All of the dentists I've spoken to want to put the dental plates in as soon as the teeth are pulled, but is it better to wait?? Have to have this done in the immediate future and very scared. Also am very skinny, really concerned about more weight loss due to not being able to eat!

Well Marilyn, .... the ''temporary'' dentures will also act as a bandage for your gums after the extractions too, you may have stitches on your gums ... plus, you won't be ''TOOTHLESS'' for months either.. It does take several months for your gums to ''shrink'' & heal completely... You'll have a great smile too!..So, I say, Get them IMMEDIATELY.. . Yep, you'll be on ''soft foods'' for a few weeks, approx. 3 weeks, depending on how well you're adapting... Eat soft foods like mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, mashed peas, oatmeal, pudding, smoothies, pancakes, etc.. You'll experiment with ''chewing'' as the gums shrink and heal.. but some are already chewing in as short as 2 weeks or less...Your harder foods will need to be cut into smaller bites as you learn how to ''chew'' and you'll be eating slower as well... It's a process, but we've all come out of this BETTER THAN BEFORE ... No more toothaches, loose teeth or pain... It does get better EVERYDAY...

I think you'll be fine, keep updating on your progress once you begin.. We're all here to help you thru this process ... GOOD LUCK Marilyn...

Write a comment...Thank you Dee..I'm in tears about this, I am a union actress and of course that has a lot to do with my depression. Naturally I'll have to drop out of auditions and work for quite a while as I learn to speak. Also frustrated in knowing who to go to, my dentist says has done about 45, seems to me my complex condition requires much more experience. I really appreciate your uplifting input!

Marilyn .... Oh, don't cry...Believe me, you will be back in ''auditions'' very quickly...I had 14 teeth extracted & bone grafts with LOTS of disolving stitches done at once with just novocaine...temporary dentures right away..(All done by the ''Periodontist'') .On day 2, I saw my regular Dentist for a check up... Day 3, I was at the ''hairdressers'' and speaking NORMAL..I had no swelling and just a couple of ''raspberries'' on my chin, that were gone by day 4...Day 5, I had a meeting and NO ONE knew a thing! Well, I will guess your dentist won't be doing all this ''work'', there should be an ''oral surgeon or periodontist'' doing the ''extractions''...Your ''General Dentist'' will be the most important person to you for the next month or so, to help you with any sore spots or discomfort... But otherwise, You'll be able to go to auditions very quickly... Don't get depressed over this, it's part of ''Life'' and obviously you've been suffering with bad teeth for quite a while to get to this point ... Actually, you'll have a ''BEAUTIFUL SMILE'' and IMHO, lots of compliments on your Teeth too... Dentures nowadays look very NATURAL.. and no one knows the difference until you tell them... So, BE HAPPY just knowing you won't be in any pain, have loose teeth, and your teeth will be the color you'll love ''Audition White'' !!

Keep the updates coming Marilyn . I KNOW you're going to get thru this, like all of us have here... and no one whose had this done has regretted it... It just gets better, day by day...Keep the FAITH... If you don't do this now, you will have to eventually... so, as I say, ''Cowgirl Up''... It will be over before you know it! For me, it's been almost a year (April 8th) and NO REGRETS ...

It's been almost 2 weeks and I think I had at least 2 abscesses, so my preference was to wait until 2 weeks after extractions for the plate. Also I had dental bone grafts put in due to help avoid sinus infections since my roots from my upper teeth were in my sinus cavity lining. the dentist seem to agree with me

I'm in the 6th day of having 15 teeth pulled! And I'm not gonna sugar coat it..it's miserable at the time and everybody says it will get better..I wore my new dentures for about 5 hours after extractions.. until the numbness wore off, then was very uncomfortable ..painful is more the word.I am eating a lot mashed potatoes, avacados, tomato soup, jello, ice cream and pudding..Its definitely a life change! My dentures are to be adjusted on Thursday a little scared because I'm still all swollen..hopefully it will soon all be over and I'll have my smile back:)

Cynthia,.... I understand your ''pain'', however it would be best if you can put your dentures back in, for several hours a day... Your ''gums'' will need to adjust to the denture and ''form to it'' better... Also, the denture provides a ''patch'' over the sockets where your teeth were removed... I had to sleep in my dentures for 48 hours and only took them out to rinse with a medicated mouth wash... Are you taking antibiotics yet too??  Your swelling WILL subside too, hopefully by Thursday... The Dentist will examine your gums for any ''bone chips'' that might be working their way out too...You can also use ''Anbesol'' for tooth-ache pain to your gums while they're healing... Luckily the toothache pain relievers are sold in the ''Dollar '' stores too along with Antiseptic Mouth Wash, & they're much cheaper..  I hope you feel better soon .... Keep Updating too,,,. We're here to help you thru this ''Journey''.... It WILL get better, each day... I promise!!

Debbie -- If you are having a hard time wearing the lowers you should get an appointment and get an adjustment. The longer you can wear them during the healing process the better. But you shouldn't have to be in horrible pain while doing it. Saltwater rinses are very helpful and I have heard the orajel is very helpful too. Hang in there.

I got all my teeth extracted they put in Temps immendently. As soon as the numbness wore off I had to take them out. I could barely open my mouth wide enough to breath. A week later now I've barely wore them do to cuts and sores all over my gums now bottoms won't what so ever fit. Dentist says it's normal and to keep trying to wear them. But can't what so ever do to if I do I get more and more cuts on my gums is this a normal thing?

Eric, if these ''sore spots'' continue and the dentist can't find it on the inside of your denture, they have a ''Reverse Marking Pen'' that they put a mark on your GUM, then you put in your denture, bite down a second or more... then a ''Mark'' appears on your denture to the exact spot where it ''HURTS'' you...My dentist ''ground down'' some spots at first, but it still was poking my gum... so she used the ''Reverse Marking Pen... What a relief that was.. no more ''sore spots'' making me MISERABLE....

That's GREAT Eric... you will be having more ''soft relines'' for a few more weeks... They may feel 'loose' in a few days, but at this point, you may be able to use ''adhesive'' until the next soft reline... That's because your gums are still shrinking by the hour.  That's normal.... IF you have any sore spots after the ''reline'', go bac to your dentist, even if it was ''yesterday''... We're supposed to feel ''Comfortable'' during this Journey!!  GOOD LUCK ERIC...Keep updating too...

Aaron -- when did you have the extractions and the denture inserted? Have you been back for a follow-up? The advice of a LOT of people who have been through it is here on this board, but where you are  in the process is important to know.

The first two weeks is the toughest time. If you are in the first two weeks and are experiencing soreness, make sure you are taking a max dose of whatever pain medicine you normally use. For me that was aleve because I can't take advil. Some people switch between tylenol and advil. Also -- if you are developing sore spots you should be going back to your dentist asap. Don't wait, call now and get in. The sooner you get the adjustments, the sooner the sores will heal and your recovery will be easier. Salt water rinses are very helpful, but not for the first 24 hours and for the first week you should be gentle with it. Some people use oragel on the gums, but I  am not sure if there is a certain amount of time you should wait after extractions to use it. I used it one time about 1 week in when sore spots developed over the weekend, but that is the only time.

Best of luck, and share an update. I hope things get better soon!

Yeah got the soft refine good for a day went to put them on the next day had almost a straight line of a sore all the way up the side of my gums on both sides and stopped where my k9s would have been. Is this just a adjustment and a reline

Go back to your dentist... In the interim, if the sores hurt, add a small amount of Fixodent or adhesive over those spots...it will help until you see your dentist SOON!!

Hi Kathryn, if you can keep any teeth on the lower that will be best. A cast partial on the lower has clasps that will anchor around a cple of your natural teeth. This helps keep the denture in place. A full lower denture isn't the greatest as it doesn't sit well for anyone unless you pay for implants which is very costly.

I have like the front four teeth on the lowers that could possibly be saved. I don't have molars left top or bottom. Also only have one wisdom tooth that hasnt popped up yet.

That's great! Get a Lower Cast Partial also find out if a Cast Connector is what you need or not. A casting is stronger and will last you a lot longer than an acrylic one. You will have clasps on your 12 and 22 that will anchor to hold the partial in place. :)

If you can get a Partial on the upper a cast partial will be best as well as they are stronger. At the end of the day you should try and keep as many teeth as possible.

Oh okay. Well a full denture on the top can technically be better than a partial. A full upper has suction. All the best to you.

Kathryn.... Good Luck on the 21st... I would suggest that if you have ''gum disease'', which is the main factor in tooth loss... it would be advisable to have those teeth removed.. I had many ''deep cleans & gum surgery'' to no avail.. I still lost my teeth... Now, afterwards, I have NO MORE gum disease... I have a lower partial & full upper denture... When I had my consultation with the oral surgeon, he suggested I have ALL the uppers pulled, which is what you'll probably hear as well... My lower's were based on the ''pockets'' in the gum, and which ones were salvageable..I also had ''bone loss'', which required bone grafts at the same time as the extractions... I know it's not something that we want to do or hear, however I know you'll feel a lot better...No more toothaches, pain or gum disease... AND a Beautiful Smile in the end...and no one will know, unless YOU tell them!!

There's nothing to be nervous about, just eat a good breakfast on the day of extractions, breathe thru you nose and RELAX... The Dentist will put temporary dentures in that day, hopefully... You may be uncomfortable at first and won't be able to eat ''hard food'' for a few weeks, but I guarantee you, it does get BETTER every day... You'll be eating ''Soft Foods'' like oatmeal, pudding, mashed potatoes, mashed canned peas, canned ravioli or mac & cheese, etc...for a couple weeks or so, then you'll learn how to ''Chew'' harder foods...Heck, you might even lose weight, I know I did!!  You'll be seeing your dentist ''weekly'' for adjustments or ''soft relines'' as your gums SHRINK...IF you have any sore spots, go back to your dentist, even if you say him ''yesterday''... We should be comfortable, NOT miserable, in this process...

Keep Updating us Kathryn... We're here to help your in this Journey!!

Kathryn, I think it is most important to check with your dentist regarding your personal teeth situation. Whether or not to keep your teeth is based on many factors that are all different with different people. It's nice to have advice but just make sure you check it all out with your dentist to be sure you are doing the right thing. Thanks.

Well they took my teeth out, in the process I wasn't told to leave teeth in for 24 hrs. So after having them in for a day took them out to soak and they wouldn't go back in the next morning. Now I don't know what to expect. I haven't had teeth in for a week now. Gums are sore.. I can only pray they can correct what's been done. Anyone have anything in the knowledge of what they may have to do to get me back on the right track

Donna get in as soon as you can and have them insert them for you its always best after 24 hrs to have them be the 1st to take them out for you to avoid what has happened. They act like a band aid and help to keep your swelling down. Gargle with warm salt water like crazy! Hope this helps. Good luck!

You'll have to wait till the ''desolveing stitches'' are out...about a week or more.. then you'll be ready for a ''soft reline'', since your gums are shrinking & healing & the temporary dentures feel ''sloppy'' in your mouth...After the soft reline you can use Fixodent ''Paste or Powder''....I personally like the Powder since it's not as hard to remove from the roof of your mouth, like Paste is..... You'll be seeing your dentist weekly for the first month & possibly getting a ''Soft Reline'' each visit... Gargle with salt water, that will help your stitches heal too...  Keep updating too... We're here to help you on this ''Journey''!!

I had 25 teeth pulled on the 25th and had the immediate dentures placed. They removed them the next day. By my 3rd day I couldn't keep my lowers in no matter what adhesive I tried. Had my stitches removed today and a reline for now they fit great next week I get a bite adjustment.

Bernice, can you tell me where you went? I'm from Springfield, MA. My dentist wants to pull 2 teeth at a time and then I wait 5 month's for my denture's...
I think this is great on one hand. But ridiculous on the other. I would rather get them pulled at the same time although it will surely hurt much more. I can cut the time by more then 1/2 of a year!!!

Stacy.... In my opinion, having 2 teeth pulled at a time merely prolongs the healing of your gums...When you teeth are extracted, the ''socket'' heals slowly... Eventually your gums will ''smooth over'' those sockets & make it faster to acquire your PERMANENT dentures, which usually takes about 9 months.. Having all your teeth pulled at the same time & putting in ''temporary dentures'' allows you to get used to dentures & ensures that your gums are shrinking at the same pace too...IF they are all pulled at once, the dentist usually does ''soft relines'' so the temporary dentures fit your mouth...and you may have several 'soft relines'' for the first month or so... So, whatever procedure your comfortable with is your decision...

I had 14 teeth extracted at once, and it took approx. 9 months till I was being fitted for the permanent denture, which is  ''thinner & form fitting'' to your mouth & gums have no more shrinking to do... Good Luck Stacy... We're here to help you thru this Journey....

Dee Reilman, You seem to be very helpful to everyone on here with their denture and teeth issues. I am getting ready to have all my teeth pulled. I wish that my own teeth weren't so bad but I have to face facts that they are and it is getting to the point that I can't eat much of anything anymore. So after I get a few things taken care of I am going to have my teeth pulled and dentures put in immediately. What I was wondering is just how painful is having all your teeth pulled at one time? I know that you said you had 17 pulled and I will be having 21 pulled. I'm not a baby when it comes to pain but I kind of am when it comes to my having a toothache.. And does it really take 9 months for your jaws to heal before you can get your permanent dentures put in place.. One other question, there are 4 styles of dentures where I am looking at going (Affordable Dentures) they have the economy which is what they give you while you are healing the next level up in the economy dentures then you go to the premium dentures and the ones that I like are the ultra dentures which are much thinner plates. So does it really matter to choose the cheapest or the most expensive??? Thanks a bunch, Jac

Jac, I had all my uppers and lowers pulled 8/16 and healed in no time. My teeth were pretty much gone to begin with.  I had to wait 4 months for permanent dentures.  I have the medium priced dentures.  I did it this way to save $$$$.  I would say if you are going with the immediate dentures get the cheap and save more $$$$ for the permanent ones as you will be keeping them alot longer and want to be comfortable.
Please keep us updated.  This group has helped me bunches and I am glad I found it.

Hi Jac .... I had 14 pulled at once ... You will NOT feel the extractions, you'll be so NUMB...Be sure to eat a GOOD BREAKFAST or LUNCH beforehand...Once you are ''numb'' enough for the extractions to begin, RELAX & BREATH THRU YOUR NOSE, just like you did when you had impressions ..... The dentist will put in Temporary Dentures that are a little bit larger, to accommodate any swelling...You'll be given Antibiotics, Medicated Mouth Wash &  PAIN PILLS..... I had ''Bone Loss'', so I had bone grafts & STITCHES ... The day AFTER your extractions, you'll be seeing your dentist to check for any bone fragments that may be working their way out... BUT, everyone heals differently... I'D say to you:  ''Get it over with ASAP''... You may have swelling or you may not... I had no swelling & virtually NO PAIN that an ALEVE couldn't handle... You'll be sleeping with your Dentures for the first 48 hours, so this time is crucial to keep your mouth rinsed out well after each meal... You'll be eating SOFT FOODS for 3 weeks or less...then you'll learn how to 'CHEW'' with dentures..This is a JOURNEY that probably none of us wanted to be on, but we WERE....It does get BETTER EVERY DAY....& THINK of that BEAUTIFUL SMILE you're gonna have!!  No one will know you have dentures unless YOU tell them... You're LIFE goes on, just as it did before.. so ''BE POSITIVE'' ....

I was not offered any type of ''temporary denture'' (cheap to expensive)... so I only had one choice, ''THEIRS''!! ... As your gums shrink, you'll need ''Soft Relines'' which BTW, you should be seeing your dentist WEEKLY... After a Soft Reline, you may have some sore spots, even the day after... so GET BACK to your Dentist quickly...You're supposed to be comfortable during this healing too...  Then, after all the ''tooth sockets'' are pretty much ''smoothed over'' (9 months or so) then you'll be ready for Permanent, ''Thinner'' Dentures... In the interim, as your gums shrink, you may need some ''adhesive'' as well... I use both..... ''Poli-Grip Powder''  & ''Fixodent PASTE''... I like the powder better since it doesn't seem to stick to the roof of your mouth like the paste does but it's a matter of ''Preference'' for you... As the time goes by, you'll get the ''hang'' of this process, guaranteed!!  After the first year with Permanent Dentures, you may need a ''HARD RELINE'', which is the exact form of your mouth!!  So, keep your Temporary dentures, as you'll need to leave your teeth at the Lab for the day or so...depending on the material used for your permanent denture, some have to ''cure'' longer!

I wish you well & DO keep us UPDATED on your progress... We're here to HELP you on YOUR JOURNEY... We've all been thru this & came out BETTER than before... Think of it, you'll have NO MORE toothaches, fillings, etc ... GOOD LUCK JAC.... ''We're here for YOU''!!

I see the newest person on is Jac. I am going in on 3/10 for the same amount of extractions as you. Please keep a post up and I will do the same to let you know my progress and everything that happens. My situation might be a little different because I have been Diabetic since childhood. I am getting immediate dentures and the extractions are all in the front. Have been waiting to see how much $$ I had left after paying my Taxes and Thank God i had enough for the procedures. I was going to check out Affordable Dentures but I have an Uncle that had a bad experience there with constant adjustments that took the "Affordable" out of the Dentures. I am soo scared and excited and can't believe I actually have to get dentures. My teeth have always been taken care of and then all of a sudden in about 2 years total all my Root Canals broke down to the tips (bad dentistry) and what was left mostly on the backs of the remaining teeth is just almost a trail you can follow from tooth to tooth of decay on my gum line. So please keep a post up of your progress if you are on my timeline.

Hi Jen...... Yes, we try to avoid the high costs of dentures, however sometimes Cheap isn't necessarily cheap...  Whatever dentist you choose, they should make you COMFORTABLE during this Journey....When you have your extractions, DON'T BE AFRAID... You'll be so numb, you won't feel anything... Just RELAX & breathe thru your nose ....& think about the ''beautiful smile'' you'll have .... You should be taking antibiotics for a week or so, using a Medicated Mouth Wash & pain pills as needed... You'll need to sleep in your dentures for the first 48 hours, as the dentures will act like a ''band-aid''... IF your dentist doesn't prescribe medicated mouth wash, go to any Dollar Store & buy their ''Antiseptic'' mouth wash... When you put your dentures in the Denture bath at nights, use a denture cleaner, & when you're not wearing them, put a small amount of ''Antiseptic Mouth Wash'' in the water of Denture Bath Cup, to keep them free from Bacteria & germs...  You should be seeing your dentist within a day or so after extractions, to check your gums & progress...You might have some ''bone fragments'' working their way out too, which the dentist will remove...

Good Luck Jen...... Please UPDATE on your progress too ... BTW, have a good MEAL before you have extractions, afterwards, you'll be on soft food for a few weeks...  We're here to help you thru this Journey ... ''Dee''

Hi! I go in tomorrow to get 6 of my top front teeth pulled and put the dentures in. I had 6 pulled back in December. When I go in tomorrow, I will have a partial put in on the bottom and a full put in on the top. In January and February, I had fillings done on the remaining bottom teeth. I'm a bit nervous about tomorrow because when the dentist numbed my mouth in February, he pokedid the joint in my jaw and then proceeded to fill my sinuses with the numbing stuff.

Summer.  I also had the jaw shot because I had 1 wisdom tooth that had to be removed.  I was so numb I couldn't tell but all was fine when the numbing wore off.  Be sure to speak up as you are getting the shots if you feel any discomfort.  Good Luck!

They ended up calling me 30 minutes before my appointment and said it wasn't going to happen because they still had one more step to complete. They said I'd have to wait 2 weeks to 1 month before the dentures would be ready. I had come to peace with getting my teeth pulled and having the kids home for a week. I was hoping to have them done by now because I'm also trying to get a job with the post office, so I was hoping to be able to learn to talk and whatnot with my new teeth....

I had my teeth extracted almost three months ago... I haven't even had my impressions done yet... I couldn't afford the temp dentures, so I'm stuck waiting on my gums to heal so the dentist will do what he's gotta do to get the ball rolling... I'm fuckin pissed.... It feels like it's BEEN FOREVER, and I am sick of BEING TOOTHLESS... WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!

Hi Josh..... Sorry you've had to wait... In my dentist office, they offered ''Care Credit'', which paid for the initial process... That's an option you might be able to look into... Hope the NIGHTMARE is over for you soon... GOOD LUCK!

My husband has had his top teeth out and a denture made and is being adjusted from time to time until they are ready to be made to fit. We worried if we were going to have the money. Please look into care credit, it helps with dental and then get one of the discount programs. We went with one called Carrington. We paid for just my husband $100 for one year. He paid $55 for each tooth extracted and that was more then half the regular price. Great plan!

I use to work in nursing home kitchen so I know about pureeing food. Made slow cooker stew with chili beans&corn for flavor. When it was done I put some(no meat)into a ninja blender and had a smooth, creamy soup. Poped out my uppers(I am desperate to taste food) made sure I avoided healing gum holes and it was good. Previously Idumped dinner I was trying to eat into food processor. Ican only handle so much sweet stuff!

To Melanie Baker, my name is Jana. I am having all teeth extracted at once due to medical illness by oral surgeon (covered by medical insurance); unfortunately he does not do dentures etc. I have to find a dentist ( no dental insurance) on my own for dentures.
My MAIN concern is that most of you have immediate dentures put in. With that, you would have had to have a mold made prior to your extractions, I dont have that luxury.
If I dont get a mold done, I cant get a temp, which means I have to go completely without for 3-6 months for full healing, but also more jawbone and gum receding.
Are any of you commentators located in California? Mayb someone can recommend a dentist in my area.

Ty Melanie Baker for your comment. And to Spanky, I have been calling an office, Affordable Dental for 3 days, ALWAYS getting answering machine. "Hi, welcome, you hav reached (AD) etc, if u get this machine we must b busy with other patients, leave....etc" I have not received a call back after several messages. I liked them cuz they had a "New denture wearer plan", (consultation, mold, temp, follow up visits, them perms) with the top of the line type for approx 2100. Extraction etc are extra pf course, but thats fine cuz medical dr is extracting under med ins coverage.
So what to do if they wont call back n Im running out of time b4 surgery.???

Hi! I just have a few questions. My husband is getting all of his teeth removed on May 10th and he is getting temporary dentures the same day. He works a very demanding job that requires him to life 100 lb boxes and we can't afford for him to take off more than a few days. what is the recommended wait time to lift heavy objects? Thanks

I would suggest he go back to the Dentist & have him adjust the lower denture so it doesn't rub.. It's moving when he eats which causes most of the ''sores''... In the interim, he can perhaps use an adhesive, especially in the area of the sore....
Good Luck, keep updating too!!

Try some Kanka  (I found it at Walmart where the OraGel is).  When you put it on it forms a protective film over the sore.

I literally just walked in the door from having this done, teeth pulled, and plate put in, honestly it's weird, but I would rather be a bit uncomfortable than toothless, get the plate in asap. This has been a 4 week process and I'm just in th final stages, I feel better about it all, and I pushing through the pain cause i know the outcome

Hello I had all my teeth pulled at the same time. And got immediate dentures. My lower mouth is really sore. I have been back to my dentist 3 times in a week. I refuse to wear my lower denture because of the pain. People tell me I should at least waited 6months to get my teeth back or 6 weeks. Would that hurt me if I kept my lower out that long?

I had my upper and lower teeth pulled 5 months ago. I am going in today to get fitted for my permanent dentures. Although I have been extremely self conscious about not having teeth, I was more so worried about the appearance of them before I got them pulled. Cut up food in small pieces and you can eat almost anything.

Ive had four tooth roots cut out today, your gums will heal by natural clotting, i didnt need stitches. Pain killers will help afterwards and soft foods. All the best with your extractions.

Ryan, I felt exactly the same. Its been 4 weeks now since surgery. Swollen gums are no more and moreover, NO PAIN. Top set I don't even notice any more although have to be careful when I laugh, popped out couple of times with pressure from cheek muscles - luckily caught before anyone saw haha but so glad now I've had done and friends/colleagues commenting how much better I look. Want to wait couple more weeks before using adhesive just to make sure everything healing properly as I can't find definitive information on timescales for when u can safely start to use. Bottom set I think could do with adjustment a touch as they dig in a bit to bottom of mouth (not gum) but overall I would again say how glad I am they are done. Couple more weeks mate and you will hopefully wonder what you were stressing over. All the best and hope you feel better about it soon.

why not use the adhesive right away after the teeth are extracted?  i just had my last five teeth pulled over a three week period and got the immediate full dentures made while I had one upper and one lower tooth remaining.  the bottom tooth had significant bone around the tooth and the dentures needed machining material away primarily at the bottom of my mouth. i haven't been wearing the dentures most of the time--just put them in when i run errands or eat something which i must chew with teeth.  yet the dentures feel much more secure in my mouth with adhesive.  i estimate the slight sensitivity of the bone surrounding that last lower tooth extracted will gone the day after tomorrow and i will begin wearing the dentures much more with adhesive.

So good to find a current site with others going through the same thing as me!  Tomorrow I get my last 4 uppers pulled in the front and immediately denture put on.  I am apprehensive about the whole process, and the only time I have really learned anything is when I ask questions.  It seems to me that the dentists should have info sheets available for all the patients.  After all, this is a BIG DEAL!  I didn't think that I would need to be on a soft diet until I just read it.  I will get to the grocery store tonight and get some things.  I need to lose some weight, so looking forward to that possibility!  I have been helped too by YouTube videos.

Not sure. Have a full top and worth avoiding the pain. If you can keep the 4-6 front top? The back just is different. I finally realized it just was never getting better. Hold out as long as you can. Yes, your face looses support. Notice on the skulls with teeth, how the front top teeth come out very forward.

Got three upper teeth removed last week, but I was lucky as there were no crowns, so they properly fitted the dentures before the procedure, so I got to have them only two days after extraction. I had bad infections previous to the extractions, so had no pain at all after, just relief. I was eating straight after with little discomfort, and it serves to protect the blood clot.

I know how you feel. Use salt water often. I also use coconut oil. Temp dentures are bad fitting most of the time. Let you mouth heal and worry about replacements later. The worst part is over. Bad teeth make you sick so be glad for them to be gone. It will get better. It really will.

Hi Lanette I was right there with you about 10 years ago. I was 25 when I had to get my last eight teeth pulled out. If I would of had a better dentist I probably would of been more satisfied with the results. It was very painful getting an Immediatdent, I remember feeling my heart beat through my gums and like they were swelling over my denture. LOL It's worth it though I promise once everything heals up you'll be happy you did it. I hope reading this helps. Best of luck to you.

I just had the rest of my teeth about 10 of them pulled, some were broken, and dentures put in right away. Pain isnt bad, but when will i be completely without blood? And i notice really a lot how much more saliva i have. I still have 2 real teeth on the bottom that the bottom denture hooks on to, you can really notice the difference from top and bottom. The bottom is super sturdy and great.

I was able to keep 6 teeth on bottom. So yes the partial on bottom works great. It took some tough determination and support from those around me who had gone thru getting almost all their teeth pulled then dentures put right in. I was wimping out several times but I pulled thru. You just have to work thru it. It gets better. You can go back in and have adjustments made so doesn't hurt so bad.

I had 9 teeth on the upper pulled last week and the denture placed within the hour. I have been in a lot of pain. I can’t chew anything, even soft foods, without having pain.
It looks really nice and I have my smile back, so I guess I just have to give it time.....just want to get back to work....only reason i am not working is that I am still on pain meds and can’t drive. Hopefully going back on Monday of next week.
If anyone has any suggestions about what I can eat besides mashed potatoes and pudding or jello....please let me know

Hi. I’m scared to death. I had a sick dentist that told me I needed all my upper teeth removed from a disease. He didn’t pull them. He filled them down and put the Biggest pair of hideous dentures that smelled and tasted like acetone in, making me actually look like a horse. No healing time or antibiotics. Me being a fool and not knowing about temporary dentures or that he had lost his dental license, I went back with my dad and he cranked the gas on and sliced my mouth up for an hour and half, cutting the real teeth out and still giving me the gross dentures. Since then, most of my bottom teeth have been pulled because of Decay and I know I will Never smile again. I hate the monster in the mirror and I don’t have $45,000.00 for new teeth. Can you tell me anything to help me understand what to do

Sounds to me like you could sue the dentist, especially if he has lost his license. How long has that been? Can you get Care Credit or another medical credit card? Do you have dental insurance? Affordable dentures is pretty good, you might check them out. Obviously you need a new upper denture. Check this site out, there is a man on Etsy that makes dentures for pretty reasonable. I think he charges around 400.00 for a upper plate. I may be wrong but look him up on Etsy. I know how it feels to be without teeth. I went for two years without them because of the fear of going to the dentist. My advice is to go get it done, or you will regret it. I did. My thoughts are with you.

Lillian, Baby food fruit and vegetables will give you some variety. Pureed chicken will give you some protein and goes great with the mashed potatoes.  Soup is great too. Mashed sweet potatoes. Ice Cream is really soothing on the mouth.

I had my upper teeth removed right before Thanksgiving and my lower ones removed earlier this month. I suffer from Osteoporosis so my dentist wants to wait until my gums heal. I didn't like that idea especially since I missed all the food, cookies and candy during the holidays. I'm also going to miss the goodies for Valentine's Day and my Birthday. I still have open sockets that need to heal before my impressions can be done. I'm ok with it though because I shouldn't have a problem with my dentures fitting properly. I just can't wait for a beautiful smile! I'm 62 and single so maybe I'll even find a boyfriend...LOL

I had all my uppers, my last 6 teeth removed 5 days ago. My dentist immediately put my dentures in. They feel comfortable. My thing is the pain that when I take out to clean them in the morning and at dinner time. I sleep with them on. It’s just so painful putting them in and out any suggestions, maybe a topical I can put to numb my gums when putting and taking out. I need some relief. I feel like the walking pharmacy

It will ease down ... I had mine done 3 weeks ago and for the first week or two it hurt to take them out I dreaded taking them out but I took mine out to clean after I ate because my mouth felt nasty also so I was rinse my mouth out... my bottoms are taking longer to heal and it hurts so bad in the back it’s harder to eat and I can see white hard stuff back there through the gums I think it is bone so i have no idea what they do about that

I go on the 21st of this month to see when they are going to remove the last 4 teeth I have in the back of my mouth n that will leave me with no teeth on either side top or bottom of mouth n I can't chew any type of food cuz what teeth I do have is so broken n rotten is bad n I really don't wanna have to go weeks without being able to eat again cuz I've done went 2 weeks with just pudding n I don't like it n had only one tooth removed this last Monday due to it being rotten. Should I ask to get temp partials until they make me some or wait but i really do want some food so bad. And my front teeth i had to have them durabonded just so I could smile but since they did that I can't let anything cold or hot touch them due to pain and I can't bite down on anything hard or semi hard.

I just had 11 of my remaining teeth pulled about 45 mins ago. They immediately put in my temporary dentures to help with swelling. I'm in quite a bit of pain right now but its slowly subsiding. I thought 11 teeth would be to much trauma to my mouth but so far so good just the normal pain u experience when getting teeth pulled just a little more pain bc of the amount of teeth. Good luck.

You will be fine. I was scared stiff right up till they took all my teeth out in one go. To be honest was not in pain just a dull ache. Immediate dentures fitted same time. Not felt better don’t get toothache anymore.

I had nine teeth removed last Friday.  Still having issues adjusting to the teeth.  I take them out at night, however I think that is the worst thing to do.  I am more swollen in the am and fight to put them back in.  I am going to try to keep them in tonight and see how it goes.

Yes.. u need to keep them in as much as possible especially the first 24 hours... right now. Pain has subsided. I sleep with them on. Take them out routinely in the morning and after meals.
I had so much pain in the beginning because she had a hard time pulling the 6 teeth. I have a strong jaw line and the roots were long and curved. Technically I should’ve been put to sleep. She did it under a local. Took about 5 hours. I had a black eye for about a week. And my lips actually were very painful also... I stayed doped up after wards.... lol. I was alternating 800 Motrin with Norcos and Aleves like clock work. It gets better.. make sure you go in to get them adjusted from the sore spots you have. Good luck!!

I was told to keep teeth in for first 3 days except for when doing a salt water rinse. The 3rd day is biggest swelling day. Start when liquids and progress to soft. If any soreness due to rubbing, see who made your denture. After 3rd day you should be able to sleep without denture.

I had the last 27 teeth pulled Monday. I am also a smoker. They told me to cut back smoking as much as possible for at least the first 48 hours after surgery. Also the temp. dentures help keep the smoke from causing damage to the blood clots.

My dentist pulled 8 teeth out. But 4 of them the roots are still there. Tried putting temp dentures in and i gag so much and there so loose and digging into my gums. After 5 days im still swollen and in pain. I been doing everything i can on my end. I go back to the dentist in a few days. I been so scared out of my mind lately. The roots been killing me still and the temp dentures are so loose even with the swollen gums. Is this normal?

Hi! Sorry for the pain from the roots still in there. I am not certain why they left the roots for immediate dentures but yes they are gonna be bigger at first. In a week or two after swelling subsides you should feel some better with them and may even need adjustments. Best wishes!

I was plagued with tooth problems, dead teeth and root canals to the point where I was putting good money after bad. I had the laSt 6 teeth on top removed and she put in the top plate immediately. Now 3 weeks later I am just getting used to them. I've healed fairly quick and now I just have to get adjustments weekly. I guess it was worth it but I am still having trouble keeping them from falling down which I guess is just the adjustments.

It's likely that the immediate dentures don't fit well. Use adhesive to hold them up. Your permanent dentures will be better.

I got my upper teeth pulled 4 days ago. I’ve kept my dentures in except at night as instructed. The dentures are really irritating my gums. When out I have no more pain. When in I’m misreable. So today I’m leaving them out to get some healing time. They will go right back in tomorrow. And then I’m off to my dentist to get them adjusted. I feel like if they are adjusted now it will be necessary again in less than a week as I heal. Thoughts? Advice?

I just 17 teeth pulled, the package I purchased included immediate dentures, that I wear until I heal and get my expensive dentures.  I wore the dentures the first 24 hours, but after that the pain and discomfort I chose to take them out and let my gums heal.    I'll probably leave them out for a month

I’m sorry but I disagree. I’ve had all my teeth pulled the 1 st of November and still can’t have my teeth in and not eating either. The dentures and teeth themselves are too big for my mouth. It’s been 6 weeks now and am still toothless and not being able to eat much. I’m losing weight because of it and the dentist just keeps saying it will take time. I am going in tomorrow to see what and if they will remedy the situation or just “ pass me off” as usual. I am very disappointed and depressed and I too can not afford implants. Don’t understand why dentures have to be so difficult in this day and age! I’m thinking it’s just the money as don’t understand why they have to be so big and “ thick” when they say the permanent ones are better and why it takes 6 months to get them! They can also do reliant some on the permanent ones too so why do we have to wait so long for the less cumbersome ones??Disappointed in Minnesota!!

I got my remaining 11 teeth pulled last Friday at the VA in Buffalo NY.  Dentures in immediately..  took them out that night as i was told.  But couldn't get them back in morning.  Had a second appointment on Monday (three days later)  So many bone shards and the pain is terrible.  Now  Wednesday they are not going back in..  I don't know what to do as the inern dentist said they will not remove the shards and the pain is terrible.  Now what do i do?  I am eating soft foods and not worried about nutrition all there is good.. Help????

I had my last 10 upper teeth extracted first week in December so now fully toothless too. I had immediate temp dentures and also had trouble with how they fit. I had some shards which made then uncomfortable for about a week, and I preferred not to wear the dentures. But I tried hard to persevere as the dentist said they would help with healing. The shards seem to have worked themselves out and my gums are healing well. The temps don’t fit will though. Getting my perms in the new year though. Overall I am happy with the result as I can choose to have teeth in or out and the pain is minimal compared to having those last teeth in. Wish I’d had them all out a year ago. I think you were unlucky to have so many shards, but they should work themselves out.

I understand this is an old thread ; which in a way makes it better as I am looking for feedback from anyone who may have opted to allow the gums heal prior to having any impressions made and not go with the temporary dentures to allow for a better long term fit and less expense over the course of time. It also just seems that the natural healing process would be allowed to occur without hindrance from a temporary.
However is having a jaw drop or lock only prevented by a temporary? And is there anyone who in hindsight would have opted to forgo the temporary and can you share insight as to your reasons why please.bthank you so much.

I got the immediate dentures. I think it was better that way because I was forced to get used to having them in my mouth to right away. It is scary but you will get through it.. 45 is a lot but if you are unsure check around to see what's available in your area. The FEAR of what's to come is worse than what is to come. Think of it as getting into character for the role of your life. The healing takes time but you will be happy in the end. I recommend being put out for procedure.

Thanks amii..new concerns I just posted on another topic page include extreme bone loss, been told I'll need bone grafts, sinus lifts, tissue transplants (otherwise dentures won't work)...adding much time and of course money. Like the getting-in-character idea..and of course the being put out for the procedures!

Marilyn ... I also had bone loss and had to have ''bone grafts''... it's all done at the same time as extractions .. I also had to have a ''membrane'' sutured in after I got a sinus infection 10 months after my extractions, on March 10th, 2014 ... I'd guess, so are the tissue transplants and sinus lift... What does your dentist tell you about this procedure? I think it would be very ''odd'' for the Dentist to do this over several sessions, when I know I had bone grafts done the same day... The ''Bone Grafts'' are to build up your jaw bone so dentures can be worn... Keep updating too... We're here to help...GOOD LUCK Marilyn!

Marilyn, my dentist doesn't do extractions either ... she calls in the Expert.. the Periodontist or Oral Surgeon...You'll be dealing with your 'Periodontist'' for extractions and bone grafts... and probably all the others you mentioned...Your ''dentist'' will deal with the dentures and gum health primarily...and they do ''work together'' often.. After I had my gum surgery in March, the Perio called me at home for 2 days, then I saw my dentist for follow up... and if there were anything more to do, the Periodontist left notes for my dentist on my chart... So far, I cannot complain.. I feel I'm in ''good hands'' with both my Perio and Dentist ...I've seen my dentist twice since March 10, and I'll see the Perio on April 14th...to remove stitches from the bacterial infection that got into my sinuses.. which is RARE, so don't be alarmed... a little set back, but nothing to write home about...

Your wife should be on antibiotics, however once the swelling goes down, she should be able to put her dentures back in.. A trip to the Dentist, the day after  extractions should have been done as well, to check gums & stitches if she had any... She can use ''ice packs'' to help swelling & hopefully she was prescribed ''pain pills'' too... Given this is a ''holiday weekend'', she may need to call for prescriptions if they weren't given initially...Rinsing with warm salt water will help too...and an ''antiseptic mouthwash'' after each meal...(even though she's eating ''soft foods'' now, it's IMPORTANT to keep the mouth very clean)...Hope this helps ..Keep updating too... Good Luck, ''Dee''

I just had all my teeth pulled, an had immediately dentures put in this past Tuesday, I've had to take my bottom out due to hurting an making me look as if I had two cans of dip in my lower mouth. Witch I go by to get relined tuesday to help fit better . But when I took my top out to clean my mouth I noticed ed that where my wisdom teeth where on top, I have two big open holes on each side of my top gums.. is this normal, or would this be due to stitches coming loose an wasn't as tight as they should be.? Should I be worried or at least wait a few more days an watch to see if it may get better? Due to how deep he had to cut to get the out

Hi Holly, ..... When you visit your Dentist, inquire about that.. It is NORMAL after extractions, that you WILL have ''HOLES'' where the teeth WERE... Those holes will shrink & smooth over as time goes by...There's usually a small ''plug'' in the socket that will disappear too... IF you had disolving stitches, they will work their way out, or your dentist might remove them.. Just make sure you keep your mouth very clean,,,Gargle after each meal....You should be OK tho.. Good Luck!!

HI Dee, you seem to really know about this stuff so I'm gonna ask you..I had 4 top teeth pulled on the top Tuesday and my partials put in but I took them put the day after and cleaned em and all that good stuff but they didn't give me any antibiotics and I feel I should be on some due to safe measures but I took them out today and they kinda smell and I rinsed my mouth out with water cause they didn't give me any type of mouth wash to rinse with and I definitely am not using Colgate mouth was it'll set me on fire lol..but there's a blister like thing at the top of my right extraction and it throbs and hurts and I can't eat cause it's so sore but I do go back tomorrow to have them to adjust them to fit my mouth better they're too big on the left side and I feel like the reason I'm getting so sore on the right side is cause they're too small on that side and it's irritating my gums..but what kind of mouth rinse should I get to rinse my gums in and also do I need to have them to put me on antibiotics??..thankyou :-)

Hi Dana..... I will surmise that anytime you have a lot of teeth extracted, you should be on antibiotics, so I would ASK your dentist to prescribe them for you, even if they object...You have ''holes'' where your teeth WERE & you should be getting a ''plug'' so to speak, in those holes so you don't get a ''dry socket''...  Now, if you have sores due to the ''Partial'', that can be adjusted with the ''clips'' that secure to nearby teeth...Sometimes, even the teeth in the partial can interfere with your BITE...Have the dentist do a ''bite'' test on your upper & lower area, so your teeth align properly & you're not biting your cheek either..... In the interim, you may want to gargle several times a day with warm Salt Water, which will help swelling.... IF you need a mouthwash, I still use ''Antiseptic Mouthwash'' to kill any germs... however, it's strong, so it might be like a ''fire'' on your gums until there's less irritation in your mouth.... I purchase that at the ''Dollar'' store...  BTW, you can use an ''Oral Anelgesic Gel'' like what you'd use if you had a toothache... it can be used for Denture & Gum irritations too,...  I hope your appt. today goes well with your Dentist and they will make you more COMFORTABLE...   Do you have lower dentures or just an upper partial??   Keep updating on YOUR progress too... We're here to help you... GOOD LUCK DANA.....

Jana if $$$$ is available you need to get impressions made before extractions.  Perhaps Affordable Dentures can do this for you, or you could call various dentists in your area and see if they do.

You can use fixodent and also make sure you take out starting tonight (bedtime) for your gums to breath and get rest from plate. I was told different(idiots), and when I went for follow up I had so many sores from not using fixodent or getting in sooner to get adjusted. Was way too big for my mouth! My mouth is killing me, and had the work done Tues. Today am finally able to have oatmeal, and minimal pain. Goodluck to you!

I used a small amount of fixodent this morning but maybe I need a bit more to secure really tight, I didn't want to put to much on the extraction area just in case I was doing the wrong thing...but I think it's going to take a while to get used to them and get the grip right ....but I have managed to talk more today without feeling I was going to lose my new friends ...tomorrow maybe I will apply more to the extraction area to see if i can make it easier to eat as it's still a little wobbly ..yet not as much as before

Yes, I was told it is fine to use it. They said the bottom will always need a seal of some sort. the wobbly is because you need adjusted, trust me on that! If your dentist is open today I would get in, if not just use as much fixodent as need be and make sure you take out at night so not rubbing on gums all night. trust me, it is the worse :( I am prolonged by 3 days now healing because of it!

I don't have any stitches , maybe as they were front bottom ones that were removed ..I don't think I have much swelling ...they have been such a nightmare for about 14 yrs that it's a blessing that they are gone to be honest ...it's me being a wimp and not wanting a dentist to go anywhere near me that led them being bad for so long...I decided enough was enough and within 2 weeks I had gone , had the impression made, and had the extraction...the worst bit was having a reaction to the adrenaline in the anaesthetic which made me shake so violently I almost fell off the chair ...that was scary.
But anyway I have only used a very small amount of fixodent on the central section as to not smother the extraction site, tomorrow I will try with a bit more ...it's only a small denture so I don't have much of a plate if you get me....it's only a small dinky one ...but as long as it's safe to use so soon then I will give it a bash ,..I'm gagging to eat lol

That sounds like what I did. Lol. I have had bad teeth for years and I had 2 back teeth killing me so when i went to dentist I told him I was tired of always having painful infected teeth and 3 weeks later got all uppers pulled. I still have most of my bottoms tho. Gonna try to hold onto them as long as possible. Lol. I know its really helped me health wise and my confidence. I hadn't openly smiled in prob 15 years or more. Now I do all the time. Lol. U should look into getting sum secure denture paste. Its AMAZING!!! I've only found online. But I wanted to try first so I called secure company and they sent me a free tube. I only use it or the poligrip powder. But secure is like gorilla glue for dentures. Lol

Make sure to keep your tongue behind your bottom dentures Everytime you open your mouth. Practice until it is a complete habit! What a difference!

I just had full upper denture and a partial on the bottom 4 days ago. I am feeling pretty emotional and the dentures drive me crazy late in the afternoon. I know it's normal and a process.

Sounds to me like you need to have the court appoint you a neutral and legal counsel and give you a voice to help you handle these things because apparently your family isn't going to. I know that it's sad but it probably should be done. Going through this with a friend of our family right now

Cynthia, it sounds like you need to research and find a good dentist in your area.  I read once dentures should be replaced every 10 years.  I don't know if that is true or not, but it sounds to me like your daughters are not looking out for your best interest, so I would not hesitate to find someone else.  You can google good dentist reviews in your area and select someone who is a 5 star.  I wish you the best.

Very sad to hear you are not having good emotional support. This is not easy. Suggest going to a dentist who specializes in maxillofacial prosthetic s, or dentures. Not a regular dentist. Not sure why it hurts?
Do not use the Walmart adhesives— they have parabens— like the gas in your car— and cause extreme ongoing sores

Its Saturday and this past Wednesday I had all of my top teeth extracted. I haven't experienced much pain but I'm wondering how long I can safely go without any dentures. It llooks like its going to be 3-4 weeks before I get my top dentures. Is that going to hurt my getting used to them?

Like Sherry, I had all my to teeth removed. At the time of writing, I have stitches which will be removed in a week's time. I haven't experienced much pain either. I'm told that I can have the dentures in 10 days - but I'm willing to wait until 2 weeks! No more loose teeth, pain and infection, looking forward to a great smile, I can afford to wait for the gums to heal.

I just had the remaining 11 of my bottom teeth removed this past Thursday and got the denture right away. It is bothering me a little, and I really feel like I need a little break from having it in my mouth. But, I have been really good and left it in except for rinsing my mouth out after eating.

Becky... it's BEST to have ALL of the extractions done all at once...then the ''temporary denture''  will act as a band-aid if you have stitches, & the swelling will all go down at the same time instead of ''5 teeth at a time''... This will also speed up the process of ''when'' you get your dentures... Why walk around ''toothless'', waiting for the last teeth to be pulled??  This is a process which we all have endured & know that this is only ''temporary''.. You'll be in permanent dentures in 7-9 months... Good Luck Becky... you will have a beautiful smile when it's all 'over & done''...

Don't ''stress out'' about the pain, if you have any at all... You'll be given pain pills, an antiseptic mouthwash & antibiotics initially.... You'll be seeing your dentist the day after extractions, to check for any bone fragments working their way out thru your gums...& checking for any sore spots... You'll SLEEP with your dentures the first 48 hours as well...

I had 0 pain. I decided to wait to get teeth simply mine were so bad i didn't have any for 8 years. I saved and saved till i had 8000 dollars and i was able to get them out. 28 teeth 2 surgery's. i had them a week apart top then bottom under IV sedation. No pain at all . I mean 0. I have waited to get teeth because i am afraid it would hurt wearing them so i just held off. its been 4 months with no teeth and i can eat anything....... steak Cheetos candy all that stuff that bad for me but i never did get to eat it for years. I am going tomorrow to get some molds made. 4 and half months with no teeth healing. I'm so excited! I have cried twice today realizing that the days being toothless and made fun of are about over. I have been in the background since day 1 of this thread watching the comments and building strength through them. I can wait to post my picture before and after. I just hope 1 person reads this whole thread and gets themselves fixed and do not wait years like me.

I had ordered A Perfect Smile veneer online and i put it on over my teeth and it molded to both the front and back of my teeth and my gums so tight that it got stuck! So i had to have oral surgery and he had to pull all six teeth that it was stuck to! So after almost 3 months of wearing this plastic cutting into and hurting my gums , i finally got it removed and had all top teeth removed so i can get a denture. I waited ywo weeks for gums to heal and i go monday to get a denture. I just want to warn anyone whos reading this to never try those perfect smile veneers!

I was on IV sedation when they removed my teeth, other than the awful bruising on my face 2 days after there was very little swelling, I am a month past now and have only removed my denture to clean my mouth. Soon I will visit my dentist to adjust my denture to my adjusting mouth. I know it is scary but it is worth every dime, thank goodness for my jobs benefit package.

Sandra, you aren't taking them out at night? My dentist only had me keep mine in fully for the first 24 hrs and then removed them at night after that. Gives the gums a chance to breathe and helps with the healing process

I am 24 and I am in need of dentures. When I was pregnant my teeth kept breaking off and the decay just spread rapidly. I'm so scared that I will look goofy or they will fall out. Or people will notice. My bottoms are getting effected too so I have to get them all out because I can't deal with any more pain. Ugh I don't know what to do or say. I'm at a loss and get talked down to by my mother saying "I thought I taught you better hygiene than that". When all I ever did was be obsessed with my teeth when they were perfect almost 2 years ago.

I am 35 and have four gorgeous kiddos. My teeth lost so much calcium from my pregnancies. I understand what you are saying completely. I did not want to have dentures, I thought they was for old people lol. I was worried about going without teeth and how I would adapt, etc. However once you start losing the calcium and they get Brit let it is just down hill from there. Last week on Nov 28 I chose to be put under and have everything that was left in my mouth (wasn't much) removed. I woke up with my dentures in my mouth. I cried when I seen how beautiful my smile was again. I hadn't smiled like that in years. My confidence has grown back again and I find myself pretty again. Cannot tell they are not real at all. I chose natural color instead of bright white by the way. They are still white but not blinding bleach white. I say go for it girl. You won't regret it. I waited a little too long to have it done and have been on anitibiotics due to infection but it's still so so much better and less painful than all the abscess teeth I was suffering from almost monthly.

I just had bottoms done. Meth head look before. I had a tooth condition and had a full upper at 24 years old. Getting bottoms I thought my life was over. Was sooooo sad I’m on day 5 and although I can’t eat solid I am doing good with cottage chees, yogurt, potatoes, high protein drinks, etc. I am sooo in love with my smile now. You will be so happy about that. I immediately felt confident when I went to the store or spoke to people. I believe the main thing you s knowing what you are in for, have the correct expectations and you will be ok.

This is day 4 of my bottoms. I know I can’t eat a steak, but I also know my confidence went up 100%. People really do look at you as low class Piece of trash even when they do not know the reason they look the way they did. Dental work is so expensive and I had to save every penny I had to get these. $5,000 later. Remember keep your expectations realistic. Yes it’s different no doubt about it, but for me this is way better for my health, and for my confidence. Good luck.

Shannie when you got your tops did you feel like they were too big for your face like your lips weren't closing around them properly? I just got my tops I'm about to be 28 I have bad teeth because of bad genes and babies I'm supposed to get my bottom and they said I wont think I look so bad when I do those but I feel like I wont be able to open my mouth at all because the teeth are bigger than what my regular teeth were. I also feel like its stretching my lips wider than they are meant to be? I dont know if its cause my gums are still swollen. Mind you it's only been 5 hours since I had this done... oh and I'm still bleeding and they are rubbing really hard where my inner cheeks meet my gums

You probably need an adjustment. They bulged out the front just under my nose. My lip curled under and I "lost" it. When i went in they were able to adjust the gums of the denture which brought the teeth up and inwards. Just explain it to the dentist as best as you can. They appreciated the feedback while doing the fine tuning. The dentist wants your denture to work too. Remember it's a team thing.

My regular Dentist pulled 17 teeth for me, with just local numbing. I did the upper first, went back two weeks later and had the bottoms pulled. Then I saw a different Dentist who was specialized in Dentures. I did get the Immediate Dentures, so I could wear them immediately, however, I would of gotten a better fit on my Dentures, if I had waited to get the Dentures after ALL l my teeth were pulled. It is now 3 years later, and my Dentures are way to big for me, so now I need a new set. Looking back, I probably would done the same thing. The only problem I had, was my gums were VERY sore, and I could not tolerate the Denture Dentist pressing on my Dentures, to get them fit my raw gums. I just about came unglued in the chair!!! So I just wore the upper dentures, and waited for 2 weeks so my gums would heal, then I went back to have the upper and bottom dentures adjusted to fit me better. No one notice I only had upper teeth either, when I shop for groceries. I drank most of my food, for the 2 weeks, then could eat a soft scramble egg. It took a good month, before I could eat regular food, however I am still unable to eat nuts, and I really miss them. Sometimes I can chew a peacon, but I love Spanish peanuts.

I had immediate denture and now when i smile I have a very gummy smile, and my teeth barely show.  When I ask about this the dentist is very vague.  has anyone else experienced this. I look far worse now than i did with my partial, and a few missing teeth.  They can not thin down the denture anymore when the shrinking is gone will my smile show teeth instead of gums?

If your dentures aren't fitting any longer, keep in mind that your dentures rest on gum tissue and your jawbone, which deteriorate and shrink over time. If your dentures used to fit well but now feel loose, visit your dentist. It might be time for an adjustment or a new set of replacement dentures.

Whatever your Dentist has suggested, I'd do, unless you're unhappy... Did your dentist advise you of this in the beginning?  I did NOT run around with NO teeth.. I had 10 Upper's extracted at once with ''Temporary Dentures'' immediately...My dentures worked as a ''patch'', due to bone grafting & stitches....

Do the best you can in the interim...Most people will understand that you'll be getting ''Teeth'' in the near future ...Good Luck... Keep updating us...

Hayley Smith, as Dee asked, were you told that you would not walk out with immediate dentures or perhaps there was a misunderstanding about the next steps? You may need to push back a little. I can't imagine walking around for 3 months when your gums can heal while using a temporary, immediate denture.

Hey Haley, your dentist has basically put you in a treatment plan for only a standard complete upper denture. It's basically 1 denture after some healing. Most people don't take that option and go with an Immediate Complete Upper as this will be inserted immediately after extractions and you will go home with teeth. The 1st method is typically better for a more accurate denture however I notice on here people have options of 2 dentures: a temp while healing then their permanent. Maybe you should look over the Treatment plan you paid for and call you dentist and get this resolved.  Let me know if you have any more questions. Good Luck!

I just had 23 teeth pulled that's including those that were broke and he had to get the roots out. Also have the immediate denture full on bottom partial on top. It was painful but not the same as a toothache. This was on Monday today is Friday and really the pain now is just irritation and getting use to the dentures mostly in he bottom I get my stitches out on Monday and hopefully will be able to chew a little better once I'm able to use something to hold the bottoms down. Anyone have any tips
