Hi Jodi Koenig

This should not be happening so the first thing you should do is return to the
dentist   Tell the receptionist you need an immediate appointment as something is Wrong.
Be definitive,  don't say you THINK something is wrong just say something IS wrong
Your expectation is that your dentist  will correct it and do not settle util you feel NO pain and your denture is streight and does not look crooked.  This is the very beginning and your dentist must understand that you want something you can be happy with.  It is your rght and his obligation.
You are paying a lot of money and it is your right to  receive a correct denture
Keep every one here informed of your progress because we learn from each other and we want everyone to have a correct outcome.

I would call the office again and tell them you are in too much pain to wait the 4 days and see if you can push your appointment up.
You have said it correctly  you have to deal with these for 6 months and you can not and should not be subjected to this type of pain.

Your dentist will understand soon enough that he can not push off poor work on you.  Let him understand that now.   This way you will have less trouble with him in the future
You have to stand up for yourself.  You paid for good work and that's what you should be getting    Ask him if he thinks you should go to the the lab that made the denture   and see what they think about the fit and the crooked looking teeth.
Keep us posted so we learn from your journey

You know Jodi
You probably should consider a denture secured by some implants
You Are having so much trouble that implants or a denture anchored on implant might be the answer for you
Its more money but it will b the best money you have spent
First of course u must get more comfortable

You may have some bone chips that are working their way out.  That is normal. Ask your dentist for some Benzodent.  That stuff is amazing.

I don't know. . .everyone seems to say something different. Hahaha. I had full extractions and full upper and lower dentures and they hurt like hell. I've had them adjusted twice. No bones poking through, just severe pain, especially when I bite down and the pain turns into deep aches whenever I have them out. Dentist says that shouldn't be happening and adjusts them and each adjustment alleviates the pain a couple days, but it just comes back. I've heard they shouldn't hurt at all. I've head people say they've had dentures for 3 years and they still hurt. I've heard all along the spectrum. Hard to know what to do. I just wear them as long as I can deal with the pain. Had them two weeks now.

Hi Joel
It  certanley seems like this should not be happening to you
Are these your temporary dentures or are they your permanent dentures
Is there any way your dentist would agree to a 2nd opinion and have someone else, another
dentist look at them??  Is your dentist a Prosdodontist??  If not  would he
refer you to a prosdodontist for  second  opinion?    Can you call your states Dental Society and ask if you can get an opinion from them about your on going pain???
Tell your dentist  you need a resolution/   Can you  have the dental lab that made this denture give you an opinion???

Thank you for your comments. If a second opinion is really cheap, like next to free, haha. then I can probably swing that. I have broke my bank on the extractions and dentures, which all together came to almost four thousand dollars. I do need something because as it is I can only wear them for a few hours a day before the pain becomes too unbearable. And while they are in, I can't talk or hardly even move without the pain amplifying...much less attempting to chew. I got some cushion adhesives and those actually knock out about half the pain but I can only wear them on the bottom. If I wear them on the top, they lose suction and just fall right out. Still, the stabbing in my gums can't go on. I've broken three ribs and a collar bone and that was less painful than this.

Hi Jody
Well you are having a terrible time
I guess you have 2 problems and the first one is to get more comfortable
so you are not suffering this pain
the second thing is the long range plan for your teeth and dental comfort
There are dentists all over the place that will give you a free consultation
and perhaps you should take advantage of some of these offers just to
see what other dentists reccommend.  Something is going on
Something is wrong??
To me it sounds long range that you have to look at some kind of implants
Unfortunatley they will cost more then dentures alone
You are in a tough spot.  Look at dental colleges.  Where are you located and
do you have any dental colleges near you??  Can you finance some of this cost?
Hopefully when you heal  something will improve.  What does your dentist say?
Are you continuing to see your dentist and asking him to do something?
Take care of your self
Barbara
