Hi...I'm in need of dentures but I'm not sure what the first step would be. Do I just make an appointment with a dentist for consultation? or do I go to a denture place first?? Help please...thanks.

I don't know where you are located but what I did is look up all of the places that do same day dentures (not realizing that a lot of dentists do them now). I looked at the different prices and started making consultation appointments. Unlike you, I didn't know about these forums so I really had no idea what to ask (we can help you with that). At the first consult they did a whole mouth X-ray, so I took that with me to the other appointments. I went to 3 total. I finally decided to go with the first place. (I won't list names as they are franchises and you will hear good and bad about all of them). Due to the fact that I have a lot of health issues I had to go to an oral surgeon for my extractions but had the teeth with me, so when I was alert again I already had them in.

The place I chose will do a soft reline any time (all included in the 'New Denture Wearer Package '), all/any adjustments, a hard reline when they feel that you need it, and they prefer to wait 9-12 months before you get your final dentures. When you start the process you can just pay for the cheapest package and so if nothing else when it's time you would get a final denture of the cheapest level, or you have the choice to pay just the difference between packages and upgrade, which I'm going to do.

They also have coupons online - use them! It's an expensive venture but well worth it!

WOW. I didn't even think of doing the upgrade, since I was not aware of that option. I just went with the Premium package, without even asking about the options to upgrade. With the way mail delivery is these days, an onsite dental lab is the best way to go. Coupons do save you a lot of money, so do use them. The place I went to automatically discounted the beat coupon available at the time.

It would be best to find a place that has a dental lab on-site. Some can provide same day dentures after extractions and provides re-adjustments included in the total cost. Several other places may have a lab onsite too, so look for dental labs in your area. It seems better and faster dealing with a dental business that has this available, since it takes less waiting time, by avoiding the denture lab middle man.

I'm really hoping so. I'm getting pretty tired of the pain and embarrassment of having bad teeth. Thanks again!

No problem Jeff! Just let us know if you want help compiling some questions to ask that I wish I would have known to ask.

Meredith, I saw your unedited version and that was where I am going through. Oh and I only knew about the upgrade option because we are currently going through some major financial struggles and I could only afford the cheapest but hopefully we are in a better place when it comes time for permanents! I also hope that they will honor the coupon at that time!

Have wonderful day!

I am curious if their lowest package was actually better, since the second package down feom the Premium package seemed ro feel like I had a mouth full of golfballs, because the gum area looks so much thicker than the Custom package. The thicker gum area was my only reason for going with a high package on their package list. Do you think you have had any problems with the thinner gummed areas, your teeth are in? It took me about 6 weeks to not feel like my mouth was full of golfballs.

If you got your "immediate dentures" there, then what I can tell you is that the first pair of dentures are the exact same as the final dentures.

As for any other level. I don't have a clue. Sorry. You could all and ask them.

I felt the same way for years. The Ibuproohen they gave me worked better on the pain than I expected it to. I had my dental work done on October 23, 2015. It has made a large difference when communicating with people, compared to before I had all my dental work done. I had 11 extractions and could not tell when I woke up yhe next morning. I only had them use novalcane, so I was awake the entire time. It took 2 hours to do the extractions. My biggest goal was to get my two from teeth for Christmas. I had the best looking smile on Halloween night! LOL

Get personal recommendations if you can. Make sure that adjustments and relines are included
Understand all charges. On site lab is helpful. Pick your teeth color, don't get stark white. It looks too fake. Afterwards be sure to ask dentist questions and use this site, we have personal experience, the dentists don't......lol. Good luck.

When it was time to pick the color, the dentist showed me the "Hollywood White" as she referred to them and then asked me if I watched the show Friends - which I did and still do - she compared the "Hollywood Whites" to the episode that Ross whitens his teeth for a date and they wound up glowing in the dark. I thought that was funny and chose the 2nd one, but everyone is different and if you have any natural teeth or crowns that you are keeping, you will want to match up to them!

Remember that there are NO dumb questions and I have found that there is really nothing too personal to ask. We are all here to help and support each other! I really wish I would have found this site before my extractions! I wouldn't have called the dentist so many times. Lol

I went with "natural" white and this works best for me even though I had all my teeth extracted and have nothing to match up with. lol

Determined to "geterdone" I made an appointment with the denture place after consideration of price and reputation of the denture place. I already had dental insurance and enough money in the bank to cover the expense. I had realistic expectations of what to expect; the extractions, the temporary bleeding and pain, the healing process, the period of adjustment etc. I have no regrets.

I will give it a try later today through Facebook. But my email address is already out there in a few places. I don't worry about receiving unsolicited emails as I always have the option to block them.

Thank you in advance for your time!
