Do you ever get used to the upper plastic?

I am 7 days post full upper extractions and was wondering if you do eventually get used to the feeling of all that plastic in your upper mouth? My dentist has been amazing with my adjustments, I have already had 5 and he is happy to see me, on a if and when basis.  I have maintained a really positive attitude through out this denture journey, which has helped me and my family immensely to accept, that my plastic munchies are now part of me.  I am already slowly introducing more solid food into my diet which is a god send.  But I am just hoping that one day, I will not have constant conscious thoughts of having that upper plastic.  Also is it normal, to feel fluids (eg milk, smoothies), behind the upper front dentures?  :-)

Thanks for your reply.  I hope that one day you might get used to it.  I'm just going to take one day at a time with it.  Day 8 for me now, and I have just tried adhesive powder for the first time for a better seal.  It already makes the upper plate feels better, not so loose, so hopefully........................... :-)

Good. Luck with the adhesive i've notice that with adhesive on my lowers the fit is great and on my uppers just a little is needed. Also I'm going through a lot of shrinkage I'm hoping by May i can get my permenant.

I'm also looking forward to getting permanents when all my healing has done.  Such early days yet.  So great to be able to share with others on this forum, who know what you are going through.  Unless you are a denture wearer, others don't have a clue what you have to go through mentally and physically trying to cope with them.  All they see is a beautiful smile, they don't see what is happening for us, behind that smile.

Thank you for this.  As of Friday, I will be 3 weeks in.  Pain is virtually gone, shrinkage is happening.  Luckily, I didn't have any  molars extracted so was able to "glue" the bottom in immediately.  Now having to put the fixative in 3 places for the top. But, when I eat, the bulk of both pieces is really annoying.  Do you get used to that in time?

Hi Lynn,  I only have an upper and its now 18 weeks for me.  LOL, I still count the weeks down.  Sorry I cant comment on both pieces.  For my upper, I swear by SECURE adhesive which you can get off Amazon.  If you haven't had your soft liners done for the shrinkage yet, I can also recommend Seabond Wafers for the uppers.  I don't use Seabond now, as the wafer won't fit very well with the soft liner in the denture.  I'll be honest, I am used to the upper plastic, but I know it is there constantly and by the evening, it really irritates me.  All the plastic in my mouth, dries it out and my lips.  But having said that, I can eat what ever I want (cut in small pieces of course) and I am no longer ashamed of my teeth.  I'm hoping the permanents will be a snugger fit when I get them :-)
