I will tell you 1 thing, Fixodent does not last all day and never will. It could if you do not drink any thing,or eat anything during the day. So all day long is not true.

Do you have powder or cream? I've heard the powder is best. Are your dentures new and already very loose? Been researching this a while and it sounds like Cushion Grip from CVS makes all the difference.

Ron I don't have any trouble whatsoever when I use Fixodent and mines stay in all day long and I have to even wiggle it a loose after more than 12 hours and I wear up and down partials.
U must put the adhesive on clean and dried denture and once u put them in your mouth u have to hold them in for just a few seconds with your finger to set. And for about 5 or 10 minutes after putting them in your mouth do not eat or drink, hope this will help u.

Hi Ron, I know it's frustrating when your teeth come loose.  Fixodent is formulated to last all day.  There are some factors which can affect the hold of a denture adhesive, including the fit of your dentures, changes in your mouth & bone structure, and any medications you may be taking.  Very hot or cold beverages have also been known to loosen denture adhesives.  If you're using one of our cream versions, it's important to apply it to a dry denture, as Diane mentioned.  If you'd like to talk through your questions, please give us a call at 1-800-214-8871.  We're open Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 9-6 ET and would be happy to help.  I wish you all the best!

I agree with Ron. I am 58 years old, and have worn Dentures since I was 23. Have had several sets. NEVER have I ever had a denture adhesive last all day and have tried ALL brands. Can not even get through a full meal much less a full day.

Kathryn, we are so sorry to hear about your difficulty over years. How frustrating!
Our denture adhesive should hold for 12 hours. If it is not lasting that long, it could be caused by the below. Have you had alignments done recently?
  • The fit of your dentures.
  • Your nutritional health and saliva flow.
  • Very hot or cold food.
  • Changes in the condition of your gums or bone structure.
  • The condition of your dentures.
  • The medication you are taking.
  • For creams - making sure you are applying to dry dentures

Secure adhesive denture strips last me 12 to 14 hours a day. The only thing that seems to break the seal is chocolate. I don't know why this is. Does anyone have any ideas? I think it's the acids that are in chocolate that do this.

Chocolate isn't as acidic as other foods like citrus for example.
What kind of Chocolate or are you talking ANY chocolate?

Fixodent Food Seal, my favorite will last all day and then some. I start my day around 6AM and end about 11PM. Hot coffee, meals, etc throughout the day and have yet to experience a problem with it. That's 16 to 17 hrs of solid hold.

Fixodent Original on the other hand, never seemed to hold well for more than a few hours.

I find I have to apply more fixodent before lunch and supper. It depends on what I am eating. If I try to eat a sandwich and bite it it will loosen the denture. I ate a Mcdonalds cheeseburger and it doesn't loosen it that much. Anyone else have trouble eating sandwiches? What about roll ups? Tacos?

Annie I also have to reapply Fixodent (Powder) before lunch & dinner. It's embarrassing sometimes I have to hold my tooth/denture  down with my finger in order to bite into a  sandwich while eating out. Sees candy w/ soft centers also  makes one side of my top denture pop (come unglued).  I have to do same action as above hold side with my finger. After drinking hot cocoa it comes unglued.  Around 5pm - 7 I feel as if I am about to gag I have to immediately remove top denture place it in my pocket or dash in truck. My friends give me a hard time and I am constantly looking for where I put my denture.  My mom and close friend both do not have to use any kind of adhesives at all their top denture just stays in place. I sure wish I didn't have this problem.  I've had this problem for 3 years now (go to dentist every yr to align or adjust them).  Nothing seems to work. I am open to suggestions.  I'd also like to stop this gag feeling.

To make things worse after buying the new box Fixodent Powder for 3 days  I've had this horrible aftertaste maybe I am having a bad reaction to it.  I've had to spit out foam unable to drink liquid feel sick to my stomach.  When I remove my top denture at night the next morning I feel as if I have been chewing on tin foil all night.  I did not use a lot of the powder simply a light dusting.  I do like the new spout versus the old version.  Am I alone?

I found the powder doesn't, hold at all. Why don,t you try the adhesive? I tried Fixodent true feel....only lasts thru one meal.....Fixodent gum care works a little better, not good enough.. I don't know why but I think the original works the best. I still have a hard time with bitting into a sandwich, or bitting into a pickle. You never know when it will loosen. I only have a bottom denture. I found if I eat like a cherry tomato it will loosen. I think the seed goes under. I am still trying to figure out which adhesive works best. I even tried polident. That contains no zinc. It works pretty good too but still will come loose depending what I am eating. No matter which one I use, I still have to apply it more than once. It is embarrassing to have to go into a bathroom stall to reapply. I only had my denture for 9 months. I guess this is only how good it will get. I will be going to the dentist in a month or so. I am worried if he realigns them again I will be back to square one with sores starting up again. I don,t need to go thru that again.

Anne I want to thank you for writing back to me.  When I went to Walmart to buy my usual Adhesive Powder the lady told me box had changed.  Right there I made a Big mistake.  I bought Fixodent believing it was Poligrip.  So all the complaining I wrote about was Poligrip having to use it 3x a day.  But after using Fixodent Powder it also did not work, I had a horrible reaction to it.  Gagging, regurgitating for hours.  Bottle states not to use 3x in one day which I didn't read so maybe I am allergic to Zinc?  Anyway the powder did not work.

I went back to store and bought Fixodent crème super hold the same thing started happening, regurgitating, foaming at the mouth, horrible after taste.

Once again I'm wondering is it the zinc?  I wasn't able to swallow for many hours.  I purchased Equate denture adhesive cream w/o zinc  my dentures have stayed in place.  Some days it stays in all day other times I have to reapply same day.  I apply to dry denture if I put too much on I feel the cream oozing out from under in the back.  I wish it wasn't so hard to squeeze tube, cream doesn't seem to want to adhere to dry denture.  I don't know why I am so upset not being able to find Poligrip looking back I had to carry it with me.   Anyway thanks for sharing, denture sores do go away "Orajel Antiseptic Rinse for all mouth sores, promotes healing, kills bacteria.  Doesn't taste that great so I rinse my mouth out afterwards with my regular mouthwash.  Using that ad Orajel gel in the tube before I go to sleep or put on dentures did help me lots.

I can relate to how you feel that is the reason I did not go back to my dentist (besides drive is 8 hrs away, one way) having to go thru sores a 3rd yr in a row and/or fit just wasn't too my liking.  Dentist gal advised me to use an emery board to sand down spot that hurt my mouth.  Here's a Ha Ha for you a guy friend of mine used his dremel to sand down rough spots on his dentures they eventually broke.

I am glad this site exists I wish I knew about it when I first had denture questions.  I found some of my answers just by asking people in denture waiting room.  Colleen

Maryanne your dentures must be dry before applying the Fixodent, and a
thinner line will hold better than a thicker line.

Maryanne after I posted the first reply I was wondering what Fixodent product are
u using the cream or the powder, bc if u're using the cream then your denture has to be dry, but if u're using the powder then your denture has to be moist.

i have had dentures for over 10 years. And the only way my dentures will stay in is I don't eat or drink any thing. I have a good fit, but this cream is a total joke, and always has been. I carry a extra tube of this fixodent every where i go. oh well I can eat what ever at times.

Ron when using Fixodent cream adhesives your dentures has to be completely dry.

Use a thin line around the valley of the dentures and then about two thin line in the top of the upper dentures put the top dentures in first, hold in with your thumbs until it set, then put a thin line of adhesive around the valley of the bottom dentures and do the same thing hold in with fingers for a few mins. then clamp down so that both up and down dentures are together. Wait about 10 mins. before eating or drinking anything. And make sure that dentures are completely clean and dried  before using any of Fixodent cream adhesives. U  might want to try using a little Fixodent Powder

and cream together too, just moisten denture and sprinkle on a little of the powder and then use a very, very thin line of Fixodent cream.

Hope this will help all that have problem with dentures and partials loosening while eating or drinking hot liquids, to me Fixodent is the best adhesive to use and it holds my upper and lower partials in so well and keeps out food particles very well I always have to use a little wiggles to loosen my up even after 12 hours or more.

God Bless U All!

I just started wearing dentures on the first of this month (Dec. '14).  I have opposing problems with the Fixodent.  My lower dentures stay in fine for about six hours.  After that, anything I eat or drink makes them pop out.

The uppers, however, are a different story.  I need a crowbar to yank them out.

Garison, I enjoyed reading your comment, thank you.  Do you get a strange after taste after removing your dentures?  Reading crowbar comment gave me a laugh today.  I've switched to Equate denture adhesive cream some days it sticks some days it doesn't. I wish my top dentures were secured like my bottom.  Bottom have those implants to keep them in place.  My top ones, not.  Colleen

Yes, I do get a strange aftertaste, but I've gotten used to it.  Sort of.  It probably is the zinc.  The tubes of Fixodent I have were free from the dentist; when I run out, I'm getting something without zinc or its own flavor.

Sadly, the upper dentures don't stick as well as before.  They were relined (to fit better, ironically), and the top of the uppers is now thinker and heavier, with several air gaps.  If I put them in at 8AM, they fall out right after lunch.  By 5PM all of the adhesive is gone, on both dentures.  I have an appointment on the 8th, and I'm going to ask them to scrape the reline material off the top.

Yep. I know how you feel. Soup, hot chocolate and it pops up. I guess I should be glad I can eat at all. One minute I can actually take a bite of pizza without cutting it up and the next day I,m scrapping cheese off and tearing it up piece by piece. It all depends on the crust. Every day is different.

Me too, I thought I was the only person having to cut up their pizza, toasted sandwich, even a piece of candy (try cutting that up impossible).  I'm afraid to go out to eat on a date or something.  I find myself not wanting to put dentures in, sometimes I have to return home to put them in, "ADD me forgot to". Then I have moments where I don't know where I placed top denture.  In my purse, jacket pocket, book shelf (probably sharing too much info, sorry).
