Eating and cleaning when using adhesive

Now that I can actually eat a little I have a question. I’ve heard you should remove your denture and clean after every meal. Since I’m using adhesive, it’s in there pretty good. Should I pry it loose after I eat, clean it, then use adhesive and put it back in? Should I do this every time, once a day? Without adhesive it’s pretty easy to take it out. Right now it’s not so simple.

I don't take mine out after eating. I put it in first thing in the morning and take it out at bedtime. I clean it overnight.

Never thought of that, lol I didnt think people used those anymore with all the different electric and battery operated toothbrushes available. I might have to get one, Most men dont carry bags with them but I myself carry and extra little bag in my purse with a travel tooth brush a tiny tube of extra adhesive, and a travel size toothpaste in case of bad breath cause carrying mouthwash could get messy, so I will put a dab of toothpaste on my tongue and brush that and rinse real well, maybe the guys could keep something in the glove box for when they go out to eat they can grab it and hit the restroom after dinner real qujck.

Never done the water pic before. I do however put extra adhesive at the bottom of my lunch bag encase I need some at any point in the day which I never do. But also i place it under my freezer ice packs so it stays cold as in Texas it gets hot and changes the adhesive from thick to greasy runny slime. And I do have along with it a battery powered toothbrush which is the same size as the denture small brush end. Of course I have in my car a tin of Altoids as well. LOL

If you can afford implants for your lower dentures that will solve your problem\
Your teeth will not shift and  you will not need glue
It will be an over denture or a clip on denture

Same.  I put mine in at about 5:30am and they stay in until time for bed.  I soak them overnight using polident and then I rinse and brush them off in the morning.  I wait until morning to brush them because it's a lot easier to remove any leftover adhesive.

Hello Charlie I actually don't do that, that takes up too much time. I can't imagine taking the time per each meal and snack doing that omg I would be thoroughly frustrated! The adhesive should with snug dentures keep food out thus after meals I just rinse with some water whenever I am going to the rest room, a little swish of mouthwash if I have some with me and keep it moving until around bed time then I remove them and clean them well and gargle with mouthwash and peroxide which breaks up the adhesive pretty well, keeps germs away and heals and restores the mouth of any issues. I tend to work to much to have time to do that, i suspect if a person is retired or have alot of time on there hands they could do that. I honestly have never done that ever.... Abit of rinsing with water is all that you need....

Just wondering. Mine don’t seal the best right now. Pretty loose, so stuff might get under them. Reline In 4 days (I hope). Lots of healing going on.

Exactly Patricia I'm with you, got your email also haven't had a chance to check it yet but other than rinsing i don't know anyone that removes and cleans them per meal and snack that would be such a time constraint for working people who are already under time constraints to make time for such balderdash in my opinion....

I can see if they are loose and adhesive isnt really holding them anyway, yes then maybe take them out, you dont want food up there all day, but if you have a good strong hold you dont want to hurt your gum tissue by forcing them out constantly either, last week I took mine out to early and I did rip my gum a little and for 4 days it really hurt, and it was a tiny spot

That's a good point Patricia. a tiny rip- Yikes! I had that once. If i am having a bit of a difficulty getting the denture to come off. I try some hot water to help loosen them, that is after having them in all day long thou and that helps.... Sorry to hear you had a sore spot and a rip geez...

OK I see, the recline will help so much i've had it done twice already, i'll say this as well the rubberized coating causes adhesives to stick and hold better too for me I've noticed. Im using predominately for the bottom a thin layer of poligrip applied or spread on with a qtip and poligrip powder and the hold so tight in place even after applying it at like 7am by night fall im fighting to get the thing off to clean. But that's precisely the type of grip, hold that I want throughout the day..

I like my dentures so snugly tight in place that they don't even move when I touch or jiggle them or try moving them. Natural teeth which are within the bone don't move so these are suppose to mimic natural teeth are they not, thus I want mines to be so snug in place that I don't have to think about them and adhesive with the glue does provide that all day long... I want to forget that I am even wearing dentures throughout the day and I do sometimes.

Forgetting I am wearing is the one thing that hasn't happened for me yet. I wear them all day. I eat. I talk normally. But, there is not a minute that I forget they are there. I am constantly aware of the hunk of plastic. How do you do it?

" Your yelling HAHA OMG you make me laugh. " Well this ideal of wearing dentures is for as long as we live accept we get four in ones or implants, this is our lives, for the rest of our lives! We may as well accept it and obtain some peace and resolution through it's acceptance or accept defeat and self rejection from it within ourselves....
Which shall we convey within and of ourselves?

So true Charlie this is a lifestyle, they are with us for as long as we live. So I accept them as my teeth. I never had to think about my teeth when I didn't have issues with them beyond normative thoughts of brushing etc.

well Sharon, yes we have no choice but to accept that these things are now a part of us, so all we can do is make the best of it whatever that is for each one of us as individuals. We can support each others journey and help each other along , knowing that we are not alone is a blessung if nothing else about it is

Well this recalling recollection of our dentures is one's own physiological psychological, psychical self torture. In that no one else is thinking about them as you go throughout the day, thus you are the only one, or rather we are the only ones consciously aware, subconsciously centralized on the thought of its awareness that we are wearing dentures. Sometimes for reasons of fear, trepidation of them becoming loose, moving, jiggling or otherwise. Thus I then remove or try removing my thoughts about them or regarding them as long as I know that they are securely tightly in place with enough grit which the adhesive and powder does. We play mind games with ourselves oft over various concerns but in this regard its a matter oft of fear,  consternation, worry, anxiety which is but our own mental infliction thus I simply refuse to focus on them, the dentures, that is, they are not going to rule my life or my day to day over the unknown or concerns and become my self infliction.... I am aware of them but they are truly suppose to become as our natural teeth were which we under most conditions never had to think about throughout the day..... We can't allow our dentures to become our own castigation this is or becomes a self imprisonment within itself.... In my humble opinion...

No one else is thinking about us having or wearing dentures but us, when you smile they see a smile, but when you smile you think its with false teeth, these dentures by which I smile. Thus our own minds impermeates our whole thought, and our whole thought pictorially displays before us with feelings of displeasure or uneasement that we have these dentures, thus we are not truly free within ourselves of ourselves and that which defines us is that which we imprison ourselves by and with. I can speak on that which I am aware that I do myself within myself until I become free from myself I am broken, agonizing within myself.... Not trying to tell anyone how or what to do, just relating what we do and how we do it or rather how I do it and how I am working or trying to work to get away from that which I am doing against myself for the sake of real peace, happiness, tranquility, peace of mind and to love myself even with dentures....

Mines are so tighly in place that I refuse to think about them or dwell on them, i forget that the teeth are fake or false that is only because I refuse to think of them or dwell on the fear factors....

Wow your a very smart well spoken man, I hope to think like that but Im afraid my own thoughts get the best of me on this and many other things thru my life, I suffer from an eating disorder which in turn has cause many forms of ocd so I cant control where my mind goes most of the time, my dr says malnutrition causes you to not be able to process things properly, I am trying though I have for an hour or so gotten busy and forgot they were in there I guess thats my form of progress.

Well Patricia the labels by which doctors put on us is only true in that we have labelled ourselves by them.... Not giving out medical advise, but I concur our thoughts do get in our way, all of us. Never the less you are a miracle within itself, you have arisen from your own burdens and have gotten to the place where you are today that's absolutely progress! I solute you....

One more HAHA:

Day to Day.
Day to day can be so mundane, that we miss out on the beauties of life! Feeling the gentle breeze of the wind, smelling a field of flowers, seeing the waves of a ocean dancing across the silky blue wafting waves of aromatic mist, the birds singing anthems amongst the trees, the lilies dancing and performing ballerina in the air, the clovers bending to and fro on the bends breathing blows. An old couple walking and holding hands as age praises pose, as wrinkles as maps tell traveling stories of age gone by. As boats with ores on oceans gallantly glide as on ice on the blue endless wafting waves. All time ceases and quiet speaks stillness, emptiness is fulfillment and sound is soft sensations. When the soul and the body hear in one place the echoes of eons past.

I never worry or care if people know I have dentures but the dentures are so big and the mouth, well mine physically anyway, is small. Have had them over a year, no room for food, normal size bites anyway, still gagging because the back of my tongue hits the top I suppose I should take them back in. They best not charge me!! I only wear them when I go out and put a tiny bit of glue because that crap is hard to get off my gums!! Might try the mouthwash and rubbing alcohol mentioned above, don't know. Anyway I am rambling but yeah what others think or see is not an issue with me, I am one of those crabby old ladies we used to make fun of when we were kids. ;)

You can do this yourself dont let them tell you it cant work thats bullshit Im telling you take a little bit and wear them for a few days take a little more wear them a few days, You just might find that you dont actually need to take much off after all for it to make a difference for YOU, Ae are all different and a little bit off feels like a whole lot you will be surprized

Cindy It may be to late to demand a new set be made, have you thought about doing what I did to mine, I filed the whole gum area down not just the palate, I cant afford the gas in my truck to go for adjustments every week, so I filed all the gum area a tiny bit at a time wore them for a day, did a bit more repeated the process until I was comfy, the dentist was gonna do the same thing

Barbara G. That would probably be wonderful, although for myself and my ocd I dont personally think I could handle the implants in my mouth, Im sure my tongue would be going crazy every minute I didnt have the denture in, I already find myself sucking on my cheeks or the ridge that was my gums when I dont have my denture in now. I use a lot of oragel, Im actually in a lot of discomfort most of the time becaise of it, my dentist says eat candy so I do a lot of that and that does help a little bit.

HAHA no rush at all Patricia so I'll email you tomorrow, getting ready to call it a day now, have work first thing in the morning but I shall converse with you more tomorrow if you have time and there is no rush at all.... As the tops are I can't fit them or wear them anyway, i ordered them on ebay they have a higher dip palate and my palate is small with a very little fold or ridge. They look good, they look like permanents but other than horse shoe they are useless. They were like 50 bucks for the top and bottom and I cant fit the bottom either too small...

Yeah, I can't , according to my insurance, get another set for 5 years,  but they can fiddle with the ones I have. There is enough to cut away. I heard it takes years for the gums to shrink the way they are supposed to. Guess that is a fact.

I am sorry for your discomfort, concerns and issues in this regard. Yes they should be able to do some adjustments to them. Not certain if what you have was presented with any type of warranty or package. Mines of which I paid out of pocket came with a warranty and package. So for adjustments, relining, hard-lining if needed does not come with any additional cost for my temporaries and for my permanents which I will get in July. Five years is alot of time.... It doesn't take years for the gums to shrink however they do shrink abit over time. Mines in less than four months have shrunk to where I can feel the titanium screws that are in my bottom jaw awaiting my implants. Because of that initially the bottoms were starting to hurt because the gums have shrunk whereby I can feel my screw. But with the new rubberized reline on the bottom denture I don't have any more discomfort. Just awaiting July to get my bottom implant then no more adhesive on the bottom. Then I'll consider adapting the top ultimate fit denture for a top implant which will be a more affordable option to get away from adhesives all together.... I have insurance but Affordable Dentures and Implants where I go did not and does not take insurance.

Of course if you can afford an over denture or a  clip on denture (attached to implants )  you will not need  to have a covered   pallet and you will not need adhesives or glue

if you can afford an over denture or a  clip on denture (attached to implants )  you will not need  to have a covered   pallet and you will not need adhesives or glue
is there any reason why you are not going to a place that takes your insurance

OK Lonie
i understand what you are saying
I have 2 different permanent bridges
The top bridge  is the more expensive one and it is a permanent bridge cemented  onto  6 implants and it is about  15+ years old  and nothing has ever gotten under it and it can be jimmied off if necessary   I like that one the best

The lower bridge  (it  was when I ran out of money)  and it is called a hybred bridge and is screwed in (The lower was half the price of the upper bridge)

The lower bridge  can be unscrewed and taken off but only by a dentist with special tools.  Nothing has gotten under either bridge.  I use a Water pic after every meal at home and then I brush

If I had it to do all over again I think I might have opted for a less expensive CLip on but they were not making Clip ons then

The lower bridge (the hybred)  is over 10 years old  and I just got it unscrewed  so that I could have some periodontal work done.
The upper bridge is the more expensive and older bridge (about 15 years old)   one and  both bridges  are on 6 implants

I think that denturisit you found might work out really well for you  and any one else that finds him  and uses him/

If I had it to do all over again I think I might have opted for a less expensive clip on  (they did not have them then)   and maybe I would have gone to Mexico or Costa Rico to have it done???

Please keep us updated on your dental journey because we learn from each other

Good Luck
Barbara

Oh wow Barbara ok in all honesty after I acquired the loan I was really considering the four on one permanent until the dentist explained to me of a patient that came in to see if who apparently wasn't I assume cleaning well enough who had gotten an infection underneath in the spacing that causes the gums to swell pushing against the pressed permanent teeth. Thus this person paid something near 20.000 dollars to get the permanents removed. Obviously at this point, treating and cleaning the gums and having to wait for an innumerable time for the gums to heal and the infection and then having to pay to get the permanents replaced was a cost consideration as well as duality per infection not being able to clean in and through those spaces caused me to rethink that whole thought and made me want the snap ons for certain... You using or having the waterpik with a force of water I am certain made a difference for you, I have seen some horrible scary google image pictures that further made my mind that snap ons was the best way to go even if I had to change the abutments every five years verses a infection from debree that I can't get too or reach...

I tend to think in terms of cost and affordability with the snap ons they are easily repairable or easily replaced if need be, if one of the teeth or part of the permanents break for whatever reason it has to be replaced completely so I have been told which is expensive so I am good with acrylic. I eat any and everything that I want already other than hard candy... I use to really like the heath bar type of candy bars but I can't eat them the toffee is too hard so im missing those HAHA. I'll definitely let you know in July when I get my bottom snap on how it works out for me and then the implant surgery that I will undergo for the top down the line.... I am suppose to get the ultimate fit for the top at present in July that is supposed to be promised to not need adhesive, thou I highly doubt that as I haven't much ridge up there I'll take pictures and share with my denture family on here. Thank You all so much and much love. Lonie

I understand  you know what is best for your self

My lower  fixture is more then 10 or 13? years old and
it was before all on 4 etc and before over dentures or clip
on dentures

My lower denture is permanent but screwed in and can be
unscrewed easily  by the dentist if needed
I don't even know if they still use this type any more

I wish there was a dental office where everyone working there wears dentures.  Then they would truly understand what we are going through.  So much of the advice I have received at the dental office is useless because the person giving the advice has no idea what it is truly like to wear dentures.
