great. Like I said, it takes some getting used to especially being so young were not supposed to go through this process but life happens and I chose this life just like you. Believe me when I say it. It is a lifestyle. This forum is great. USE IT FOR ANYTHING . To vent, to ask everyone is here to answer because we are all going through the same thing just some may be a little older which means they have had more experience with their sets.

Good luck and seriously you will find your smile

Thank you Joe. It is nice to hear you are not alone. Even if we are aware, it is just always nice to have it come from the individuals. I am definitely working on the adjustments for the lifestyle, especially facing them at a young age. I think that is my main issue, I'm young with dentures. Do not get me wrong, i stand by my decision, just working through the "I feel old thing"
