I don't know for sure but suspect it could be because it contains zinc? Good question and I'd like to know for sure too.

I don't know the complete answer, but I can tell you that it has to do with the chemical makeup of these compounds. Especially anything with zinc in it. If Rosie comes around any time soon, she will give a better explanation. She works for Fixodent.

The reason is on this board, if you find the right words to search for.

Good luck!

Some of them are zinc free, but not all. Also, I'm sure that there are many other chemicals that are bad for you in excess.

I use the fixodent powder also and all of them say the same thing.  Zinc or not, it says not to use it more than once per day.  But....sometimes you just have to stick those things back down.  I do occasionally if I need to.  But most of the time mine stay stuck enough to stay till I'm ready to take them out.  Usually when the bra comes off the teeth come out. I never have to re-insert my uppers, but my lowers I do, usually once in the afternoon. I have no qualms about this.....I do what I have to do. I do take both out at bedtime and let them soak overnight.

Fixodent does contain zinc. From what I've read, it is only a problem if you really abuse it, like going through an 8 or 9 week supply in a week. Poly grip is zinc free. I was given fixodent when I had my extractions, but my wife uses poly grip. I rotate back and forth between them so I don't get too much zinc. I also did a soft reline so an application of either lasts a lot longer.

Please excuse the profile pic. That was the day I had 27 teeth pulled and got my temp dentures. My brother said just because I was showing my teeth didn't make it a smile! lol

I went church tonight with no adhesive, not even powder. It went pretty well. No issues. The soft reline is great. It would probably be better if I had the dentist do it. I'm going to try and get an appointment, but no rush since the reline-it is working so well. might as well leave it in for a week or two.

Ken, I didn't go in today to get my teeth fixed because I'm not bouncing back from my surgery very well. I called and left them a voice mail and she called me back and, since I was sleeping, she got my voice mail and so I'm scheduled for next Monday.

This afternoon when the mail came there was a letter from AD stating that the office that I've been using (15-20 minutes away) is closing towards the end of February and we can either get our permanents now or go to a different location. The one they suggested is over 70 miles away or there is one that I found that is closer but either way. I am so angry about this! I guess I'm getting my permanent teeth on Monday so that if I have any problems I won't have to drive that far.

OMG I just can't believe this! The part that really has my blood boiling is that I still need no less than 2 surgeries before she wanted to get my permanent dentures made, which was slotted for August!!

UGH! What the hell am I supposed to do now?!?

Several weeks ago, I called Fixodent to define what they meant by the adhesive lasting all day. Their answer was anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. I'm right in the middle. However, anyone who works or has long hours will have to apply it once a day. I'm normally twice unless I'm up longer or mess something up.
