First time self removal of immediate dentures (New Wearer)

So I saw my denturist this morning and he removed my immediate upper for the first time since surgery. I'm on day 3 (was too swollen the first couple days). When he removed and replaced them there was no pain, no discomfort. He told me to do the same thing tonight, 3 times tomorrow, and 5 times the following day and then from there on out. So I took it out with no problems tonight, but now that I have put it back in its extremely uncomfortable and a bit painful. Did I not place it right? Should I take it out and try and replace it again?
Is it possibly phantom pain and discomfort because I was super worried about not putting it in right?
Also the more uncomfortable the feeling is, I'm also getting nauseous and squeamish.
Please give me some advice.

I just went through the same thing only difference is I was told to take mine out after 24 for a few and when I felt comfortable to put them back in the pain I felt was cause the swelling went down and the impresstion they made was of my normal gums after having 18 teeth removed was a lot of trama to my mouth so your pain is the gums are going down and the dentures need to be adjusted just call your dentist I have had mine for 9 days and had to go back for adjustment on day five my gums went down alot just my experience

You've probably gotten past this however I was also scared. And after a week and a half I have still yet to look inside my mouth. Denial I guess and I just don't want to see how it looks. It was painful removing for at least the first week but after the adjustments and as the sore spots started healing, it has gotten much better.
