Yea not sure why but I've noticed here that dentists were never really sociable. Maybe because they work in mouths all day. The ones in my town seem to be getting better and more laid back.

That makes sense re the possible autocorrect, Zipity. And if that's the case:
Josie: assuming Zipity's theory is accurate, acceptance of what?

Also, I've heard worms have quite a bit of protein, but I don't think I could chew them with either my toothless gums or the fake things, so I'm not sure if it would be prudent to open a can unless you think you can finish off a can by yourself. Wait...maybe the leftovers can be refrigerated? Oh..wait yet again...perhaps you are saying you don't want to have a cup of coffee or 'break bread' with me? Dog, I'm so confused.......

: )

Okay guys, help me here. I have been leaving my dentures in all the time except for rinsing and cleaning, I'm I holding up the healing process of my gums by doing that? It feels better when they are in. I want to help the healing process not hinder it

I left mine in continually for 10 days, but for when I was rinsing, brushing, soaking or at the dentist.  I had some stitches rip on the left side so we had and are still  watching that side a bit.  I have been told to continue doing exactly as I have been the first week as it was very effective.  I did talk to him about the fact that I left them out the second Saturday night (day 10) and he did say if I wanted a break by all means take one, but that the denture itself was holding the left side nicely and I have great healing going on.

I too prefer mine in.  I haven't quite decided if I am going to be a person who wears theirs all the time or if I will remove them for X amount of hours per day.  There are just so many contradicting stories about the bone loss/ blood flow, etc.  A lot of people do wear theirs constantly, have done so for years and are happy with that choice.  I just don't know enough about it yet to make the decision for me.  I am speaking with my dentist about it on Monday when I go for my healing check.  I can tell by the way things are going I will get the all clear and I'll soon have to figure out how I am going to handle everything.

I will be interested to hear what your practitioner has to say on the subject.

Sandy what I meant was that some of your posts have been negative and obviously you are having a horrible experience and I wish you weren't. I don't know you or can see you physically to see your extractions and dentures. Maybe some positivity may help and you will get some results quickly from somebody. Preferably your dentist that treated you. I didn't want to "open a can of worms" by saying you're being negative because I'm not going through what you are. And that was a type error above. Eh!

Sounds like I should have went to you! I noticed that were they said was a blood clot, there a hard white piece sticking out that has a bump over it. Is that my bone or a tooth that he forgot?

It could be a piece of bone. They float around and hopefully come out on their own, but you can ask the dentist to remove it if it's messing with you.  It's appalling that they don't tell you these things.

I know, I have learned a lot from here! I guess I don't pay them to tell me about what they are doing they just do it and send you on your way! I got brave enough and ate I piece of bread, man it felt good to eat something that was liquid! lol. Hopefully after my appointment the 28th I will be able to wear my dentures and go out in public and enjoy my kids instead of being a hermit and hidden at work.

Does anyone regret getting dentures? Feels like my life is turned for the worse after this. I'm unable to sit and eat with my family, no going out on dates, it's like my life is put on hold all because of no teeth! Really makes you think of how important they are

It sounds like it might be nerve related? Does it go up from your jaw into your ear area?

I have been told by two different dentists dry socket isn't a concern after the 3rd day, which I guess / took into consideration myself that could be day 4 depending on if a person counted extraction day as day 1.

When I had dry socket the pain was local to the extraction site & it hurt and ached in a way words cannot describe.  If you have to ask if it's dry socket, I would say most likely it's not. I had never had it prior and knew without a doubt when I felt what I felt exactly what is was.

Most dentists have an emergency answering service where they will call you back.  I know in this area we now have medical facilities where you can go in and just pay your regular co-pay instead of the emergency co-pay some of the places charge.  Also many of the larger chain drug stores have an in-house medical clinic and those are regular co-pay charges as well. With it being Friday/ through the weekend you may have to see someone you wouldn't normally see to get some help with this.

I hope you feel better soon.
