Just venting my regrets....
I am 2 months post-full upper extractions. I hate everything about dentures...the look, the feel, the eating, the gagging, etc. I can't stand wearing them. I have total regret, but like so many others out there implants or even the partial implants I could not justify financially.. 17,000$ for 4 implants with dentures versus 1,000 for a full upper.
Unless I'm working or have to go out I do not wear them. I do not look the same, my upper lip protrudes which makes my upper lip practically non existent, and the denture goes up to the base of my nostrils, cannot even blow my nose normally. My dentist tells me I'll get use to it, but I don't look the same, so I don't want to get use to that look. I'm not even talking about the teeth, just the gum. Talking about the teeth--I can live with and get use to that look.
Again I am venting because I hate it and am struggling with sadness bordering depression. Please.. anyone reading this take care of your natural teeth as best you can. Don't make a hasty decision. (I actually thought this through for months but still no better options)

You need to give them time. I’m only 3 weeks with my uppers and my dentist told me that I’ll be in her office a lot for adjustments and in 5-6 months, they’ll do the realignment that will really help and fit much better.

I went to Affordable Dentures and Implants not sure if that is the same thing, but thus far my experience is pretty good. I was able to heal abit faster than norm or rather am healing abit faster than norm as I have been taking tumeric, multi vitamins, supplements and forcing myself to use the dentures. After a couple days I no longer needed the pain pills and its been one week for me with the dentures. It is abit daunting and depressing thinking of having to loose unhealthy teeth and using gross paste amix the wonderment of if everyone looking at me knows by how I look that these are dentures. We play phychological mind games with ourselves- it is a new day and everything will be alright, it just takes time my friend.

Lisa, I was in a similar situation. But I was not going too go without teeth no where. I work at the front desk around lots of people at a Bank . I was determined to wear my teeth and learn how to eat and speak with them; even my supervisor notice the difference in my look and asked me did i do something different with my teeth? I said yes i have Veneers. The reason I said that was because it helped me to get through all the questions my co-workers were going to asks along with other people were going to ask me. I'm now. 9 months in before i get my perms and now my immediates look so natural on me my immediates alway fit me well so i didn't have a problem with my fit. So what im trying to said is you will get use to them and they will look just like your natural teeth it will adjust to your mouth and face.

Lisa, I know exactly how you feel as I had all my remaining teeth extracted last July 18, 2018, and the first few months were pure hell. The adjustment to eating and being natural takes patience and lots of time. BUT, you must wear your teeth every waking moment right now, just sleep without them. The urge to not have them to be comfortable is hard to resist. You need family and friends who work with you and insist you have your teeth in from waking up to sleep time. You have to eat, talk, laugh, kiss, dance, run, sing, rest, watch TV, bowl, etc., with your teeth in. Think of this as having an amputated limb and wearing artificial limbs. This is the same thing except no one knows you have them. It is normal to be self conscious right now but you have to overcome it. It has been eight months for me and I forget I have false teeth and can eat pretty much everything now. Yes, you cannot bite into an apple yet as your incisors do not have the pounds per square inch pressure like natural teeth but you should be able to do everything else very soon. I just had pepper beef and egg rolls and crab puffs for lunch and bit them all off with my incisors. People have no idea I have false teeth, very few people know I have false teeth. Use a good adhesive, if needed, and carry a small tube of adhesive with you for emergencies like midday fixing of moving dentures. Good luck with everything and please tell us here how you are evolving. We have all been there and are your denture family.

Hi Lisa, I also went to Affordable Dentures to get mine as well. I am almost three months post extractions, and I completely understand how you are feeling right now. Do not be afraid to put your foot down with them. They told you that you will get used to it having go up to the base of your nostrils?! That is ridiculous! You need to tell them that you are paying for a service to be provided, and want it done properly. I was having a similar issue with the top going up so high, but they gave me an adjustment which helped. You know when something does not feel right, and you need to express those concerns. All they have to do, is shave some of the top off for you and it will make a huge difference (and takes less than 15 mins). It just sounds like they are trying to be lazy. The more adjustments you get, the better they start to look. They get looser the more adjustments you get, just a heads up! My tops finally look pretty normal. The bottoms however, it looks like I have gauze or something in my bottom lip and it drives me crazy. And keep in mind this is the worse they are going to look, it just has to be (that is what I keep telling myself) we just have to get through this stretch and stay positive! Good vibes out, good vibes in! I hope things get better for you soon <3

Thanks so much for your words. I actually was just there yesterday and they did exactly that....it's much better. In about two weeks or so they will take off more and a possible new reline. I may actually have to go through some bone removal (currently have about 4 pieces poking through) unless they come out on they're own. September is the time frame when I can get a permanent. I guess until then I strive to get these to the point of being as happy as I can with acrylic acting as teeth....lol....

I’m so happy that they were able to do that for you! And remember, as soon as they start to get more uncomfortable than usual, you can schedule an adjustment anytime as needed. Keep us updated on your progress <3
