Extractions tommorrow

I am going in at 9am tomorrow for full extraction.  6 upper, 11 lower.  I am also having 2 upper implants put in and 2 lower.  I am 66 and have lots of bone loss.  Eventually I my immediate dentures will be converted to snapons for these implants.  I know uppers should get 4 implants but can't really afford that and my dentist says 2 will help.  I'm a bit nervous as expected and after reading through the forum it seems some go well and others have more problems or adjustment periods.  Just chiming in and hoping for the best right now.  Thank you all for sharing your experiences.  - Mike

The day before is the worst. I am having a lot of problems adjusting, but I believe that having implants on the bottom is the key. The bottom denture floating around is the hardest thing to deal with. I had my surgery 5 days ago. The most solid advise that I know to give you is, the pain isn't as bad as you think it will be. I had a lot of teeth removed before getting this surgery done, and they all were much worse than this. The dentures act like a bandaid, as weird as that sounds. While they feel weird, they really do help with the pain and healing process.

I hope that helps calm your nerves a little.

Hi Susan,

Everything went fine.  Not something I'd want to do every day.  All teeth out, 4 implant posts in. Immediate denture was too painful to put in right after surgery so my dentist told me to leave it out and come back to see him in 2 days.  With the Ibuprofen and salt washes I'm pretty comfortable for now.  Upper actually seems to fit pretty well but lower rocks all over the place and knocks off upper.  Anyway, thank you so much for asking.  The worst is over and now it's just months of adjustments and getting used to my new mouth.

I'm glad that you're doing well. I'm sorry that it's not going exactly as planned though. Adjustments are everywhere in the future, your mouth, your muscles, your habits, and your mind. These forums are a great help! Stay in touch! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask!
