its horrible, especially when you have all your teeth pulled out. it happened to me in one day, all my teeth pulled and the denture put on the open gums, then i went to the hospital to recover for a week, cedars sanai, in los angeles. i was twenty something years old.

I just had 25+ teeth pulled 6 days ago and they would only numb me. I was able to wear dentures for 2 days and had to take them out due to the multiple blisters in my mouth from the dentures rubbing. I have been unable to eat anything and even the water and ensure I am able to get down hurts so bad it can bring tears to my eyes. On top of it the dentist only gave me 3 days of pain meds and no antibiotics. I wonder how long before I am even able to eat mashed potatoes.

I had 17 teeth pulled 4 days ago I had Valium and nitrous oxide. I was bleeding heavily and had sutures. I went home with dentures in my mouth, still bleeding, pain medication and antibiotic. Huge bruise on jaw line. I put ice pack on face and will see dentist tomorrow. Still in pain and painful to put dentures in my mouth. I paid cash. See image.

Bruises always look horrible! But it was swollen in that area and I held ice to it night and day. I have a slight bruise now and refused to go to the dentist when I should have. I eventually went in yesterday and did not want to wear the torture devices any more. But with some adjustment the dentures are much better. Gums are still tender. Eating scrambled eggs, smoothies, bananas, applesauce and ice cream.

Thanks Fixodent. I'm much improved but not quite ready to use the new choppers. There is definitely a learning curve and markedly better looking than old teeth.

Amen.. having all teeth pulled is psychological a trama..but if in pain or infected the relief was awrsome..losing natural teeth is such a stigma..we aren't dirty unhygenic people..acid gum disease heredity substance abuse eating disorders anxiety disorders all cause permanent damage to teeth..even nutrition defiency..it still major insecurity but I can eat ice and got food..overall health better that "toxic feeling gone" Been dating same man for over year..he does not even know..so stay tough health over vanity..we are all beautiful

I just had mine done Thursday 12/7/2017 - I opted for the denture implants - regular implants were quoted at 30,000.00 which I do not have - I am the biggest chicken ever and I just knew I had to do something - Went to my regular dentist here in Florida and he assessed me and sent me to an oral Surgeon in Tampa- We set the date - My appointment was for 9 am - by 10:02 I was at the desk to sign out - WOW - I had to just have local anesthesia as I can not get general (which is putting you totally out) I could hear a little pulling and such but was truly not horrible - Today I had to take them out myself and was scared to death - afraid of swelling and all - (God forbid my gums swelled and I could not reinstall) but all was well and did not see any blood - in fact - never saw any blood at all - I could not believe how well my smile looked immediately after - drove myself home -no problems - I left my house at 8:20 am and returned home at 10:32 - no pain seriously!

Robin I'm in the same boat. Just starting to look into it. I had just learned about denture implants. I wish I could afford the single implants but it's not an option. Can I ask ball park of cost you paid all said and done? How long were you in pain? Thank you

I’m going the full mouth implant route with 11 implants and full upper and lowers screwed in. I’m halfway through the process. They set the lower implants and upper bone grafts at the time of my full mouth extraction (28 teeth). They will so another surgery to implant the upper 6 posts when they determine that the upper grafts have grown in. I think the cost depends somewhat on your location. Unfortunately, I live in a really pricey area and there aren’t that many dentists who will do the whole process start to finish. I chose to go to the closest one because I don’t like screwing around driving around. As someone else here suggested, it is like putting a new BMW in your mouth. I paid the whole thing up front by putting a significant dent in my 401K. I decided on the spot to just do it and never think about it again because I’m not the kind of person who likes to spend money. But the effect my teeth were having on my life, both mental and physical, allowed me to just do it. I can’t stand my immediate dentures so I just never wear them unless I have to go out. I’m being a hermit during this 6 month process.

I am so scared I keep crying all the stories I'm hearing about getting teeth pulled all out at once in stories I'm hearing that gingers are the worst are there ways around with getting help to pay to pay for four on one
And to get to 4 on ones do you have to have your gums and Bone healthy
If not then you have to do dentures right and then I heard after 9 months to a year you can get them on top of the dentures

It dont hurt stop being scared my aunt had to have all them pulled out and get full upper dentures and full bottom dentures and she says it didn't hurt at all

Now you might want to look into this it's against the law to not have teeth so the government must pay for one full upper denture and one full bottom denture in your lifetime yes i swear to god my government assistance program in Philadelphia PA is going to pay for all my teeth to be extracted and going to pay for the full upper dentures and full bottom dentures not one pennies coming out of my pocket I'm so excited and so happy so whatever state you are I would look into that

Susan, if you're in that much pain, you should call the dentist and let them know. At this point you should not have that much pain. Something must be going on. Please call the dentist.

I've had my denture (top only) for about 3 years and it hurts everyday it's a piece of plastic that's hitting into your skin the roof of your mouth and it's not natural of course it's not going to be comfortable unless you can get soft reline lines quite often to cushion it but I can't sew My Heart's always. I was not in a financial position to get dental implants so this is what I'm stuck with either that or no top teeth.

Wow.  I had no pain because my dentist used SocketGel.It is a brand to help prevent dry sockets and it works well.  I am in Tallahassee but went just over the GA line for my work with a great dentist,  Only had one set the entire time and pit them in right away.  I did have to go actually for four visits.  I already was missing about ten teeth.  But went fast.  I also was given Haldol the night before and about thirty minutes before procedure to help calm me down. I am sorry that some of these folds are in such pain.  Hope it gets better!!!!

I am THE BIGGEST BABY when it comes to Dentists..I just had my 13 upper teeth pulled this past tues and my dentures put right in....I only had gas and novicaine and it was AWESOME! It was not even CLOSE to what I thought, yeah that day and the next sucked, but by the 3rd day MUCH better....don't be afraid..it is the end result that is the 'carrot' to keep in front of you....it is all in the Dentist and the Oral Surgeon you pick....mine where AWESOME and now I look forward to my visits and I still have more work to do on my teeth....don't be afraid! I didn't have to go to the hospital or have ANYONE with me...I went to the oral surgeons office by myself, drove myself home...and took NO PAIN medication other than Extra Strength Tylenol PM. All people are different, that is true....but I don't regret a THING!

Hi Corbie, There are all kinds of good and bad stories. Everything will be ok. You have nothing to fear but wasted fear itself. I just went through this 16 days ago and I wish I hadn't wasted so much worry and fear. Lots of people are here to pray and help you through this. The pain is indeed manageable as long as you take your pain pill before the pain sets in until the end of the prescription . Then faithfully do your salt water rinses. I use sea salt myself.
Bottom line is face one day at a time and keep good vibes going.

I just had mine done yesterday and I'm not going to lie I read all the stories online and it's true everybody is different. To me the worst pain of all was getting the needles with the Novocaine. That was excruciating and I started crying and shaking. I bled a lot that night but if you take the ibuprofen / Tylenol combo that they tell you to the pain is very minimal. And also make sure that you rinse throughout the day. I just took them out for the first time after 24 hours and it was a little painful putting them back in but overall the worst part is just trying to get used to that plate in your mouth. All in all I'm glad I had it done. You going to be okay.

In April I had top teeth pulled and some of bottom ones. It wasn't that bad, not bad as I thought. I just couldn't stand the feeling and jerking, gave me the creeps! My dentist gave me pain medication for afterwards but only took a few because I really didn't have much pain. I do miss not having my teeth, and wished I would have tried some how to keep them but it was cheaper for dentures. The worse problem I have with them is not having teeth when I wake up in the morning.

I was put to sleep, had my teeth pulled and when I woke up the temporary denture was already in my mouth. My ride was waiting to take me home because I was still woozy and I went home and slept. I thinkI experienced more discomfort than pain because 1) this temporary denturewas new tomy mouth 2) Iate soft food and ice cream or shakes as that freezes your gums.

Medicaid does not cover dental procedures in adults age 19 and older. My dentist numbed my gums top and bottom for the tooth extractions, did not put me to sleep but every dentist is different. You need to ask these questions when you go for your consultation. Also ask what payment methods are accepted. My dentist required cash at the time of service or he accepted major credit cards or Care Credit which is a credit card specifically for dental services only. You need to ask what your total cost will be with any extractions and the cost of the dentures themselves, also ask if alignments and relines are included in that cost. Hope this helps.

Care credit can be used at any medical center that takes it. Even can use it at the vet. Ive had my foot surgeries done with care credit my kids pediatric check ups our teeth. And our dogs going to the vet!!!! Great for those who dont have insurance. And medicaid does cover it under certain circumstances :)

Medicaid paid all but 600 of mine and I just had 15 teeth on top pulled at 9am. I was sedated thru an IV and my dentures were in my mouth when I woke up. I still have some bleeding but I don't feel any pain at all.. I was expecting to tho. I had about 10 panic attacks prior to today thinking about how much pain I'd be in especially having lupus and fibro as well, but honestly my dentist was amazing. He had them ALL out in 45 mins and it's been 7 hours and still no pain.

I also have lupus and because of dry mouth and many infections all of my teeth will be remove. If I didn’t agree to have them removed I would continue to get abscess and 1 at a time pulled. I go the 29 this month. I have PTSD so work hard on not panicking and still in shock. I pray for peace and for it to be fast.

I dont have dentures, but i really want them. I heard so many negative about the pain from the dentures. I want to get as many opinion that i could get. I don't have a denture but I want to get dentures so bad, but I cannot afford them. I don't have dental insurance, I looked dental plans out there. Almost all plans i saw that every tooth they pull....is an additional cost other than the actual denture. Is that true..? If you get dentures, do they give you a temporary denture before you get the actual denture.

An update on my denture experience: I'm going in 2 days for my denture reline. After the first week of getting those 17 extractions and my dentures fitted the same day, the pain eased to almost no pain at all. I went back for an adjustment and that eliminated all pain. Now my dentures are quite comfortable and I barely know they're in. Learning to eat with them is an ongoing process, but I am thrilled with my new smile. I don't regret getting them, not even for a moment.

That's so wonderful, Angie! I'm glad to hear that your denture experience is going well.

Eating with dentures takes some time to get used to, but one of the best tricks I can offer is to chew small bits of food on both sides of the back of your mouth. This helps to even some of the pressure. We also have an article with some other tips that you may find useful: http://www.dentureliving.com/new-to-dentures/denture-articles/eating-with-confidence

Hang in there! I'm sure that new smile of yours is beautiful :)

Hi Angie, I like this website I was looking for a website like this to say how people are feeling about their new dentures. I had my top teeth pulled on Thursday May 14th 2015 and had immediate dentures put in I am trying to get used to them I will wear them for a little while then take them out my gums are still a little sore, I know it makes a difference with a person's smile it also changes your appearance too. My son saw me on skype and said he liked them and my smile it makes you feel better about yourself it is just taking me a little longer to get used yo it. I am still eating soft foods, how does a person get used to eating normal again? It is just new to me and will take some time to get used to. It is a big adjustment. Anyway, you have a great rest of your weekend and week.

It's so great to hear from people about their experiences.  I had all my teeth removed on May 12th 2015 and had dentures put in immediately.  I am still not able to eat any food.  I am only able to drink soup and cannot leave my dentures in for too long before they are irritating my gums.  All in all, my gums are healing well and I go in for a soft realignment on Thursday.  I am hoping this will make them fit a little better and with the help of fixodent or the like I can start to learn and eat some soft food.

I had mine done Dec. 3,2015. I get my permanent dentures in August. It was uncomfortable the first couple of days. If I had sore spots my dentist adjusted them and they'd be fine. I had 28 teeth pulled with 9 complex extractions. Love my new smile & can eat just about anything. Be patient with yourself. You have to learn how to eat & talk with them but I promise you will.

My denture still hurts. I had a hard reline on May 2 and I had one adjustment so far and I'm too nervous to get another one because I'm afraid I'll have to go back to using that horrible adhesive. So I'm just suffering with the pain and using Benzodent. I guess some people can get used to this foreign plastic object in their mouth's I cannot. .

I can understand your not liking the adhesive, but it helps provide a cushion between your dentures & gums. I couldn't even begin to eat what I do without it. I got my dentures Dec.3,2015. I've had them relined twice. I eat steak ,nuts, whatever I want. You do get used to adhesive.

I'm going to affordable dentures on Mon morning and getting 30 teeth pulled all at once. It is $90 per tooth they extract. They will give me temporary dentures to wear for about 3-6 months until the gums heal and then I will get my permanemt, better fitting dentures. I also got the added option recalled "snap secure" where they drill 3 little pin holes in my upper gum and 3 in the lower and install a ball joint that the dentures will snap onto. These types of dentures are considered implants but they are much much less expensive. I went with affordable dentures because ALL THEY DO is dentures so they HAVE to be good at it, or at least that's my philosophy. The cost of the whole thing includes the extraction of 30 teeth, temporary denture, permanent denture, resizing months down the road after the gums completely heal and laughing had and is just under $5000

I dont have dentures but I want to get them but I cannot afford them., I looked dental plans out there. Almost all plans i saw that every tooth they pull....is an additional cost other than the actual denture. Is that true..? If you get dentures, do they give you a temporary denture before you get the actual denture.

Try going to a dental school... that's what i did as the cost is roughly 1/3-1/2 what a private dentist charges, and they even have financing options. Would not have been able to afford it otherwise.

Thanks for sharing your suggestion, Andy! Many dental schools have low-cost denture programs, as do some state dental boards for others who may be looking.

I think it depends on which dentist you go to...My top dentures cost 1450 and my bottom dentures the same, 1450...it cost me about 4,500 to have my teeth top and bottom pulled...it's expensive but I am happy with them, they look really lovely and as an update, nearly 3 weeks in and I am able to eat soft food.  My gums just in one spot are still a little sore, but I can wear my dentures for about 5 or 6 hours at a time now before I feel like I need to take them out.  Small steps, day by day things are getting better.

Just had 28 teeth pulled 5 days ago and immediate dentures put in. I have Medicaid and went to affordable dentures. All I had to pay was a $3 copay. They gave me anxiety medicine to take an hour before my appointment. When I got there they just did a lot of numbing shots. I was scared to death but did not feel any pain at all, just a little pressure. He had all my teeth out in less than 5 minutes. They put my immediate denture in for me. I didn't hurt the first few days but now I'm very uncomfortable. I'm only 24 so I'm scared to take them out. Do you think that is why I am so sore? I get my stitches taken out Thursday and they will do my first adjustment. So happy overall. I have never taken so many selfies.

Ashley: I had a full upper put in on March 8, and I kept them in only until the bleeding stopped - about 24 hours. Those were the dentist's instructions. Since then I wear them about 12 hours each and soak them at night. I know some wear their dentures almost all the time, but I don't.

I had the same issues you do the first week. Four salt water rinses a day helped accelerate the healing, and after about 10 days I started brushing my gums with a soft tooth brush. You will not believe how good that feels. But go slow.

Do not eat anything that causes pain. Progress gradually to more difficult foods, and learn to use your tongue to help you chew. Also learn to chew on both sides of your mouth.

Your dentist can help you with 2 things that caused me the most pain: leukoplakia and emerging bone fragments. Leukoplakia sounds bad, but it's not serious. It does cause pain where the denture rubs against the gum, and you can see white spots on your gums. A dentist can make minor adjustments to your denture to help relieve the pain.

The dentist can also help with the bone fragments that cause hot spots from time to time. You can actually feel them, and I've gotten pretty good at getting them out myself.

You should find after about 2 weeks that the pain pretty much goes away. What we all have to do is learn that we have lost an important body part, adapt to it and move forward. I know I did the right thing, despite all the pain, and you did, too. You look absolutely terrific.

The people on this chat understand what you are going through, and they will help. You have our best wishes as you work your way through this. You are not alone. Joseph

Thank you for that reply. It has also helped me. I am thinking of getting dentures too, my partial is ok but other teeth look horrible. I have serious cavities with most of my top teeth. I think I can handle the pain because I don't mind the dentist. Normally don't even take the painkillers when I have something done. Only extra strength Tylenol myself. I have seriously thought of doing this for the last 5 years and now have the money to do it. I will be glad when I can smile and not have to worry about it. Thanks again.

I have had my immediate denture for a month now and i am totally happy. i only have a upper. i had them all removed at once and had very little pain. as i read this message board it is obvious to me that everyone is different. i have insurance that paid for the dentures but every tooth removed cost extra.and thank god it was 80% covered as well. i can only give you my opinion about my experience, and it was not a bad one. my upper denture looks exactly like my natural teeth and i feel very confident when i smile. i am 51 years old. my bottom teeth are in great shapeand i plan to keep them that way. also after your teeth are pulled they do incert an immediate denture if thats what you want. or you can wait until your gums heal and then get them. i say no to that...i dont ever want to be without my BEAUTIFUL TEETH.. to me they are very much my real teeth. iwish you all the best and thatyou have apositive experience with your new smile. GOD BLESS.

Hi I was in the same boat you are in now I am just as chicken as you are now I did have encouragement from my Dad and Mother-in-law and I also said a prayer to God that he would not let me be afraid and would watch over me while I was having it done and I am not Catholic my husband is but my Mother-in-law told me to take a rosary that helped me holding it. I also like my dentist too he is really gentle and understanding a really good Dentist. So that makes a difference too, what kind of Dentist you have. He gave me several shots and numbed it up really good at first I was nervous but I had teeth pulled out already with him so it was just anxiety mainly If I can get through it I am sure you will do fine also, when it comes to Dentist I used to be real skittish of them I had a bad experience with one when I was 12 or 13teen I had a bad Family Dentist my Dad didn't like him too much either he wasn't a good one, but I found a real good one and I will only let him take care of my teeth. I hope you decide to get your teeth done, I think you will do just fine just be brave like me and that is saying a lot for me because I am a chicken when comes to my teeth so if I can do it you can too. Best of Luck, Lisa I hope this helps you.

I took a valium 45 min before going i was fine. Put my head set in with music and let her do her job. She tapped me 30 minuted later saying where done. Was awake only got needle to num but fwlt nothing but little pressure. Later on little pain and swollen but that's because you just gotbteeth ripped out your jaw. Had 8 done today other last year it takes few days and you won't feel a thing. Can't wait to get my denture put in 3 weeks from now. Then doing my bottoms. In the long run the teeth pain is worse then this. If you can deal with teeth pain this is a walk in the park. Take ib 800mg every 8 hours. For a few days and you will be good as new soon

I had 17 teeth extracted and dentures made (upper and lowers) on April 6, 2010 and I have very little pain on Apr. 10. I am already eating some hard foods carefully. Sexton Dental in Florence S.C. extracted the teeth and made tempory dentures. It was only $675.00 for upper and lower temp. dentures. There website is www.sextondental.net

When I went in to have my teeth extracted I was real nervous now that it is over, I took it very well went in and was brave and I have had 2 or 3 teeth pulled with this Dentist so I trusted him to do all work on my teeth. Hope you have a great week. Now just need to get used to wearing my new teeth will take some time but will get used to them.

The best thing I can think of that I done is just pick a day and go as fast as you can and get it over with. Just think how much better you will be when it is done and over with. Then you start the healing and it will be on the road to everything getting better for you. It does hurt but it will be better than haveing a tooth hurting or them poisoning your body. Hope it goes good for you it has been a month for me and I already know it was the smartest thing I have done.

When I was sitting waiting for the extractions, which I wasn't happy about being a woman, I recalled a ruined vacation due to a dental abscess. Then I recalled all the other ruined occasions from abscesses, broken fillings, and all of the money spent on trying to look 1/2-way human and not being satisfied with my smile ever! I just got my lowers done Monday 5/10, and am adjusting. It is a little uncomfortable, but there's nothing quite like the pain of healing versus abscess pain! At least with denture discomfort you can take Motrin or Tylenol and actually feel better, but not so easy to do with an abscess that requires antibiotics, root canal, and all the other trappings of it. I am not sorry that I lost those teeth; they were not good to me, and any pain adjusting to dentures is far less severe than what toothaches were doing to my life.

The simple answer is "Yes", but do you include extractions as "Getting Dentures". Simply getting impressions done so thedentures can be made will hurt quite a bit, because it involves Xrays (the film tabs hurt) and it involves quite a bit of hardware put in your mouth and taken out again. All of this is with no anesthetic, because it's not sever enough to warrant any, but it hurts (bearably) nonetheless.
If you're going to have teeth extracted, that's when "Getting Dentures" means REAL pain. Not necessarily while they're being pulled (God Bless Novocaine) but starting several hours afterwards, expect plenty of miserable pain, and expect the pain to outlast the pain pills you'll no-doubt be given.
For about two weeks, the pain will be barely bearable, especially if they put in "Immediate Dentures", which provide lots of extra irritation and pain.
But supposedly immediate dentures on the day of extraction not only gives you teeth (VERY Handy) instead of being without any for a couple of weeks, but they are supposed to makeyour gums shape somewhat to dentures during the healing process, giving you some long-termbenefit in fit of later dentures.
So yes, "Getting Dentures" hurts, almost all phases of it hurts, some more than others. Expect to live in so much pain for 30-60 days that you'll lose weight. I dropped over20 pounds in 5 months.
Not a bad thing, in my case, but a pretty miserable way for it happen.

You don't say where you live, but if there's a Dental School near enough to make it worth your while, that's a way to get things done with less expense.
Everything about getting dentures hurts, except the actual extractions. You only have the pain of the anesthetic shots there. The pain comes in afterwards. I didn't get pain pills that were strong enough, so they pretty much took the edge off the pain, but it was still plenty to give me two nights of almost no sleep.
800mg of Motrin is equivalent to one of the Hydrocodone pills, and that helped me a lot. The single overdose shouldn't hurt you, butthere's a limit on how much Ibuprophen you can take in 24 hours, and if you take 800mg (4 pills) every six hours every day for a week, you might have some kidney or liver damage (I forget which).
I was told repeatedly to wear my temporary dentures as much as possible, and of course they hurt a lot when they were in. It took about a week for that to slack off significantly, and another week before I could say that the pain was a constant irritation, but not severe unless I tried to bite down on something or chew something.
You're going to feel strange trying to eat a hamburger with a knife & fork, but that's what it will take to get hamburgers eaten for quite a while. Pizza too, since you'll probably be able to chew things long before you can bite things off (like a piece of pizza).
Yes, you get Temporary, or Immediate dentures as soon as your teeth are all out. They take impressions a week or two before teeth begin to come out and make temporary dentures from them.So you have temporary dentures sitting on the counter before the dentist ever starts on the first extraction.
Don't count on being able to really EAT much anything with them... my dentist kept referring to them as "Party Teeth".
They make you look and speak fairly normally while your gums are healing and and the swelling is going down, but really aren't much good for eating.
Until you have NO teeth in your mouth, you don't fully appreciate how valuable they were for eating. That's when you find out that with no teeth, your gums can't reallyeven be made to touch each other except in the very front.
It turns out that you do most of your eating by chewing, not biting. You're pretty much on soup, peanut butter, and oatmeal when your dentures aren't in.

The dentist who did this to you should have his license revoked, so he can't do it to anyone else. That is not the way we are taught to do "immediate" dentures.
We learn that we must remove your back teeth first, and allow the gums and bone to heal completely. If we don't do it this way, your dentures will be falling out of your mouth in just a couple of weeks. Complete healing takes about 12 weeks. If we it this way, your dentures will have a strong firm ridge to sit on when we deliver your dentures. They will also stay in much better.
After your back gums have healed, we make impressions of your remaining teeth and the back ridges. From this, we can make your dentures. Once your dentures are finished, we only have to remove the remaining six top and six bottom teeth, and seat your dentures. The dentures have a strong, firm back ridge to keep them in, and for them to rest on while the relatively small ares if the front heal.
As the bone heals from extractions it shrinks a lot. So, after your gums heal in front, we have to refit (reline) the front of the dentures
This is the way we were taught to make "immediate dentures in dental school. Immediate dentures are a wonderful service. I have done these hundreds of times, and the next day when my patients come in for their follow-up appointment, they are smiling and thrilled with their smiles.
Unfortunately, I am now retired and no longer get the thrill of seeing these beautiful smiles.

My husband & I went to Mexico.. I already had an upper.. for many years. I had 6 lower teeth left with a bridge. The dentist was Wonderful she pulled the 6 lower teeth. The next morning I was in having the new top and bottom dentures put in. Like someone else said.. the pain is less than having tooth aches, infections, rootcanals.
I am adjusting to the bottom denture, I have been eating soft food..Chicken, noodles, eggs, even some crackers and chips. It takes a little practice, take smaller bites.. chew well, learn to use your tongue.
Your tongue an muscles in your mouth will try to push out the denture (especially the bottom one). so try to relax your jaw, practice saying the alphabet . Your tongue will shrink some.. since it had more space before you had the dentures in. It takes pactience and practice, but now I can smile again .:)

You sound like me.  I was unlike most people because my teeth were so bad I was unable to chew and eat most foods so dentures were an bigger improvement than for most people.  My denturist was a realist saying that you only get about 20% of your real teeth except in my case it would be a bigger improvement as mine were so bad.  I can chew things I haven't been able to chew for years. I have partials on the bottom as we could save some teeth there. I am very happy only wish I could afford implants! I get to smile again which is nice.  Good luck to you -- you will be happy I know it!

My story is somewhat different than yours. I have had over 30 oral surgeries over as many years. I had a complete bridge on top, and a 2/3 bridge on the bottom put in when I was 27. I can say that this pain was no worse or better than any of those surgeries. In other words, it is manageable, and more uncomfortable than actually painful.
If you have nitrous oxide given to you, they will increase the dose if you ask, and when they anticipate a greater level of pain for you, they increase it. After, that, take your pills, and expect to sleep for a day or two.The pain IS manageable. It is nothing to be afraid of.
I just had all that expensive bridgework removed. My perio disease had progressed to the point that it could no longer be maintained. I lost 12 more, leaving me 4 of my own. They apparantly help- on the bottom, which can be a difficult denture to manage.
If you have severe dental problems, it is something that will probably be with you for a lifetime. I hope to be able to make dentures last for my remaining 30 or so years.
The very best of luck to you. You can do this. Life is far better at the other end.

2500.00 isn't all bad, even with dental ins. having my teeth pulled cost a little over 7000.00 and my upper and lower dentures cost over 5000.00, I really don't know why the dentures cost so much, I have family in NB and PA who have dentures and they cost less than 1000.00 for a full set. some say it's because I live in Alaska and everything cost more! good luck in getting the money, I will have my dentures at the end of this month and I can't wait, I know it will be a learning process adjusting to them, but I really miss not be able to chew!!!

It depends, each person tolerates pain differently. It also depends where you get your procedure done. Do your research, even if you have sit in the waiting room as I did and talk to others who had the same procedure. I had my procedure done at Affordable Dentures on my 60th birthday. I decided that I would give myself the best birthday present I could wish for, a new smile. I was tired of not being able to smile for pictures, avoiding going places where I'd have to deal with talking with the public, and even passing up certain jobs.
I was given a sedative to take 1 hour prior to arriving for my procedure. Not being used to taking medication, I fell asleep while the dentist was pulling out my lower teeth. After having 25 teeth removed ( 15 difficult) I was awakened by his assistant who told me that everything was over. I had my new temporary dentures and was ready to be taken home ( still unsteady). I experienced some bleeding for the next 24 hours and pain for approximately 1 week.
My advice would be to leave the dentures in for the first 24- 48 hours. Make sure to take all your antibiotics and pain medication as needed. Start off with soft foods, smoothies, and soup until you can gradually eat foods that have more substance. As any sore spots develop, see your doctor for adjustments or soft realigns. The swelling will continue to go down, and you'll see it was all worth it every time you smile with confidence the way I can now. I still have a long way to go and yes, I do get frustrated, but would I do it all over again? Absolutely !!! It takes time, patience, will power, and always prayers.
