FINDING A replacement for cushion grip

ON MY QUEST FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR CUSHION GRIP

1-Ebay   Has Thermoplastic beads (small and inexpensive)-says they're non-toxic, I think and that you can heat in water and mold and then re-heat and form. I'm going to try them.
2-I also got some small plastic beads from jewelry supply catalog-but not sure if they're thermoplastic and the co didn't really think they were necessarily made to use with Dentures, but..

3-on ebay-Insta-Denture Reline Kit--made by one who uses them and claims they're even better than cushion grip. It looks like something bendable and spreadable--when heated---like cushion grip. @ $4.00 per set, I thought I'd try them.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=121724651131

4-I bought something malleable whose name I forgot Suji/? which supposedly is a substance that when you knead it together, you can make it in any shape--leave it out overnight, they say and it becomes rubber. I bought it and haven't had a chance--concerned that it might be toxic?

5-Saw something on line like Insta-Mold looked like it had similar properties.

Some on this site and other Denture boards have been writing to denture cream companies asking them to manufacture Cushion Grip or something similar. Sounded like the co's hadn't been aware of this need. Maybe someone would want to make more formal direct contact with the companies.
Someone else suggested going on Shark Tank--after drawing up a dynamite business plan and presentation, and of course, getting patent or creating a similar product because as we've seen THEY'VE GOT A PROVEN MARKET! This is not something I'm up to doing but maybe someone else would.

I had also suggested we try to manufacture it ourselves, getting funded through individual donations on Kickstarter...one of our members even offered to donate a tube of Cushion Grip to be analyzed in a lab for ingredients.

I think it is shameful the way many people have tried to greedily capitalize on the need for this product. The cheapest price I saw today on line for it was $57 for one tube.
So, I'll keep you informed on my experiments.

Warm wishes and tight dentures to all,
Wendy

I got tired of people ripping off users of cushion grip that use to cost $5.00. I tried Cushion Correct EZ and it works as good if not better then Cushion Grip and it's only $20.00$200.00 or more a tube. I now buy Cushion Correct EZ at $20.00 for a 30 gram tube. I will never buy Cushion Grip again. Please give this product a try you will not be disappointed and you will save $180.00 on each tube.

Get your dentures made with a zero degree flat plane, or a 10 degree. Your bottom denture will be more stable.

I think we're getting somewhere in attracting entrepreneurs to our ready made market for cushion grip or something like it: YAY

PLS READ; HERE'S AN ANSWER FROM  AN EBAY SELLER WHO MAKES DENTURE LININGS WHO SAID "HE WASN'T AWARE OF A MARKET FOR CUSHION GRIP AND HE'D LOOK INTO MAKING SOMETHING SIMILAR!!"" (THIS WAS IN RESPONSE TO A QUESTION i POSED TO AN EBAY MAKER OF DENTURE LININGS--AND A WEARER!) YAY! WE'RE MAKING HEADWAY--THE MARKET IS GETTING NOTICED!
Seller has responded to your question about this item

Dear nan2755,
Ours is not soft and spongy.. If we haven't shipped, we can cancel your order. We can look into formulating something similar to cushion grip. I hadnt realized the market for it. We formulated ours because since had problems with too much cushion so ours is a firmer solution.

Dear genericware,
Hi- I purchased 2 packages of these and am wondering if they are soft and spongy (hopefully). Many other denture wearers and i are looking for something to replace our beloved Cushion Grip whose company stopped manufacturing the product after it had been sold. We are all lost--this was the only product that makes my dentures fit and are comfortable. Some can't wear their dentures at all now.

We are also trying to find an entrepreneur willing to manufacture CG again--or a similar product. There's a huge receptive market with dollars ready and waiting for you!. 1 oz tubes that cost maybe $7 are going for a minimum of $80+ per tube online by people who can afford to buy these last few tubes at that price (I can't afford it) because there's nothing else like it on the market.

So please consider bringing back Cushion Grip or asking other business associates to help. One of our wearers said she would donate a tube of it for analysis if necessary. Thank you.

If this is only sold in Japan, how are you obtaining it? What is the price for each tube?

I can't imagine that there are very many people on here that can read Japanese, so how do we know what the ingredients are and if it would be approved by the FDA? Most important - how do we know that it is non-toxic?

Charlene, they are probably selling expired product and people maybe don't know enough to look for an expiration date on it, not sure. One time I called they're asking about it even though I never tried it because I didn't have a denture back then but the lady told me yes there are expiration dates so product is not good after a certain amount of time.

There is a product in Japan called Cushion Correct EZ that I now buy online 12-20 dollars a tube. It does work as good if not better then Cushion Grip. I will never buy Cushion Grip again unless I can find it locally for under $15.00 a tube. Cushion Correct EZ comes in 30 gram tubes. It looks, applies, and even has that slight burn while setting, just like CG. If you are tired of people charging $200 a tube for CG, then please try CCEZ. You will NOT be disappointed.

You can also buy it on Amazon now.  It's a bit more expensive than Rakuten, but if people want to it or can't figure out the Rakuten process this is another option.  36 grams is > 1 oz (about 28 grams) so it is much cheaper than "other" products out there.

Beth, I also have good luck with the wider tip Fixodent! Unfortunately, I think due to my medications, the only adhesive that will hold my teeth all day is Secure. Now I did just receive my permanent teeth on Monday and they fit well enough that I don't need to use anything. When I go out for my steak dinner I will glue them in, just in case. Lol

Hi Charlene,
Im a Former Cushion Grip User myself on a quest to find a copy cat or similar product to use. I see youve provided a link a product called suregrip dental adhesive. The link appears to be broken and when i click it i get a 404 error page and no way to navigate to anything else related. Could you please repost the link to the webpage for the "SureGrip" product and have you tried it? Is it like cusion grip or just another paste. I use secure presently along with ezo cushions to help with the loose dentures and running but still have pain and discomfort biting down and also irritated gums and sorrs ocasuonally from the rubbing. Of Suregrip is not another paste like priduct but more lile cushion grip im interested. Tha k you

Hi, Wendy and all who read and post here! I only found out today that Cushion Grip is no longer manufactured. I've had cancer with severe weight loss and my dentures are way too large now so I've had to just go without any teeth at all for the past two years. I have no funds for new dentures. Today I went a little overboard in my craving to eat any food denser than mashed potatoes. I took my Dremel tool to these huge plastic wedges and i got them sized down to fit inside my mouth. I only took material off the outside of the dentures so the huge gaps between the inside of dentures and my gums remains. Even when they were new i couldn't chew anything like a steak or bacon or lettuce. It's been years. However before i got too sick i found Cushion Grip and also the thermoplastic beads. I had to use the plastic beads to fill in most of the dentures' huge crevasses, then I used Cushion Grip to keep them in place without those nasty creams that always melted into any food i tried to eat. The beads melt easily with boiling water and then harden right up in cold water after you mold the plastic however you need to. They are considered a 'soft liner'like all these other products: permasoft, pro soft, etc... none of these are soft, they are hard plastics like the beads. The only soft liner on the market that I've ever found was Cushion Grip. I have a whole tube that i guess i have to ration now. But i also ordered an inexpensive non toxic rubber-like molding compound today and I'm hoping it will work even better than Cushion Grip. It could be permanent except for refitting with gum shrinkage. It's supposed to be a soft rubbery material that is firm in its center but soft on the outside. This might actually turn out to enable me to eat foods i only dream of eating all these years. I've tried the cushions and the wax ones just melt and disintegration when i try to chew and the foam or other material is a joke, won't stay in place at all. I wanted to let you know that the plastic beads are good for filling large or even small gaps but not soft or comfortable at all. And I'm wondering why we would want Cushion Grip back, whose former manufacturer abandoned us., when what we really need is a more permanent solution, a soft liner that doesn't have to be reapplied every week or month or a few days. I just can't think of any advantage that Cushion Grip had over a better soft liner like dentists use for temporary dentures. I'd like to know if you had any luck with the moldable soft rubber that you ordered, Wendy? I will post again after my order comes in, up to 2 weeks away, with results. Thank you all for starting up and continuing these discussions, i don't know where else i would have found so much information!

Sorry, Joan I just saw this! Yes, the sure grip but since I had a reline I don't really use much of anything now. I haven't looked into finding the sure grip lately- might be other peeps that may know where to get it. I still like the Japan reg. Cushion Correct, that's my go to if I need something to use!

Absolutely,Since Cushion Grip Is No Longer An Option I Use Cushion Correct Regular As Well. I've Found For Me It Works Like Cushion Grip And Is Pretty Close Match. It Doesn't Stick So Well In The Onset But After Awhile I Cant See Any Difference Much. I Usually Have to Reapply A Second Layer As The First Tends To be Too Thin Or Thins Out Due To The Ooze Afterward Which I Trim With Scissors. I don't know If Your Ordering Your Cushion Correct From Japan Or Not But Amazon Now Has It And It's Much Cheaper Than Ebay Or Having It Shipped From Japan Direct

I prefer Cushion Correct Non-EZ.  I've tried EZ, Tough Grip and one other one I bought on Rakuten and like CC the best.  It's really a personal thing.

FYI Cushion Correct and Curshion Correct EZ are also available on Amazon now. Rakuten is still the cheaper way to go.   There's even YouTube videos on how to order it.

I had a relign at my dentist awhile back and in the kit she opened to do the procedure was a brand new tube of good old cushion grip that was going to be wasted. I told my dentist my plight and also mentions the price gouge on amazon and eBay in the ear shot of the dental technician who was there. She gave me the tube no worrys however when I went to have my lowers done she had gone in to bigger and better things and so the other dentist a guy opened a kit to do my lowers and there was another tube of cushion grip and do you know that dental technician refused to give it to me so he could I'm sure profit on it having I'm certain done his own looking into the process hike on ebay. It was too late and one other time the tech robbed me of my cushion grip that came at my expense in the kit they used to do my relign. Unbelievable I give him the evil eye every time I'm into the office. He is so scandalous Lol

I used to order Cushion Grip by the case, 25-50 tubes at a time from Pharmapack, however they no longer sell Cushion Grip. Boy! Wish I would have known they were going to discontinue making it! I would have ordered 1,000 tubes to last me and others a lifetime, and NOT sell a tube for $117 which is what I recently had to pay. The best idea yet is Shark Tank, and someone with knowledge coming up with a comparable product. I myself, invented Jeans for larger women in the 80's with a trademark and know how to go the route of production. Anyone interested?

Hey, folks; demanding investigations by the attorney general will be fruitless, as this isn't "price gouging " going on by companies like Ebay. Ebay is a marketplace for people to sell things on; Ebay itself isn't selling the Cushion Grip. It's more likely people like me (but who don't actually need the CG themselves, of  course)

I DO need to use it; and when I learned it had been discontinued, I went to Ebay and bought all I could afford at the time (at that time it was going for about between 10-14 dollars). ended up with around 34 tubes.

I was hoping that would last me a while, as I can sometimes get 4-6 weeks use out of one lining, if I am careful and lucky.

Now, going on a couple years later, I came back online to see if CG or a comparable product was now being made, and was shocked to see the price had risen by mostly private parties to between $100-$150 a tube, and even HIGHER!

If I was smarter I guess 2 years ago, I should have done without other things and invested in CG as a business opportunity!!??.

Today, I actually considered turning the 28 tubes I still have left into $2800 on Ebay; as I am a disabled senior, and I live on a small fixed income, and could really use the money. But because I actually NEED the CG even more so I can eat in comfort for a while longer; I decided against that.

For the past couple years I have been using the CG VERY frugally; leaving the liner in longer than I would have in the past, and sometimes even just "patching" the liner with a bit of product at times instead of replacing whole thing.

Hopefully before I run out completely, some smart corporation will start making a comparable product available again to us consumers, as I feel they are certainly missing the mark right now by not doing so. I actually figured that by NOW, one of them would have done just that........

But, honestly; if I could have seen 2 years into the future 2 years ago, I believe I might have tried to even borrow enough money to buy a few hundred tubes of it while I could still get it for 10-14 dollars, as that would have made my life of poverty just a little easier.

But I just couldn't see into the future enough to see that 2 things were going to happen: one; that there would be people who would be willing to pay upwards of $100 a tube, and two; that some big company would not have been smart enough to to produce another thermoplastic product for all the folks who need it, or buy up the current patent.

In conclusion though....I can't really blame the folks smart enough to do what I now wish I would have done.

Oh ya; I am really interested in the molding product that Lynn ordered...LYNN: did it come, and please let us know how it worked out?

Hope we get some good news soon, though, guys.  Lori

Hi all-Sorry I've been out of communication.Been a crazy couple of months with changes at work I'm finally adjusting to and a bout with a severely absessed tooth--which was so bad it needed a drain!  After that I was a little squeamish, Lynn, about trying something else claylike or moldable which wasn't specially made for use in the mouth and may not have been non-toxic.

I have not forgotten our quest. I think it's so great that everyone's keeping on it.. I, too, agree that Shark Tank would be great if anyone had the guts/balls to try to put together a sparkling presentation for that group. I know I'm not up to it.  But I have thought about contacting an "action reporter" on one of our local NYC tv stations. I just don't have the stamina to do much more than that. I thought I would compile a letter with some of the quotes from this column and see if we can get some press on it. Or I was trying to think of a print journalist who might be interested in doing a story on it. I think even a properly worded letter to the editor might draw some attention, too. I have tried the Bayer # and am always too late in the day to reach them.

As for me, I'm subsisting on "scraps of cushion grip" I can find in leftover tubes because as we keep saying, "There's nothing that works as well." I have used, I think they're called AZO liners from time to time..but they're gummy and not consistent.

So let's keep up the fight. It is scary how the price keeps rising on the cushion grip. I thought I might be able to obtain some but the price just keeps going up and up..Oy

Warm regards and stable dentures to all,
Wendy

Cushion Grip is the only thing that works for me. They said they only sold it at CVS but I bought some at Rite Aide. It is the best product for dentures. The prices on line are outrages but remember these sellers are just trying to make as much money as they can. They could care less about us. Still I wish we could convince the company to start making this product again.

Nothing, because I've tried everything offered and it don't work or it gets slimmy or just melts away. So I just eat soft food now.

found a product made by DOC. Dentist on call which is a denture reline kit. I found it at Walmart in Georgia but not in South Carolina. I just did it, took an hour. Will try out tomorrow. My bottom is very painful. They don't want to do a reline because my new dentures are not centered, and still swelling on the bottom. I coated my bottom gums with petroleum jelly and trying this reline. I'm two weeks in.

Never had any luck with Cushion Grip or DIY reline kits. I found an adhesive that works great and it isn't a Fixodent product. Those don't work for me either.

I can get pretty much anything to hold my tops for 6-8 hours. It's the lowers that will only hold if I don't eat or drink or salivate

Her email address is aquagirl2479@gmail.Com

Try contacting her through that. She said in one post that she doesn't check on here very often.

I received a sample but haven't used it yet because I have asked about the ingredients and FDA approval but haven't been completely satisfied with the answers.

Try Cushion Correct.  You can buy it on Amazon now or cheaper on Rakuten directly from Japan.

http://www.ebay.com/gds/Cushion-Correct-EZ-Cushion-Grip-Alternative-/10000000208724842/g.html

http://www.shionogi-hc.co.jp/wellness/medicine/denture/ccrtez/doc/ccrtez_1_en.pdf

I personally like the Non-EZ Cushion Correct.  I've been using several Japanese, Austrian (Secure) and German (Protefix) products for almost a year now.

Many folks have found Cushion Correct to be nearly identical to Cushion Grip.

From the comfort lining site: "Ingredients, you ponder? No worries; our streamlined formula combines the powers of base ethylene vinyl acetate, mono and diglycerides with unrefined red palm oil for natural coloring to offer the customer an amazingly superior denture adhesive. Our product is guaranteed to be 100% free of toxic materials, such as zinc or benzene, and is proudly made in the United States of America."
Really? Ethylene vinyl acetate is not toxic?

Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) is not hazardous by ingestion, unless you eat an object made of EVA that's big enough to cause choking or other problems — in which case it would pose the same hazards as any other plastic object.
