Dentures Driving Me Crazy!!!

I had 28 teeth pulled end of April 2018. I got immediate full dentures. My problem is that they are driving me insane! They still hurt at times, but it’s not the pain I can’t handle. It’s the constant awareness that they are there. Like I have this really uneasy, antsy feeling in my mouth all the time. I don’t know a better way to explain it. I find myself grinding them and I can’t wait to take them out at the end of the day. I don’t know if this makes any sense, but does anyone else have this problem?
Thank you!

Yes, I got mine in November, and they still drive me crazy, I have not even been able to wear the bottoms at all... I go next week for my permanent ones... and I hope they will be better... this has been a nightmare... Good luck to you, hope it gets better for you

I had ALL teeth removed in May 2017. I had a lot of bone loss necessitating the removal. I got immediate dentures after removal. The top denture has never posed a problem. The bottom denture never fit properly and I haven’t worn it. I had implants placed in my lower jaw in April and went back last month to have the implants uncovered and the healing abutments placed. I go back in two weeks to have the digital impressions made for a new top denture and a lower overdenture. It’s been a long, sometimes demoralizing process and I am very lucky to be able to afford this process. I truly feel badly for people who can’t.

I understand exactly what you mean about always being aware of them. As time passes and you get more used to them and more comfortable with them the hyper-awareness calms down. My son, whom wears hearing aids now for 8 yrs. told me he understood exactly what I meant.

Some days I don't think about my dentures at all, other days I'm pretty sure that's all I think about and that any body I encounter is thinking about MY dentures as well. :)

I feel the same. I am aware most of the time that they are there.

Two months ago had all top teeth removed. Had the bottoms for a while. The immediate did not fit, stayed in fine but could not chew anything.. The dentist made a new immediate, it fits, no sore spots, I can chew.. I have a good dentist and he encouraged me to report any sore spots etc, . If they feel too loose I get a soft reline. Keep ahead of your problems with your dentist. Right now I leave them in all the time, only take them out to clean them as they are very comfortable. Work with your dentist to make it right.

I just had upper partials and full bottom ones done on Friday of last week(7-13). I am miserable! I have been told that these are a temporary until I get my permanent ones (which are supposed to be snap in) . I feel so self conscious, they hurt and I feel like I’m choking. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

My tops ones never bothered me. My bottoms never fit properly and I am at the end of the process of getting my implants and bottom overdenture made. I had a horrible gag reflex with the lower temp denture and never wore it. It felt way too big and my dentist tried several times to get it to fit better. I have been holding off until it was time for my overdenture to get a new top denture made. On the 30th. I go back and get my digital impression made. It’s been a long journey! I have light at the end of the tunnel. It will get better. It takes a while to get used to having all of that in your mouth. Hang in there. It’s tough at first. I remember how miserable I was a week out from the teeth removal and new dentures. Keep us posted! I’m only getting implants on the bottom by the way.

Thank you. That’s what I’m having done implants on bottom. Have to wait 6 months for that though. Hopefully when I go in tomorrow they can do an adjustment on the bottom ones to stop the pain!

It’s a long process! I had my teeth extracted in May 2017, then had to wait several months for the implant surgery. Finally got that in April if this year, then had to wait while the implants fused to the bone. Went back a few weeks ago to get the healing abutments put on. The process is endless it seems but it will be so worth it in the end. Good luck to you!

My implants took a little over 9 months from extraction to final installation of full uppers and lowers. It felt endless at times but it was well worth it.

I just did lower implants. Due to bone loss, my oral surgeon put in 5 implants with bone graft material. That was the worst surgery of this whole ordeal. I am passing in upper implants since I don’t have an issue with my upper denture. My lower was awful and I never wore it.

I've only had the tops done so far.  But I am very aware of them although since alot of adjustments have been made they are much more comfortable so I'm getting used to them.  I will have my bottom ones done in september.  Snap ins on top that may be converted later on and still trying to decide whether I want fixed or snap ins on the bottom.  The more I deal with this top denture the more appealing leaving with a fixed lower sounds pretty good.
